  1. Musky baits are much bigger, they can go faster without blowouts, and the big lips match the body size, most musky guys troll 3-7mph at least 3mph usually, so combine the size and speed = depth, and obviously the angle of lip, I made a few that were bumping bottom in 50fow going 4mph. Line diameter plays a role to, I was using 60lb braid. You would rarely ever catch a musky below 25' anyway but I just don't let out as much line to get it at 25'.
  2. Here are a few baits I made to keep my mind occupied until the spring musky season (only 4 months away for me). I have major cabin fever.

  6. How about printing a picture of Hussien like you do with the fish and putting him on each side of the bait with a Dennis Rodman firetiger hair due, and really let the muskies eat him, lol.
  7. Do you have a Saddam Hussein in natural perch ?(jk) LOL on the terrorist lures, good stuff.
  8. Hey Woodie, how do you like the Nu-Lustre ? I seen some here in Canada and was thinking of trying it out. What do you think compared to the others, envro, devcon ect..?
  9. No worries Jason I understood what you were saying. I'm sure some other guys on here have thought about it before to, so I was just trying to see what you would do. I would never care if someone coppied a design for personal use and friends, it would just suck if someone ran with your idea and put you out of buisiness. Thanks for the tips guys, I guess I need to catch some fish now.lol..
  10. I didn't mean to offend anyone with that statment, because YES I have modified many other designs as well. I would love to know the origional designers of all the classics, crankbaits, spinners, jerks ect...because they truly do deserve the credit, could you imagine those guys copywrited back in the day ? I personally don't think there are any 100 % origional lures left to be made, but you never know. Maybe it's nothing anyway I have yet to give it a good go and it's ice here in Canada finally, so I'll catch a few fish in the spring first before I do anything. By the way I respect all the custom builders on this site because I've learned alot from you, I was mostly talking about big companies getting ideas from us little guys and mass producing plastic junk.
  11. Oooooooooooooouch ! That musta hurt, hope it's nothin to serious. I imagine he would have been let in the emergancy if it went through his hand.
  12. I have an idea for an origional lure and have buit a proto type that works good. It's just a combination of old styles but I've never seen it done before. I'm not talking about different sizes, shapes , colors ect... it actually has different action, style. Do you just put it out, and hope no one copies your idea/design ? Or is it worth copywriting ect....? Or do you keep it for personal use and out fish everyone ? lol.. First of all I'm not looking to get rich or even close to it, but it would be nice to get credit for the design, before a hundred other guys coppy your stuff and just add thier little modifications ect... P.S. I'm to broke to do anything anyway.
  13. Did they just upgrade the site after that last post on how slow it was ? I read that other post yesterday and when I logged on today it went from being the slowest to one of the fastest sites. Thanks for speeding it up for us if you did. :-D
  14. I just realized your probably talking about through wire construction, forget my last post if that's the case, lol.
  15. I'm new to building, but I don't put the hook hangers on until after painting just before clear coating and I don't mind getting clear on the hangers just seals the holes better.
  16. So does anyone know why the colors run when you apply a 2 part epoxy ? Or do they ? Is it only waterbase that runs or lacquer ? Maybe if you did spray a thin layer of that taxidermy clear coat first and than apply the epoxy ? Could be a nice looking result. I'm a rookie at building and painting, so I guess I'll do some trial and error attempts. Thanks for the replies.
  17. I was thinking of getting a bunch of taxidermy paints from VanDykes, they are cheaper than Createx and are already blended for realistic colors, you can get water or lacquer. What do you guys think ? How do they spray ? are they better that createx etc...? I would like to find some paints that spray at 20-30 psi without thinning, but I definitely like the realistic colors available.
  18. That's true Jed, I guess the cost was based on supply and demand, they couldn't make them fast enough. I was reading on one of the Muskie sites that the original owner just sold the weagle wrights to another supplier, maybe the cost will go down if they start producing larger quantities. I'm sure if you sold as many of your top-waters as the weagle and everyone was using them the results would be close, but I would spend my money on yours, better quality, paint job, shape etc... IMO. Just my 2c.
  19. They are a top-water walk the dog Muskie fishing lure, I will never buy one they are way over priced IMO, I think most guys on this site could make one easier than any other bait. Not sure but think they are just a simple lathe turned hardwood lure and are not even weighted. 2 step lure turn and paint. They have caught a ton of fish though, but maybe that's because so many people use them, not sure why. Someone please correct me if I'm way off on this one.
  20. Brett, how big are the bodies and lips on the lures you make ? I thought the 2-78" by 3-7/8" would be considered one of the largest lips ? I haven't payed for the lexan sheets yet so I think your advice on the 1/4" sounds like a good idea. I mostly fish Georgian Bay and it's really rocky here as well. I've only seen pictures of your cranks, they look sweet. Thanks for the advice guys.
  21. I am going to try and make some large shad style crankbaits around a 11" body and the lip will be 3/16" lexan by 2-7/8" wide and 3-7/8" long. I was wondering how many screws you would use to hold it in ? and if you pre drill holes for the screws when your pre drilling the screw eye holes etc..? or how would you do this ? Thanks.
  22. Nice lure Muskiefool, that little blade underneath resembles one of those fish clinging on a whale for a ride. nice idea. Is this another 20" size ? Have you caught anything on it yet ?
  23. Thanks for the advice guys. I ended up getting a Paasche VLS pro kit with a 60psi compressor, haven't got to use it yet but sounds like a trusted brush from others I've talked to. Thanks, John.
