Thank you, Nathan.... I won't be sealing as I just paint plastic blanks. I would like to dip with the white base coat, dry and paint. I probably could just spray them in less time anyways. Just always trying to find an easier more efficient way!
-
Mike, I have to disagree here.....If it was Delw, there wouldn't be any on the shelves to pull and the customer would have no worries because they would still be waiting for their molds......and have fun trying to get your money back for the product you haven't received!

I've heard of some people dipping their blanks for the base coat a while back. I read (I think here on TU)there were pros and cons to this, but there really wasn't enough information. I was thinking about trying this and would appreciate some feedback if anyone has experience with this. thank you Richard

You've been making baits for over 30 years and a member of this site for almost 2 years. I don't see where you are sharing anything with anybody. I doesn't matter if the bait works or not. There is valuable information in both success and failures. It has nothing to do with skill level but the learning process of a common interest. Skill level and/or experience has nothing to do with it. It's about sharing information on what you have done.

27 posts since April of 2011? You got chutzpah telling people what this site is about and what to do!

When i first starting pouring soft plastics, I read every single post in every thread. I also used the search feature quite a bit because i have a short memory. Jim O'Conner (Ghostbaits) sent me a frog to try out before I spent the money for the mold. He took me under his wing and helped me get started by answering all the questions I was to embarrassed to ask on the forum. Thanks, Jim as I still have my largest frog fish to date and 2nd PB on one that you sent me! When I found out I had to stop pouring, I read every thread and every post in the wire baits section and used the search feature for the same above reason. Ted Chodor (cadman) took me under his wing and answered all the same type of questions I was too embarrassed to ask on the forum! He sent me jigs to look at and different types of skirts to try out as well as teaching me the "tap" method. He answered every question in such detail, it totally blew me away! Thanks, Ted! When I decided to try my hand at painting, I did the dame thing and read every post of every thread in the hard baits section. i did ask some questions about alternate methods to using an airbrush because i wasn't sure if I'd be able to use one because of having Emphysema. I got some good answers to compressor questions that have been beat to death, a great deal on paints from Pizz and again was taken under the wing by another master of his art Dean Mclain and answered all of the questions i was to embarrassed to ask once again......like why water would shoot out of my airbrush but not paint? I try and give back when i can....I know I am forgetting allot of people who are no longer active or as active for different reasons, but I owe allot to Bojon for his horizontal dipping video, Alsworms, Crawchuck and his tutorials and the list goes on my my memory doesn't. i won't thank anybody who is still active........heck I'll that every body....that covers my butt! I try and pass on what I've learned and I alo suggest using the search feature. I try and say it in a way that I don't come off like and a....hole. Sometime I can and sometimes i can't. Too sum it up , i think it was best said by Vodkaman.... "Not essential, but I do wish people would say thank you more. There have been times when I have put many hours into an answer and not even received acknowledgement that the information was even received, let alone appreciated". A simple thank you and/or acknowledgement really does go along way and I believe many masters of this trade have left because of this very reason. JMO That's my rant and I'm sticking to it!

If you want the 'real" thing then you need to look for discounted colors or sales and repaint them. Most vendors have a mixed bag of quality blanks. If you don't want to play hit or miss, the unpaintedlures.com has 100% quality.

Thank you, Garthsnooks! Where in Florida do you live? Richard

I was wrong..........it is possible to hijack your own thread. I know I'll hear about this one!

Good for you, Jason. I wish you and yours the best of luck!

I used the USPS priority mail envelopes. They say DuPont tm Tyvek on them.

Very clever and real nice work! BPS is probably making them as we speak!

I have to say that the HF 1/5 hp compressor is pretty darn quiet. It can be used inside the house in a room next to a sleeping baby.. It isn't silent, but queit enogh that I can talk to someone on the speakerphone while using it and they would not be able to tell. It cuts off at 58 psi and top working pressure is about 30psi. The only Wreatex Paint that I have trouble shooting unthinned with a .3 or .35 nozzle is createx White Pearl. For that I just pull the needle back a little bit. I paint early and I cannot use a noisy compressor to fill a tank. I work on a dozen baits at a time every day of the week. The key to making these cheaper compressors last is to shut them off in between spraying. I burnt out a few by not shutting it off. After I've gotten into the habit of shutting it off, I've probably painted 1,000 baits with this one compressor. I have one in the box ready to go if this dies. I like it that much. It's something like $80-90 and comes with a crappy airbrush which can be used for base coating.

Harbor freights has a 1/5 hp compressor that is very quiet and does the job. It come with a water trap. you can use the bottom screw as a regulator. It comes with a cheap airbrush as well They also have 1/8hp but with a regulator but I didn't care for the coil typ hose. I could see my airbrush crashing to the floor. http://www.harborfreight.com/air-tools.html?CatPath=All%2BProducts%252F%252F%252F%252FAir%2BTools%2F%2F%2F%2FAir+Compressors&RequestData=CA_CategoryExpand

I know that wording can be very misleading. None of any of the blanks sold by anyone in the states are manufactured in Japan. I'm saying this and he happens to be a friend of mine. Sorry to say that I find it BS to mislead people like that. Some of these blanks you can easily find yourself by doing a little searching. Those are the crappy ones. I have spent countless hours trying to locate the factories that produce the high end baits like Bryan at Bustin and Unpainted carry to no avail. yet. I paint and sell quite a few baits and would not mind at all paying 1/2 of what I'm paying now. Allot of people tried to get into the blank selling game on e-bay. There are 5 major players in the blank business now but there is only one that carries only the high end stuff exclusively. If it cost under $1.50 each......save your money!

The color blocks for candlemaking will work as does pastels and crayons.
-
I see the company you are talking about is www.unpaintedlures.com I can tell you that all of their blanks are the best quality you will find. Maybe something happened in transit. I buy from them all the time and have not had a single bad blank. Give them a call.
-
You can also use Parma Masking from the hobby shops
-
I've never heard of them. Do you have a link. I have bought many blanks and never received any that had bills come the way you describe ot the line ties for that matter. All blanks are not created equal. There are knockoffs of knockoffs of knockoffs. Pm me if you like
-
You can usually pop them off with a hobby knife

I wish the best for Bojon.....great guy. For those pouring if you don't have an adequate ventilation system you are committing suicide. Nosebleeds, congestion and migraines are NOT a coincidence. I have Emphysema with 27% total lung function. I fished this weekend for the first time in 16 months because I don't have the energy to hook up the boat and go out by myself until I get a transplant. Was it caused by pouring for several years...........doubtful since I smoked for 40 and polished jewelry for 13. Did it aggravate it...................without a doubt! If you can smell it, then you're breathing it. Am I trying to scare you?..................damn straight, I am! Take it for what it's worth but I can't carry my kids for more than 100 feet.

Another way to do it is to shoot your black through a comb without any netting. Then, throw the net over and shoot over the same comb lines in andother color. It might be hard to tell from this pic but that's how this one was done. This was an older thread of a bait by 6 sense. Mike on your picture, though it appears that the black is over the silver. That is why i think it was done with a toothpick probably running it through the grooves in the blank's scale pattern.
