  1. no, some hand sanding needed
  2. lure making can be a tedious, frustrating, expensive and time consuming process. we all know this from past experience! especially my own past experience! you might be better off searching Ebay for additional baits or, as Wayne suggested, post a picture so we know which bait you are referring to. perhaps someone on the forum can help yo find some. also notice my use of punctuation which makes the post easier to read .
  3. everything hand carved and then sanded with 80 grit prior to primer fror painting. here are the 3 ready for paint and then finishing. after doing a couple hundred bluegill I can pretty much freehand everything. now I just have to decide what bluegill patterns to do. maybe do one as a crappie?
  4. PVC board has a hard outer skin ( no more than 1/32") that i trim off using a tablesaw. that exposes the softer inner material that can be carved easily. if you don't have a tablesaw, glue some 60 grit paper onto a flat board and sand it off. then take some 80 or 100 grit to smooth it prior to carving. takes more time but that will work. you will be able to tell when the skin is removed.
  5. here's some pics of a small bait in progress. total length is 3". the first segment is 1 1/2". the following segments are aprox. 3/4" each so that would be a 2.1.1 ratio ( I think ). notice that the line tie is slightly above the center line of the bait. haven't filled in the ballast pockets yet so you can see approx. how I do that. keeping the ballast as low in the bait I think helps eliminate side roll and flat sides helps too. I generally don't get side roll in my baits. test swam this and most of the swim action is in the second and third segments. once it is finished with the fin work and tail fin it should have a nice quick swimming action on a moderate or fast retrieve. i'll try to get a swim video when it is done if my tank will still hold water
  6. Mark deserves a lot of credit for posting the thread on PVC. at over 3000 views i'm sure there is a lot more interest in PVC then before.
  7. I asked about stocking the 2ton but no luck on that. I guess it is a corporate decision.
  8. I don't use it for a topcoat so yellowing doesn't matter. I use it as an adhesive for gluing the baits together and setting the fins in the baits. just thought I would put that info out there in case someone was looking for some and DIDN'T WANT TO GET IT OFF EBAY !
  9. was in the local Lowes store the other day and they had Devcon 5 minute epoxy. $15 for the 9 oz. size. that is close to what I have been paying from Ebay with shipping. now I don't have to wait a week to get it!
  10. search 4" tape aluminum tape on ebay
  11. home depot, lowes, etc. it's aluminum duct tape. keep in mind that I polished this after I applied it. if you want wider tape you can get wider tape on Ebay.
  12. use aluminum tape and polish it with aluminum polish. sand the bait smooth to get the best results ( something I didn't do )
  13. look at the end of the board and you can usually see if there might be voids in it. I have noticed this in boards I bought and a lot of time it runs the length of the board. I don't worry a lot about small voids as I just fill them with filler. the big voids can be a problem.
  14. go to your local Lowes or Home depot and look for PVC trim boards. should be in the millwork area. used for exterior trim around doors and windows.
  15. made a bunch more copies !
  16. that should read still !!
  17. if you can post a picture of what you have so far you might get more advise. lots of information here for free!
  18. their fabrication and finishing page states that the product cannot be painted or glued. that would eliminate a lot of bait making procedures.
  19. this is the cheapest I have found the 2t OMNI models on Ebay

    Glow Paint

not paint, its the powder. what I did was spray the bait with polyurethane and then dump the powder on it, lightly press it down with your finger and then dump off the excess. do one side at a time. repeat the whole process again. after I had 2-3 layers of the powder stuck I sprayed with poly again to lock everything together. let it dry for a day and then I clearcoated it with epoxy. it will have a rough feel. funny thing about it. glowed like hell in the water and was able to pick it out on the viewfinder of my camera real easy. went home and downloaded the video from the camera and there was no image. out of the water the image showed up good with the video.

is this what you are trying to get?
  22. worked ok. actually the 'fur' is the cover from a stuffed animal. here's another I made for a guy who wanted a red head.? I didn't put fur between the joints and I used scissors to give it a "buzz cut"
