    Few Questions

Thank you boys Sounds like size 6 ,3x should cover most of what i want maybe with some 5 & 7 on the back burner. If anyone has tryed the oval i,d like to hear your thoughts Lure Making.com sells them but don,t give the lb rating and Hagens don,t show them in theyre catalog. It would be nice to use owner rings but the price OUCH.Thanks for clearing up the alcohol ques bob thought i had it right but wasn,t sure. Take care Jim PS: HOPPY HOLLOWWEEN

    Few Questions

1 The guys had a few splits rings fail last week while musky fishing so it got me thinking i should pay more attention to what i,m using. Will be ordering in bulk so want to get it right the first time.On average these will be used on 8 to 10" wood baits, different styles, jerk stick swim, using 4/0 or 5/0 hooks and 1/8 SS cotter pins hunting for 45"+ demons of the deep. I,m thinking 3x round or oval size 6 any ideas. 2 Line ties in lip is this to help the lure go deeper 3 denatured alcohol is this the same as methyol hydrate. Thanks Jim
  5. Thanks for clearing that up boys i couldn,t get my head around that last nite for nothing no way no how.If your speed was to fast you should be able to use a variable speed control used for ceiling fans they look like a dimmer switch. i,m not positive but don,t think it would hurt the motor.Anyone try that and did it work.
  6. Not the best pic but you should get the idea
  7. I,d like a second opinion on "quote" ( the greater the turning speed at the outer edges) please. 1+1 = 2 or is it 11?? i,m really confused now did i do that to myself or did mark do it to me. Here it is 1am and i gotta go find a stop watch go out in the garage and check the speed of my dryer. Thanks Mark LOL
  8. I was going to use springs but found 14 or 12 gauge single stranded wire worked well .you can cut it different lenghts for differ size lures. I just posted it on homebrew tools ,think it shows what i,m talking about. If not will post a pic on here for you. Jim
  9. First Thanks for the compliments guys. Well gave it a test run tonite and got a few bugs to iron out, first it needs an on/off switch it,s a little trickie trying to unplug the thing while holding a freshly epoxyed lure also i have to put some smaller size hooks on the center disc the ones i used wouldn,t fit thru the line tie eyelets on some of the smaller repaints i did, had to do some quick thinking on that one again while holding a wet lure. Not sure if my thinking is in the box or out but having fun anyway lol. Take Care Jim
  10. Well i finally build one after being on this site since 2004 and knowing about them got peed off enough to put it together.Total cost 0.00 dollars well that is if you don,t include the bandsaw and table saw lol. The dryer has about 20" between the two outside discs and the discs are adjustable so it should cover any lure i,ll be building.Had to use a rotesserie motor which i was trying to avoid because of the noise, other than that i,m happy with it.The lures hang off a cup hook on one side and copper wire on the other seems to work ok . Enjoy Jimbo
  11. Ran across this site today looking for something else.Home Page - Bare-Metal Foil Co.. They have decal paper, some foil that looks interesting and molding materials. They also explain how to use the products they sell. Might help Jim
  12. Dramone did you print those your self or order them off the net i,ve been looking into the same thing but am not sure how well a inkjet printer would work.I,ve read an alps printer worked well but are no longer available. If you did do them yourself what type of printer did you use and are you happy with the results. Cadman do a search on one of the rod building sites i,ve found info there on this subject both doing your own and ordering them custom made. Decal Connection.Inc was one of the places.Google waterslide decals for the blank sheets chemicals and how-to Jimbo
  13. Cadman PM sent, also i thru a pic of a few nail polished jigs in the gallery for the heck of it. Pick,m apart boys, pick,m apart.

    First tied Jigs

Poured these a month ago got tired looking at the naked jigs so got out some nail polish tying material and this is what i ended up with. 1/4 oz with 1/0 hooks eagle claw i think.
  15. First to ewg i just want to say i,m not trying to steal your thread here just had similar questions. Cadman i,ll certainly take you up on your offer with your tutorial, i do plan on using powder in the near future so that would be a hugh help.I,ve been to TJ,s site and viewed the video,s a few times i would be inclined to order from them as a first choice as long as shipping wasn,t a killer.(prices on product are good). Ok bottom line is i,m not wasting my time with the nail polish for the time being but for the long haul would switch to powder. Thanks everyone. Jimbo
  16. I noticed bassdeucer mentioned nail polish Well i,ve been painting and clear coating some jigs with the stuff ,mostly because of the wild colors available and quick drying time. This was more for fun and personal use.Now some of the guys are showing an interest in them but i,m not sure if they,ll hold up well enough to put out there. i,ve been using nail polish as a head cement as well .Any thoughts or experience on this one.Unfortunately i can,t get out to test them any time soon (work sucks) Jim
  17. If it wasn,t midnight i,d go out in the garage and start painting!! That,s a beauty
  18. What you want is EnviroTex Lite (Etex) is what most of the guys call it on here. Michael,s Craft Store sells it ,wait for a 40% or 50% off coupon in a local paper
  19. I,m sure this wouldn,t apply everywhere but around here if you had an accident with a homemade paint booth i,m pretty sure your home insurance would not cover you. They would want to see a UL or CSA sticker on the booth or you could have a home made one inspected by someone like a fire marshal but that would be exspensive and a pain.Using solvent free material, explosion proof motors or belt driven blower motors and insuring your paint has dryed before it even gets near the motor are all steps in the right direction. Of course the ideas, input and critiicism of everyone on the site gives us a place to start then hopefully we can make our own decisions on how we might tackle the problem. I need to build one before winter so hope this topic really takes off . Jim
  20. Nice job ex,guess it,s time i built one getting tired of turning by hand and only being able to etex one at a time. Thanks for the inspiration.
  21. That didn,t go anywhere did it,think i,ll contact bogg,s and see what they say Thanks Bruce Jim
  22. While we,re on the subject of boggs i,ve got a question.A couple months ago i bought a used tackle maker from a guy thought it was a boggs but now i,m not sure. it looks the same except it,s gray not black and the eye pin can not be changed not sure about the king pin .The name boggs is not on it anywhere however ANGLING SPECIALTIES is.Would like to order a different head and king pin but not sure if the boggs parts would work. What do you guys think. Jimbo
