  1. I love my old 7'6" medium action flipping stick for crankbaiting, mostly for the length, and that my boat's rod box handles up to 7' rods. Being a telescopic, it easily fits. I was curious, has anyone made typical flipping sticks into spinning rods? I would love to have a couple medium and 1 medium light spinning rods for the wind i fished in today. Why haven't i ever seen one anywhere? Are they not possible to make? Any feedback is appreciated.
  2. My opinion on color and details seem to be different than most of the posts so far. I do not think that details matter that much to our finny friends. How many details can a fish see while trying to decide if that bait streaking by is edible or not? I don't think they care, and if they stop to mull it over - the bait is gone. Suspending jerks and soft plastics surely should look natural because of their (usually) slow or stopped rate of retrieve. Well, no. We have caught fish on colors not found in nature herself. Lures are just tools. It is more important to use the lure in the manner that it was designed, in an area that potentially holds fish. You can drown live bait all day and not catch anything if your fishin where they aint. Location, depth, and speed control (Mr Buck Perry),light penetration, water temp, and even lake traffic, to me , are more important than color or details on a bait. The colors and details are for our entertainment only. To the newbie goes the the pretty lures- we old farts can catch fish on just about anything or any color. GO FISH
  3. Details, details, details. Here in the Detroit area , most of our lakes are clear. And i must admit that i have a ratio of about 6 to 1 in favor of "natural" looking crankbaits as opposed to "unnatural" finishes. I think that suspending jerks should be a natural color, but how well do fish see a crank that is usually moving pretty fast? Soft plastics, being retrieved alot slower, or even sitting still ,should be as natural as can be, right? Then explain bubblegum, methiolate, metalflake, etc. Colors and details are fun for us fisherpersons, but are they important to bass & pike? THE FISH BIT BECAUSE YOU RETRIEVED YOUR LURE IN IT'S VICINITY. You could throw live bait around for your entire life and not get bit, if you are fishin where the fish aren't. We don't need all the details, but that is half the fun. GO FISH!
  4. Hey Griz, it sounds like your dad got skunked alot.....
  5. I guess that makes sense, thanks guys. I don't know where Burgin is, but I do know my way around Mayfield and Murray a little bit. Sure would like to fish Kentucky lake some day....
  6. Anyone remember the name of Jim Rogers' "alphabet" crank of the late 60's & early 70's? I busted a lip off one, and i only have 1 left. I am sure there were diff. weights, but i am partial to the 1/4 oz. Oh, and if you want to get rid of any, i'll find something to trade you with...
  7. jeez muskydan...enough of the !!!!!!!!!!! thanks.

    light action cranks

bB - Looking good, man i love small cranks in the early season. I wish that you gave us some weight and length on these...
  9. It looks like a 1/4 oz. head (minus lip) with a 2/0 or 3/0 hook.
  10. I bought what looks like the same head at Bass Pro a couple of years ago.It came rigged with a 5" shad-type bait that had ribs to make it more flexible, and 2 spares. My head wasn't molded correctly and therefore wouldn't run like it should. Dang if i know who made it though...
  11. Don't forget Harry & Charlies favorite..SCUPPERNONG, which i have never seen before..anybody know what that color looked like? (I don't think he sold that color up here in Mich.

    Hi from OZ

"Spoonplugs"....i still have 4 of them. The basic shape is close to a spoonplug, but the hedhunter is a closer fit. I'm afraid to use my spoonplugs because of all the menacing pike that might steal it.
  13. Sorry KB..those are some uglies...but i could catch a bass on them.
  14. if i were a bass, i'd eat it. now all you need is an endless supply of cranks.have fun...
