  1. Get a gallon of distilled water in the plastic jug. Pour out 3 ounces. Add 3-4 ounces of alcohol to the jug. Add 5 drops of dish washing liquid to the jug. Shake well. Keep it on your bench in small squirt bottles (dollar store for catchup and mustard) Use to clean your spray gun as well as thin paint. I have to do things simple. Too stupid to do any other way.

Improper mixing. check out the search engine in the Hard Baits forum.
  3. I use Folk Art paint all the time. They have a lot more colors than Createx. Make sure you follow the instructions for thinning given on this web site. This until it is lie the consistency of milk. I use the 95/5/5 that is also found in the search feature of this site. 95% distilled water / 5% isopropal alcohol / 5 drops of dawn dish washing liquid. You need this in large amounts to clean your air brush anyway, and it works great to thin paint. Mix well. There are more expensive ways to do all of this. I don't know if there is much in the way of difference in results. (as far as paints and solutions, that is. there is a lot of difference in talent and practice)

    Where's Dick?

http://www.por15.com/prodinfo.asp?number=PELG Check this out. Works well. Feels like DN. My oldest lures are 14 months but holding up great. Create a tough, incredibly "deep" clear finish with Pelucid™. PELUCID™ is one of the most advanced single component clear coats in the world. It's super clear, super glossy, and unbelievably tough! Spray or brush this non-yellowing single-component clear coat over painted or unpainted fiberglass, wood, and other interior surfaces that need a clear lustrous finish. The tough, yet flexible, coating dries clear as water, with a rock-hard finish that won't crack, chip, or peel. It's self leveling, which means it won't leave harsh brush marks. It can be recoated in 5 to 10 minutes, depending on humidity, and will withstand temperatures up to 400 F. Two coats should always be applied, to achieve maximum beauty and protection. PELUCID™ has excellent adhesion qualities, and is highly chemical resistant. Check it out yourself! 15oz..Spray.... $34.95 Pint................ $24.25 Quart............. $42.00 Gallon............ $154.25 WARNING: THIS PRODUCT CONTAINS CHEMICALS KNOWN TO THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA TO CAUSE CANCER, BIRTH DEFECTS OR OTHER REPRODUCTIVE HARM.
  5. I tried the liquid UV Blast. It is bad when you use it by itself, wrinkles, spots, doesn't cure evenly. however, I put on a coat of DN clear, then the UV Blast, then another coat of DN clear. That seems to work OK, but lots of trouble. Don't know what it looks like under a black light.
  6. Get a minnow dip net at the bait shop. Remove it from tthe wire handle. They're soft, pliable, and durable. Just wash it with soap and water if it gets stiff.
  7. Dave When I ran at 10 rpm the D2T would seem to lump or clump up in areas and not cure consistently. When I slowed down it all went away. Thanks again for your work
  8. It's strickly a private commercial fishing operation. You don't even need an Alabama fishing license. They set up the rules to protect their investments in the fish. All fish are relleased. IE: wide gap hooks are prone to hook gills and back of throats, braided line lasts forever if cut off on hang ups. Hope you get some great pictures.
  9. Just a stainless Steel 3/4" self tapping (pointed) screw. The DN will form a seal around the screw after I punch it with an ice pick and screw in the screw. The original instructions say to store the can on it's side with the screw up. I do that also. Like everyone in the comments, I ran into some problem with ever other method I tried except this one.
  10. I use both DN and D2T. Both have thair place depending on what you are doing. I had never been so frustrated in my life with a problem like the storage of DN. I tried everything possible for years including Bloxygen and wasted I don't know how much money on DN. The method described by La Pama on using a self tapping screw and keeping the can on it's side is the only thing you should ever fool areounfd with It works and it works to kleep any moisture cured coating for as long as you want to keep it. Thanks for the tip and dont waste your time or money with any other method.
  11. Cliff I learned someting about this just last week end. I paint and dry well with hair dryer each layer and have not had problems by brushing on, DN like you explained. Last week end while while brushing on DN I dropped a topwater bait into the little cup of DN. I took it out and let it drain and dry and thought it would be fine. Where the bait had been submurged in the DN it had some wrinkles, but not where I had brushed it on in areas that did not get submerged only brushed. Here is what I think I learned - 1) A lot of DN needs a lot of moisture to cure - That is, the more the DN the more moisture it needs to cure - it probably gets some of that moisture from the underlying paint regardless of how well you think you have dried it. We think it is dry and it looks dry, but of course it is not really dry for days. Some moisture may be there for some time and the thicker DN coating sucks that moisture out. 2) this does not happen with metal baits, because the moisture has not soaked into the bait and drys quite well with a hair dryer. 3) brushing DN and not dropping it in the poold of DN does not cause the problem.
  12. Over the past 5 years that I have been getting great information from this site. I think one of the most asked questions from new folks has been about making/buying a lure truner/dryer, closely followed by How do you hold the lure for painting, etc. There are some great homemade turners in the archives (I've made several myself), and I am posting this so this will make it to the archives and thus the searches for future reference. I found this in a catalog for Hagens components out of SD - www.hagensfish.com (800) 541-4586. I think the $128 price with 2 4 RMP motors and 4 holders is reasonable. I've probably spent 3 times that making my own. Thanks to everyone on this site for all the great information you have given me over the years.
  13. a sharpie will run when you put a topcoat on it.
  14. One of your issues is the contrast between the colors you are using. It crackles better when the colors are greatly different.. Gold and white are fairly close. What makes the cracks is the drying or the heat, so as said here use the hair dryer to make the top coat crack, but carefully. Another issue you have is that pearl paint has little pieces of pearl in it.. That makes it harder to crack because of the solid pieces in it.

    Glitter

Using DN with glitter is just not as easy or effective as with D2T. I've used both a lot. D2T will absorb the glitter and leave a smooth surface with glitter in it. With DN you can mix the glitter like the suggestion above. If you want to just do one area with glitter you have to put on a coat of DN sprinlke the glitter where you want it then let dry. Then you have to put several coats of DN over it to try to get it more like with D2T. I've had to use as many as 5 coats to make it like I wanted. That's why I use D2T on some baits and DN on others. They both have their advantages.
  16. It seams to be like everything else in life. A little is good but too much is bad. I use a cheap s heat lamp bulb to shine on my turner while drying D2T. Don't work with DN because it is moisture cured. After turning an hour I hang it closer to the lamp for another hour. They are ready to handle then and I do not have any problem fishing them the next day and they have not yellowed or cracked. Sometimes when it is cold where I am working in the garage, I'll put the D2T tube under the light to make it flow smoother on to the bait as well. I keep it inside at about 72 degrees to store it. On this site it is posted that D2T is best at about 68 to 72 degrees. Use a cheap cooing thermometer.
  17. I drilled holes in each side of my paint booth and slid a dowel rod through it. Slid large O rings with brass swivels on them over the dowel rod. Use paper clips to hang tghe bait from the swivels and another unfolded clip to hold with the opposite eyes and you can paint and dry.
