  1. I have sent your question to Craig Kennedy at Createx.

    Longear Sunfish- need help

The solution is to reposition your stencil a few times while spraying the patterns. It will give the effect you are looking for if the spots overlap each other randomly.
  3. Go with the Iwata and never look back. Reliable and precision made plus the best customer service in the business. What else can you ask for?
  4. Mark, Any of the Wicked Colors/Autoborne paints can be made transparent by mixing with Auto Air transparent base and then reducing with 4011. Only over reducing with the 4011 isn't optimal as the transparent base has the paint binder in it and will give far better adhesion.
  5. Here's a link to the Autoborne colors choices http://www.autoaircolors.com/Auto-Borne_techsheet.pdf
  6. Were you using Featherlite Jed? If not a denser, less buoyant material wouldn't work as well for sure. As you taught me, it's all about ballast and general shape/thickness to make a glider work.
  7. It should still be ok but the clear coat may not chemically bond with the regular Createx as well as it does with the Wicked and auto Borne paints. I'll see if I can get you a sample pack of those paints to try out. I'm sure that you'll make the switch after using them along with the 4011 reducer. Please email me at muskysnax@gmail.com and I'll see what I can do for you.
  8. First be sure to clean the surface with a grease and wax remover and then lightly scuff the surfaces to be painted with a scotch brite or similar pad. This will provide the mechanical bond you require. Your base coat should be Auto Air sealer white or dark depending on the color scheme. Full coverage should take three light coats, no less or it will be too thick. You don't need to heat set Auto Air but it will dry faster if you do. You should use the new Wicked Colors or Auto Borne paints from Createx as they are formulated for that purpose. Actually I highly recommend them anyway as they atomize extremely well due to the higher solvent content and especially when reduced with their 4011 reducer. To clear coat apply a light tack coat, wait the appropriate flash time and then apply another two medium wet coats allowing sufficient flash time in between.
  9. I did also cast it in another spot where the current was almost non existent but the lighting was bad for filming. The action was exactly the same. It also worked the same way going across the current which surprised me. You taught me well Jed.

Great job Mark! You need to make a stencil for the spots though. I used to do each one individually with the airbrush till I realized you could do it in one quick pass with a stencil! lol
  11. Just threw together a little video showing the action of the Featherlite resin jerkbait. As you will see it works pretty much the same as the ones made of wood. I know several of you were wondering what if any change in action there would be using Featherlite. Check it out... YouTube - 2009 Musky Snax Plastix Jerkbait Action

I always love seeing anything you've made Jed. Great looking bait!
  13. I actually have designed and sold a bait called the SideSwipe which also lies on its side and looks like a dying baitfish. Similar concept but different executions.
  14. Hi there! I wrote several how-to articles for Iwata on airbrushing lures and also one on skulls. Here's a link to the fishing lure articles: IWATA-MEDEA • Resources • How to Articles • Fishing Lures

    New Featherlite Perch Swimbait

The Wicked Colors and Auto Borne are the same paint Mark. They are just labeled differently to avoid confusion with the different markets. It works as well on t-shirts as it does in automotive applications!!! It's the finest water based/borne paint I've ever tried.
  17. Love the colors! Great job dude!

    New Featherlite Perch Swimbait

My pleasure Tim. I wouldn't endorse anything I don't think is the best.
  19. Here's a look at my first painted up Perch Swimbait for 2009. Still is missing one hook hanger and epoxy in the photo. Thanks to Auto Air Colors for the outstanding high quality paints. This was done using their new line of Auto Borne paints which atomize extremely well and have minimal tip dry.

    My new 9" Glider

With the featherlite being buoyant already it has similar properties to the wood i've used. It's less dense than oak and the oak gliders worked well. As long as the ballast and shape is the same they will be fine.

    My new 9" Glider

This is the wooden original which will be made into a mold for my plastic models. Hope ya dig it! I figured out a better way to paint my walleye patterns too.
