  1. My first question is what is your base color and what color(s) are you trying to put over your base color? My next question is why not use powder paint as your 2nd, 3rd and 4th colors. Unless you are trying to make scaling, I apply up to 6 colors of powder paint onto my base color. No need to start another process by spray painting. Take a look at my avatar. Lot of colors there. JMO PS: I've read that people bake their jigs after they apply createx over powder paint. Don't know if that works or solves your problem.
  2. I have been pouring a lot of these for the saltwater guys that are fishing flounder. On the 3/8 oz ultra-minnow mold, the following two hooks are what I have been putting in the cavity. Both of these two hooks have very little to no mold mods: Mustad # 32786 or EC L786 60º hook..........3/0.......... both are (.054) strong hooks Black nickle fininsh. EC L635 O'Shaughnessy Duratin 90º hook.......................3/0............ (.051) Seaguard salt water finish . In speaking to lot of the guys that buy this jig from me, some had a preference for the saltwater hook and some liked the black nickle hook. Those that wanted the saltwater hook, liked the longer hook shank for short hook ups. If you want a 3/0 to try in the 3/8 oz cavity, I can send you 1 of each. PM me your full name and mailing address

    Mold Maker

I spoke to someone here about having some jig molds done. I can't remember who it was, but the molds were very reasonable about $60-$70 for a multi- cavity mold. If you are the person or know the person who does this, please PM me the information. I have a jig I would like to get a mold for and modified. Thanks in advance.................Cadman
  5. Welcome to TU. I have built my own, and have plans available for anyone who wants them. If you're interested, PM me your e-mail address, and I'll send them out to you.

    Arkie mold

If you are referring to the ARK-3-AFC Do-It mold, then I like a Mustad #32798, 3/0 round bend hook in the 1/4 oz cavity. I don't know what you mean by the weedguard questions, but I rarely use weedguards with my jigs. If I do I will use 5-7 light strand guards. I find full, medium or heavy weedguards hamper hooksets. Just my opinion.
  7. I assume you are referring to these. See the pic below. The two on the right with the centering pin. They are made and sold by Owner. However if you don't want to pay the exorbitant price, PM me.
  8. Greg, If you are looking to put in a screwlok in that head? That is possible with the mold Small jaw suggested. Below is a pic
  9. Which mold (model number) are you looking to modify? Like Jig Man stated, however make sure you measure twice and drill once,
  10. I have some questions for you on what you want to pour. PM sent.
  11. Use a round head mold, straight eye with EWG hooks.
  12. Joel, Pm me your phone number, and I have some info for you that may help you. We can discuss it. I can call you today.
  13. Joel, I called up a couple of my powder paint suppliers, and they say there is no info on this powder. What they think it is, is someone came up with a name of a powder paint to use for their product and pt TM after it, so you can not use the word pro stone. Most likely the powder paint is a custom blend, that was made for them so they can have exclusivity to the name. She said it is probably no better than any other high quality exterior based powder paint.
  14. Joel, I guess my first question, is why does it have to be that brand. I have used over 30 different brands of powder paint, and they all work well and do their job. Some powder paints are easier to use and apply while others I wold never use (ie Harbour Freight). If it is a color you're looking for, get the RAL number, and find a good company like Dupont, Sherwin Williams, give them the RAL number and get a quality powder like TGIC. Now as far as weedguards, I only know of two companies that sell anddistribute weedguards. fishingskirts.com which has the fused end which comes in med and heavy and Kayser Lure out of Ursa, IL. Kayser Lure has the fuzzy ende weedguards, which come in light, medium and heavy.

Like smalljaw mentioned, TJ's tackle sells the cups, and I know they work. This guy on e-bay that you are considering. I would ask him if you can return it and get your money back if it doesn't work. I use Tyvek paper, that I get from the Postal envelopes. Works great for me. There are a lot of items you can use that doesn't cost anything but your time to make.
  17. Hope it works out for you. Let us know how it goes.
  18. I originally had gray primer, then I found some white etching primer, I believe it was Rust-Oleum. I don't know if they make white any more, as I haven't used it in awhile.

    Clear Coat

For durability, I have always and still use D2T. It is a tediously slow process, but the durability is second to none. Now there are a few other two part epoxies that I heard others use which I suppose are good, maybe they will chime in. I also use E-tex, which is super clear, but is more flexible than D2T and not as hard as D2T. I guess you have to look at what you want out of it. If it is for personal use, then it doesn't matter. If it's for customers and you want a quality product then you have to look at those options. I tell all of my customers, that D2T will make white jigs a bit amber in color, and most of them don't seem to care, they say "I'll lose them before I worry about that". I never had any returns on any jigs, that someone just didn't like. Maybe someone here has the ultimate answer and we can all learn.
  20. Cost varies from state to state and location. Years ago I had some parts gold plated at work. If you're not paying for it then it doesn't matter, However, good gold plating is expensive, and it's done in lot charges. So if you have 10 blades or 2,000, then the cost might be the same . I found that there is always a prep fee up to a certain amount of pieces, then you pay for the gold and the time it takes to do the process. I don't have any numbers for you however, look around you may find someone cheaper that will do it in a neighboring state that may be cheaper even with shipping.
  21. I sell a lot of jigs and have a request on occasion for rattles. I also am looking for a production run of jigs with rattles. Some guys swear by them so don't care. I am a die hard jig fisherman, and I have tried them both ways, and to me I don't see a difference. It could be a confidence thing. However, I believe finding fish and presentation is a more contributing factor to getting a bite than adding rattles. Now if the jig rattles rattled like a rattle trap, then I would use them, but all the rattles I've heard have a very subdued sound. I know sound carries in water, but I just don't use them personally. However if it works for you then by all means use them.
  22. That is exactly what I am trying to match an Eakin style jig and yes they are no longer made. You have an e-mail from me.

    Kayser Lure

I never had anything bad to say about Kayser Lure. I never received any of their weedguards with the burr, however they did have the fuzzy fused end. Throughout all the years I did business with them, they always had a top quality product.
  25. I have a couple of each of the #32893 hooks in 2/0, 3/0 and 4/0. It looks like these have been discontinued. I see Cap't Hooks looks like they have 4/0, however I will find out tomorrow. By any chance, does anyone have any of these they would like to sell that they do not use? I am looking for all 3 sizes, and looking for 100+ hooks. If you have any to sell please send me a PM. If you know other sources, please post it here. Thanks in advance.
