  1. If i were to buy all the tools needed to paint my own hardbaits, what would that consist of? I am not rich, but i believe that if you buy the best you can that it will be best in the long run. So from start to finish, if i were serious about painting my own cranks, and I was not afraid to spend a few $$, what would I need and how much? Not looking for a starter kit, I would want good stuff and all the tools needed to paint, paint itself, clear coats, detailing, etc. Thanks
  2. Hand pour. Tails need to be cut but it is easy to do.
  3. The tube on the left is a bps and mine is on the right. IThe bps tube is a standard 4 inch. I think they call it a magnum tube.
  4. It is tapered. I had the mold done custom based on the specs from the Bass Pro Shops Tubes.
  5. Sorry, I meant not more than 15-20 lures made on it.
  6. Don't really use tube mold much anymore. Mold was used not more than 15 times and it cost $144 new. $100 TYD.
  7. I have a crankbait I wish to take the BB's out of. It is a clear colored crankbait where I can see the BB's/ I want to keep the balls used as weights and remove the BB;s that are used as rattles. After I drill into the lure and remove the BB's, is there a good/clear epoxy I can use to seal up the hole? What else must i do to the lure after that?
  8. Any ideas on what to tie the guard to in regards to tying it back?
  9. What kind of wire do you use and where can I get it?
  10. I tried making my jigs a little last year and I found it frustrating. I want to try again. The only problem is I don't want to pour my own lead. I know I want to use wire to wrap the skirts instead of thread or those rubber collars that go after a while. Is there a method for tying the skirts while the weedguard is still in? Or would it be best to rip the weedguard out and then put another back in later? If the latter is the case, what would be the best method to re-insert the weedguard? Thanks
  11. I can't seem to get my tubes to be a little thicker. I always pour in 4 oz. increments. I added about 1/2 teaspoon of hardener and the tubes come out the same as the ones without any hardner. I use LC's medium plastic. I am also letting the baits sit for a day.
  12. Hello all. I am going to start tying my own bass jigs this winter. I am not interested in making the heads. I am goint to buy them. However, I am curious as to what other supplies I need. I am also going to get a fly-tying vice but I have no idea which one I might need. Also, what other supplies might I need? Is there a book or DVD out there just for flying bass jigs? Thanks
  13. Glad to see so much feedback however, I am sorry if i am offending any purists, but i was thinking into just the custom painting part. I would buy bodies and paint my own. i alos have a lot of old lures I don't use. I was looking more for advice on just the painting part. i would like to start there before actaully creating my own baits. Thanks
  14. I know nothing aboutmakingmy own hardbaits, not am I even a decent artist, but I live up north where winter is long and I love the look of custom cranks. Is there any books/dvd that could help? Also, what about air brushes? What kind, how many? I would rather buy more expensive since I have always found you get what you pay for. I don't need the most expensive stuff, but i want some qaulity. I know there is a lot to learn and since my winter here is coming to a close, I am thinking of making this next winter's endeavor, but would like to start learning and acquiring goods soon. Thanks
  15. Where do you get the skits from and how do you attatch them?
  16. I have searched the threads here and on delmart.com. The one i saw here was pretty complex and i only plan on making a few tubes at a time for personal use. On del's sight, I found a great tool, but can't seem to find the parts necessary, mainly the small metal paint roller with the locking nut. I am planning on using olfa 28mm rotary blades, in the tool, that is unless someone has a better, easier method or tool for cutting good tails. I am trying to just come up with something that I can run across the tail end of the tube and all the tails will be cut. I don't want to spend the time cutting each tail with a razor blade. Thanks
  17. Ok, I see a lot of people use the LC colors. What is the difference between LC's colors and Del's?
  18. Anyone have a good recipe for zoom's pumpkinseed? I just got some new colors ands my first few attempts were lousy.
  19. I have several different colors from Del. I forgot to order a few colors so i was going to buy some glitter from a craft store. Is the glitter at a craft store different from glitter you would buy from Del or LC?
  20. I use regular table salt. I have a grinder too if that helps.
  21. I am officially hooked on pouring my own baits. I am going to pick up a stick mold from Del in a few weeks. While considering it, i was playing around with adding salt to my beavers. The problem I have, is that all the salt seems to get stuck to the bottom and not much gets in my beavers. I am not really concerned with this for my beavers however, I plan on heavily salting stick baits. What can I do to remedy this problem?
  22. I am by no means an expert. i just started pouring myself. But I also use a microwave and get bubbles as soon as I take the plastic out of the microwave. Here is what I do to eliminate that. As soon as you pull the plastic out of the microwave, give it a quick stir. That usually takes most of the bubbles out.
