  1. I have a hi-line HP-BH with that adjustment and it makes it as controlable as my custom micron believe it or not. I love it. Awesome control with this feature. I think it is worth it. Rod
  2. Caught this one in the U.P. last spring, 22" long weighed over 6.5 lbs. On one of my own cedar cranks.... http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g225/rjbass/IMG_1464.jpg

    lure holders

I use hemostats, 6" with the vinyl handles. Much easier IMO than the xacto handles, operate with one hand, three locking positions and you can hang your baits using the holes in the handle. I make alot of Musky baits and xacto handle will not hold those. I got mine on ebay, 25 for $15. Rod
  6. Great thread, great to see all the input from the new guys as well as the old. I am 58 years old and started in this crazy hobby years ago. As a kid I tied flies and made spinners and really enjoyed it. When I first began making wooden baits there was no internet, or anyplace for that matter to learn how to do this so I did alot of experimenting, copying and reading on my own, trial and error. Since I became a member here a couple of years ago I have learned more in that short period of time than I did in all the years previous. This is a great site and try and contribute as much as I can. I really appreciate all I have learned here and want to thank all that have helped me out. There is some awesome talent here, amazing actually. I am a Musky fisherman 1st, but I do love the early smallmouth season and dabble with walleye. I do have a small side business with my son called "Iva Biggen Bait Company" that we started a few years ago and it has been fun. Not trying to get rich, just keeping it fun. We build Musky, bass and walleye baits, several hundred each year and sell them locally and on the internet. Rod
  7. I have always liked your stuff Nathan, great job. Rod

    hello

Hello, Welcome to the insanity. Lots of great stuff here as well as great guys. So you are a striper fisherman? I see some striper stuff on another site posted by Black Talon, great lures.... Rod
  9. Woodie, How would you compare the New Lustre 55 to Etex or Devcon??? That is probably the only top coat I haven't tried. Rod
  10. Great link......thanks! Rod
  11. Mags, I installed a Bull Dawg natural gas heater two winters ago in my shop/garage. I did the gas myself from the house. It wasn't that hard, and cheap. I tried the electric route and found everything that was afordable not sufficient heat, so I asked a few questions and read a little and did it. I think you will be sorry if you use electric but that is just my opionion. I can heat the whole shop plus the garage with this and for pennies. Just a thought. Rod
  12. Mark, Try it here... http://www.dickblick.com/zz269/74/ Rod
  13. If you use super lube, paint will not stick to the needle, the trigger will not stick and your tip will clog less. I use it after each session when cleaning my brushes. Rod
  14. Here is one, I don't see any red or yellow stripes, anyway I guess it depends on if you want natural or not. Rod
  15. I have a side feed Iwata Micron SB. It is a gravity feed brush. The idea is it will let you see over the top of your work with the paint cup to the side instead of looking over the top paint cup. You can use the paint cup on either side of the brush. It is an awesome brush, pricey but worth it. Rod
  16. Pretty straight forward... White bottom, foil with scale pattern sides, blue/black top with six black spots on each side....fins optional. Rod
  17. Benton B, I still use Devcon 2T exclusively also. I have tried every imaginable top coat out there and nothing seems to hold up to big fish and teeth like Devcon including Dick Nite's. Dick Nite's is thin and looks good and would be great for bass or similar type fish, but when it comes to teeth it will not hold up, even with several coats. Trust me I have tried it first hand with Musky and Pike and they bite right through it. Rod

    Thanksgiving

We really do have a lot to be thankful for even though we forget once and a while. Happy Thanksgiving! Rod
  19. Charles, All of the woods mentioned would be great for those bass, but I would really be skeptical about basswood. I am going only from my experience building Musky lures and it does not hold up like cedar, poplar or similar woods. It also is like an expanding sponge and when any and I mean any water gets to the wood from a puncture, it will expand and split the top coat. Cedar and poplar I know won't do that. Rod
  20. BJ, You said you wanted to share???? What did you dip the baits in??? Rod

    Perch trolling bait

This is a new Perch, 8" 2 3/8oz trolling bait made from pine. It has awesome action after I finally got it weighted properly. Watch out Musky!

  23. Now that's what I call a tutorial.....great job! Rod
  24. Hello, yes, I have used Flex Coat. It works ok, is more flexible than Devcon, but if you are fishing Musky or Pike it will not stand up to sharp teeth. It is also a pain in the butt to mix compared to Devcon. Try it and see what you think. Rod
