Assuming you mean a sealant for a Plaster of Paris (PoP) mold, the following have all been mentioned on this forum at one time or another. It all comes down to personal choice - what you feel works best for you: Devcon 2 Ton® epoxy™ - Wal-Mart Decorative Effects by Valspar™, Gloss Clear Protector Gloss, P/N 93789, 100% Acrylic Latex - Home Depot / Lowe's High temp engine paint or high heat enamel spray paint - Wal-Mart / Pep Boys / Auto Zone / etc. Envirotex or Envirotex Lite - not sure who has it Bar top epoxy finish (i.e. Kleer Kote table top epoxy) Clear Satin Polyurethane spray - Wal-Mart Fiberglass resin (aka polyester resin) "Seal-All", made by a company called Eclectic Products Inc. out of Pineville, LA. WD-40 - everywhere Spray-on stone sealer - Home Depot / Lowe's Johnson's paste wax - everywhere. Good luck.

Hi All. Well, I'm ready to submit my first time supplies order to LC. Wonder if I could get a little help? I fish strictly saltwater. I want to make 5" to 9" fluke and superfluke type baits, 9" Slug-Go type baits, and eventually when I start 2part molds some 5" to 7" swimbaits. Will I need to add softener to my LC #500 saltwater formula plastic? I want the strength of the saltwater formula, but I want those little fluke tails to move... I read somewhere on here for a Hot bubblegum, add to 8oz plastic 12 drops LC bubblegum 8 drops fluoro pink. Can I add pearl white to this? or is that not recommended or not needed? I also read that you can make chartreuse with fluoro yellow and lime green. Any suggested ratios? For pearl white, do I mix white coloring with pearl white powder, or just the powder by itself? Lastly - I feel stupid asking but what they heck - is there any benefit to adding salt to a saltwater bait? Thanks in advance for responses. Here's to a productive and prosperous New Year for all. Hey Everybody. :confused: Quetion - has anyone ever tried using a Mylar insert in their baits - like the Storms have in them? (It gives that holographic reflection of light from the inside of the bait.) I believe its called a holographic metallized polyester. If anyone has tried it with any success, I'd like to know your material source, if you'd care to disclose it. Thanks in advance. And Happy New Year to everyone! Rick

I read the recent post from Mattlures on this same subject of dropper bottles. Ref: http://www.tackleunderground.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=5852. Matt & CJ appear to be in the same area and have a local retailer available that has the bottles Matt uses. Having seen Matt's lures, I wouldn't mind following his recommendations on anything related to pouring soft plastics. Do the various manufacturers of liquid coloring all sell them in dropper bottles? Like the Elmer's glue bottles with a long taper and a cap? Sorry to ask such a basic question - I haven't ordered any supplies yet, and like jm, I am considering uniformity as well as ease of use... Thanks. Rick

Hi Guys. I am still reading everything I can on this site to learn as much as possible before I commit myself to this endeavor. From all I've read, I easily think this is going to be my newfound interest and I can't wait to get started. I have started to make a workspace for myself in the basement end of my garage under the house, and accumulating the necessary equipment. I have a few ideas about baits I'd like to try, and hope to be experimenting and trying to make a few plaster and Durham's molds soon. When I'm satisfied that I know what I'm doing, I'll try making molds from resin. I live in Connecticut and fish saltwater. My questions are about making saltwater baits for striped bass fishing... My personal best a few years ago was a 39" striper. Last year I had reasonable success with Storm Wild Eyes and Slug-Gos. This season, SuperFlukes are very popular bait right now. Anyway - : How much hardener do you think I should start off with to make saltwater swimbaits? Can plastic with hardener added be melted down and re-used? Has anyone bought, seen, or made a mold for an eel bait? Any and all advice is greatly appreciated. This is a great site with a great bunch of people, and I look forward to being able to contribute once I get going.

This is an awesome site, and I am scouring the archives to learn as much as I can before I purchase any materials to do any mold making or pouring. But you can be assured that I will be - and soon... I feel addicted already, and I haven't even started yet. I would like to make a small contribution. I understand that plastisol doesn't tolerate water and any scent must be oil based. With that in mind, I have found a site that may be of interest.
