    Salt

How does popcorn salt compare to the salt Del-mart sells, size wise?
  2. It also comes down to personal preference and where you fish. I like to use 1/4 cup salt and 1/8 cup softener per 1 cup of plastic.
  3. So you guys put the salt in before heating? I've been putting it in right after it goes thru the thick stage and starts to thin out. But i only use 25% salt to plastic mixture. Is there a big difference mixing it in before heating the plastic?
  4. Thanks for the reply. I think some times we make stuff harder than it actually is.
  5. I just got a 5 gallon bucket of Calhouns plastic from Del-Mart and had two questions about it. The first one i'm kinda embarrassed about. #1. Whats the easiest way to get the lid off? Does it come off the same as the one gallon buckets? #2. How do you guys transfer the plastic into smaller containers? Do you just dump it into the other containers, us a funnel, or do you use something to dip it out with? I don't mind it being time consuming, i just want the cleanest way. Thanks for any help.
  6. I fish sticks with a colored tail about 75% of the time. Mainly ones with a chartreuse tail. I don't have a preference between solid or laminates. But i want to try pouring some laminates as soon as i get more plastic, so maybe that will change.
  7. Lately i've been getting tons of small bubbles when i pour. They don't appear until the plastic gets close to pouring temp. They do eventually go away, but it takes quite a bit of reheating first.
  8. HaHa, sometimes it seems like it takes me that long just to get the right color. I also have the Del-Mart Stik kit. When i first started i also got the hollow tip. Like GaBassNerd said, you have to keep the reservoir topped off with plastic. Once i started to do that, the hollow tips have gone away.
  9. Those do look great. Alot better than my first pours.
  10. I also use a half mask. Like a fool i wear no safety glasses.
  11. I just started pouring. And after reading some of the posts here i went out and bought one last night from Home Depot. If you go to a store like HD, don't bother asking a worker where they are located, just look for them yourself. I asked two different workers, one in the paint section and one in the tool section, and they both said they don't carry them, only standard dust masks. They were in an odd spot, but they had a whole bay of just respirators and filters.
  12. I mixed the Devcon as equaly as i could. It feels hard, even right after pouring a bait.
  13. Last week i tried to make a mold of a sluggo useing Durhams Rock Hard Watter Putty. I baked the mold in the oven for a couple hours then let it sit for a couple days before coating it with Devcon 2Ton Epoxy. I coated it 3 times, waiting a day between each coat. Now for the problem. The baits i try to pour useing this mold come out real sticky. I've tried coating the mold with worm oil before pouring, and that didn't help. I don't think the plastic is the problem because after trying to pour the sluggo mold i will pour my Del-Mart stik mold with what ever plastic is left in my cup. And the stik mold will come out normal. Is there any thing i'm missing, or did wrong to the water putty mold. Thanks for any help.
  14. I was just waiting to long before topping them off. Thanks again every one for the help.
  15. A little update. After following the advice in this thread, i'm now able to pour a full length bait. But i am getting a hollow tip on most of them.
