  1. this what you are after? paint brush fibers!
  2. what is the material you are using? I did that with pvc. I used a flat blade screwdriver. heated it and inserted it into the segment where I wanted the slot. probably work with a soft wood also.
  3. I use the PVC trim boards from Home depot. I've used the Azek from Vintage woodworks too. it is slightly more dense but works fine. if you order from Vintage make sure you get the smooth side boards and not the stuff with the wood grain finish.

  5. use a utility knife. it carves easily.
  6. my on brushes, it is money well spent for good quality brushes. google 'Royal' deerfoot brushes. I use these and have found them to give me the best results. a few bucks for some brushes is a drop in the bucket if you are going to get into bait making .

  8. never mind. just found a comparison chart with the information I need.
  9. trying to get an idea of how hard or soft something with a shore hardness of 30 might be. any everyday items that might have that hardness that I would be familiar with. I can order urethane with that harness but not sure just what the density would be like and I don't want to spend $50+ without some idea of hardness.
  10. anyone have any idea what the shore hardness of typical plastic baits might be?
  11. I finally am able to get back to making baits! I was in the process of relocating to another area but that didn't work out so i'm back where I started ( within 5 miles ) at a different address. have had a lot of inquiries as to when I would be making baits again and I told them to just watch the forum as I would post a thread as to when I was back. here's one of my short videos of a trout from a few years back, enjoy. john Trout 1.wmv Trout 1.wmv Trout 1.wmv Trout 1.wmv Trout 1.wmv Trout 1.wmv Trout 1.wmv Trout 1.wmv Trout 1.wmv
  12. check this out if it will post. probably like featherlite but you need to check the hardness. took about 5 minutes doing a web search to find it. http://www.industrialpolymers.com/product-list/rigid-castings-resins/
  13. check the display. they usually have stainless wire in the same gauge.

price sounds about what I pay at Home Depot. remember that it has a hard skin that you need to sand off or trim off. check the end of the board to see if you can mark it with your thumbnail. they may also sell some vinyl trim boards that are hard as heck all through. also look at the end to see if there are any voids. these will sometimes run a long way through the board.

pictures would help if you can to show the body shape. also how you are ballasting the baits.
  17. don't know why the underlining
  18. Hurley, do this: google vintage woodworks scroll down the left hand column to plain boards click on Azek PVC trimboard about 1/2 way down the page is "order free sample" they will send you a piece to make a decent size bait or two and you can experiment with PVC jr
  19. you could always switch to PVC and water penetration would not be an issue.

I've noticed that the density can vary depending on who makes it. I always got mine from Lowes and then they changed suppliers and the stuff was more porous with some occasional voids in the material. switched to getting it at Home Depot and it's more to my liking.
  21. click on forums, scroll down to tutorials
  22. let me know how the tank does testing the swimbait when you get one made. great job! I might have to make one also.
  23. to avoid filling in the slots when I am spraying on a clearcoat. I fold small pieces of wax paper and insert them into the slots and pull them out when i'm finished spraying. you can also use a small flat tip screwdriver to clean out the slot after it has set up.
  24. attaching fiber fins is the last thing I do to baits. paint, clearcoat and then attach fins. I learned early on that trying to keep epoxy or whatever clearcoat you are using off the fins was a PITA! cut slots for the fins to go in and epoxy them in as a last step.
  25. everyone looking for mesh (lace) material for scale patterns should check out your local retailers Halloween costumes. just got a ballerina costume with a crapload of lace in two different pattern sizes for doing my baits ( when I can resume building again) for $6. plan on going back after Halloween to see if they have reduced any more for quick sale!. check Target, Walmart, etc. as they closeout all the remaining stock rather than try to store it for next year.
