  1. Welcome! I've been at it now for over a year and I absolutely love it!; especially in the winter months. The wife is on me for stinking up the house with garlic once in a while., but she also caught her first 5 1/2 lber. on one of those baits... ask any questions you have., I did... these guys are great! - Shawn

    Tube Jigs

Hi., Just read this thread.... I can give you my opinion., it won't work. The dipping process wouldn't allow for the detail of your carving to remain.... you may get the "general" shape., but that's about it. Shawn
  3. Hi guys., Inquiring for a friend of mine who is looking to purchase rubber skirt material. He is specifically looking for "square" rubber... from what I'm told., no-one makes it anymore? It's the shape of a single strand if you look at it's end... any help? Thoughts? - Shawn
  4. That's interesting... I'll have to order some originals to check them out. I have a little test tank and the one's I poured kinda wave as they fall. Also, when twiched off the bottom., the claws stay in the up position for about 4-5 second... kind of like that. Thanks so much for the info. Shawn
  5. I have no idea about the patent issue... I know that the mold I'm using is NOT a replica.... the PACA brand has antennas and a design on the claws. I was just curious as to how hard the bait itself is as the ones I poured are very soft (on purpose) but I'm thinking that may have an affect on the action (good or bad) not sure yet. Shawn
  6. I just poured these today! They look great but I haven't fished them yet. Was going to use them as a trailer for a jig but I see that the original calls for use as a trailer or on a ball head jig. Your thoughts? Also, I poured them pretty soft... are they soft or do the appentitures fall to the sides if you hold the body vertically? Shawn

    Scent

Interesting to hear all the opinions on scent. My personal experience is that garlic is by far the strongest and longest lasting. I have noticed that all scents do cook out at some point. I notice that as the pour lengthens., the scent is still present but not as strong as on the first bait... add a little more 1/2 way through is my thought. Shawn
  8. Well said Jeff..... I totally agree., no one pours the same. I, for instance, pour for myself only. Because I don't sell to the general public... I pour all my baits VERY soft so they collapse easier when I'm setting the hook. It's just my preference. I catch more than 1 fish on a few baits but I pour my flukes so soft, I catch one fish per bait. Makes a difference in tournaments to me so I accept it. You'll develop your own style... I just starting dipping tubes (they look great but it takes me 2 1/2 hours - start to finish - to dip about 30 of them!!!) Imagine me selling these for a profit? Here's the ad: 10 pack of super soft tube baits.... $20 per pack! LOL It's an incredibly rewarding feeling catching fish on your own stuff though... enjoy it! These guys are good! Ask away... they helped me sooooo much this past year. - Shawn
  9. Typed that too fast sorry for the mispellings... Shawn
  10. Interesting thread..... question for you guys. I know someone mentioned they don't use salt in beavers and baits they want to "stand up"; everyone feel that way? Looking for a general "opinion" on this as I do use salt in everything I pour., just a lot less in other than stick baits... 2-3 tablespoons per 8 ounces for beavers, worms, etc. My thought is the stand up jig heads force the bait upright anyway... everyone's thoughts? PS This site rocks... I learn something new every time. Shawn
  11. Tubeman, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone first!!!! I absolutely positively agree with you. I pour all kinds of stuff and tubes are BY FAR the most difficult and time consuming. I'm a quick study (usually) and I have to say that the tubes I'm dipping are just coming out great BUT, to sell them..... no way. Personal reward is the only thing that keeps ya dipping these babies. LOL Anyway.. thought I'd throw in my opinion and give you a little support there. Have a great one everybody!!!! Shawn
  12. I like the concept... my thought is I would get rid of the little "nipple" behind the twist on screw and position the eye from off the bottom of the jig... othwerwise., when that lands on stone., you may get some weakening of the line. Just my thoughts

    Salt

Ryan, I agree, it does work well... not a whole bunch of talk about it on here which I was surprised about. The shipping is high (I know that's not Del's fault) but it's tough paying 2 - 3 times the cost of an item just to ship it. I have what I feel is a very good formula (which includes Del's ultra fine)for sticks so I hate to stop using it but going to have to because of the shipping cost. Thanks for the input..... much appreciated. - Shawn
