  1. I post in the hard bait forum but thought you guys could answer this one. I have a D.L. Whammie spinner bait. It looks like an old Erie Derie and is still stapled in the card. All I know is it is atleast over 30 years old. I was wanting a direction as to its history or if it is of value to a collector. A search on the web pulls nothing. Thanks for any help.
  2. I achieved the middle pic this weekend by using Kraylon clear to tack down some flake. I would do that so I can hand place the flake before a clear coat. The lure coat reacted with it and caused exactly what you have shown. Eventhough, yours could also be flexing of a bait under a clear coat to cause cracking, since the bait is 13" long. I cant really tell from the pic if it is wrinkling like mine or cracking. It looks like a wrinkle though to me.
  3. Wait! Don't do it! It will only catch the fish that are swimming backwards.
  4. I make a motion for the thread of the "high council" to adjourn.
  5. As long as you flash dry them with the hairdryer first you're fine.
  6. Husky, since you voted for Tigger twice in the first post you can put Jason there. BTW what is the high council? Did I miss something?
  7. Has college changed or what? The smell of epoxy was the last thing we were worried about comming from a dorm room.
  8. it sounds like a small inperfection on the side of the divebill. If it digs harder to the left side you might try to file off a very minute portion to straighten it. Its hard to tell from text what it is doing but digging to one side sounds like more area to catch water (ie an un noticed epoxy edge on the dive bill)
  9. Sorry to hear about that Tony. It's 70's here in Ms. the only ice we have is keeping the beer cold. Hows the metro of New Miami going?
  10. "z axis represents a vertical line from bottom to top." Vodkaman where would the Z axis line be on a typ. crankbait? The line tie or the weight? What about double weight insertion points?
  11. Thanks for making us feel old. I actually had to think about that one for a little while to realize he was talking about math CLASS. BTW quit leaving stuff laying around in your mom's kitchen.
  12. Lineman, you need to really do a search on clear coats. That dead horse has been kicked really hard. You can use a solvant base on acrylic paint if you flash dry the paint with a dryer. You need a drying wheel for your clear coat. It is a rotisserie motor that keeps your baits rotating and leveling out the the clear. That horse also has been through hell lately and can be found in the search engine.
  13. If you have a roofing supply company close you can buy lead sheets in 5 lb rolls. I recall them being cheaper than trying to buy lead from a specialty shop. It cuts with scissors, it is used for pipe flashing on a asphalt roof. Lowes might have it if you go to the roofing section and ask for lead flashing. Or go on top of a building with a built up roof and remove their pipe flashing, when their roof leaks tell me and I will send a crew. Yes, I run a roofing company.
  14. NOT a time and place for hooks! I flinched just reading that.

    little craw

When the pic is in thumbnail view it looks like something climbing off of a burrito. Great idea on the antennea also. I will use that on trailors.
  16. Herring bone, black with a white bone pattern. Clown pattern, white with a red front 1/3 rd. Research some antique lures. They were painted without an airbrush. BTW to blend the colors do it wet, before the paint dries. You can also dip a little water on the brush to help blending.
  17. Vodkaman, I don't really think he was referring to you. But please don't sprain the elbow on your casting arm patting yourself on the back, it is still early in the fishing season. I have lurked here for 3-4 years and have never posted a pic. and by no means do I think he was referring to me either as much as I would like to. But I'm sure that there are mfg. designers lurking here to steal info. There are a few items that I don't offer either. It's like the endless thread that was started before the server went down stated. You learn more when given the basics and you apply and adjust from there. I have and could tell the board every measurement and weight and location of my best lure down to the 10th of a gram. From there you could make a pretty unique crankbait, but the user will then have learned nothing. It would be like tracing a piece of art, you would have a copy of a pretty picture but still won't know how to draw.
  18. Rest in Pease Mr. McGuire he past on while bending 19 ga. wire. We were sure he was dead after he installed the lead, because it anchored his balsa to the bottom of his salsa. I would stop and read that in the graveyard.
  19. signs of TU addiction: 1) bringing blanks to work in place of your lunch and sanding them under your desk while reading TU. 2) looking like you are working and taking notes while coloring new color combinations on your note pad. 3) go to Wal Mart and forget milk but buy all the Devcon. 4) name your kid Devcon 5) while with your wife, be thinking about a new ballast location. 6) use your wedding picture frame to place a pic of your new topwater.
  20. This thread is killing me. It has to be a regional thing because what I grew up knowing what a tally wacker is would not be anything I want to fish with. It must be a California or Mass. bait only to be found in a liberal's tacklebox.
  21. well have your grandson show you how to post that bluegill pattern in your avatar in the photo section. That diserves a bigger look. Nice pattern.
  22. Pikeman it was predatek.com
  23. Go to Wal Mart and in the fishing section get a minnow dip net. It is already curved to the shape of the back of the lure so placing it is easy. Its the perfect size and is Ninety cents and I have used mine since last spring.
  24. The closer the line tie is to the nose of the bait the deeper it will go with less action. The further out from the nose the more action but shallower. That's the formula I'm familer with.
