Here is what i came up with, with the lure craft paint. I only had purple, black, pink and orange color to work with. I like the paint!!! Im going to get more colors. I was just messing with the new paint I bought to try. It has a black back with purple sprayed over the top of the black and sides then a touch of pink down the sides also. Then orange and a bunch of HOLOGRAPHIC glitter in the belly. Do you like?

Thanks guys, Joe, yes you dip it in clear plastic after you paint it. That brings it to life, It doesn't look like much till you get the clear plastic on it. No its not lure craft paint but i did get a shipment today of their paint. It was done with a MAC tools air brush which is just like the Iwata TR2 airbrush. I got a great deal on it. Now for the paint, I have been using SEM "color Coat" for my black and Grey metallic colors. It comes in an aerosol can, I drain it into jars. This paint is flexible drys fast and sticks to soft plastic. you can get it in automotive stores. The Green is made with Clear laqure base paint mixed with Dels Black melon dye and thinned 3 to 1 with Lacquer thinner. The orange was made with Clear lacquer base paint mixed with Dels Yellow,Red & florescent orange Dye then thinned 3 to 1 with lacquer thinner "fast drying type". The mixed paint doesn't stick real well so try not to touch the bait after you paint it. once you dip it in clear plastic, its sealed and you don't have to worry about it. You can get the Clear lacquer paint at hobby stores, they use it to paint plastic slot car bodies. Im still going to give LifeTone paint a try. They make alot of good colors. you can find it at this link http://www.vandykestaxidermy.com/product/01001059/ im going to give the Lure craft paint a try tonight but i only bought Blaze orange, Purple, and Pink to try. we'll see what i come up with. PS: The eyes are Googley Eyes from wal-mart,Super cheap and they rattle!!!!

Thanks outdoor. I have been thinking why cant you paint these tube swim baits just like a hard jerk bait to make them look like the real deal so I gave it a try. My next one will be a baby bass.

Ron, I'm the middle of getting set up to start making Tube swim baits, I have been doing a lot of research on paints for them and I think you may want to give Lifetone Paint a try They have alot of cool colors im going to. Its a lacquer based acrylic paint that will dry real fast. I'm going to give them a call to see if it will stick to Plastic im pretty sure it will . Here is a site you can find it at. http://www.vandykestaxidermy.com/subcategory/177/

Benton will they stick to Soft Plastic and what site do you get them at? Thanks

Cliff, will that paint stick to soft plastic baits and dry super fast? Im making tube swim baits, they are made by diping process dipped 4 times. So after the 3rd dip you paint on the Scale pattern put on the eyes then dip the the 4th time in clear plastic. I have used SEM color Coat paint out of a spray can that you can buy at a auto parts store and it works but i want more control over the paint so im buying a airbrush to do it. Thanks Ted

Has any of you guys used this airbrush or herd anything about it "DeVilbiss DAGR Airbrush". Im going to be spraying Auto type paints on to my soft plastic baits. I found on youtube a master airbrusher that swears by this airbrush. here is a link to it http://bearair.com/prodinfo.asp?number=100484

Bob, Thanks for the info. I'm a Hand Pourer not a painter so this is totally new to me. I'm just trying to find the best airbrush to use and the best paint to use to paint soft bodied baits. Like i said before all i have used so far to paint Scales on my Tube swim baits is a can of auto paint its called SEM color coat "flexible coating" and it worked but i want more control thats why im getting into airbrushing them instead.

True spike -- its an e-bay deal---- I think im going to go with a new one. I'm only going to use it for Scale patterns on my hollow bodied soft swim baits at this point and have to use auto type paint to get it to stick to the plastic. I bought a can of auto spray touch up paint at the auto store and i liked the effect i got but you don't have the control with a paint can. What is the best airbrush paint to use on soft plastic baits?

Riverman-- I can buy a used one "HP-cs" for $75. The guy says its only been used 5 times and is in grate shape. Should I buy it or should I buy new for $109?

gadawgs Yes you can. Thats what I did
-
Nova, Yes you can do it from the stem or you can get them packaged already plucked. I got mine at a local Tackle shop that sells fly tying stuff. I also mold them in each pincher on my Harry Beevs for myself. you guys should try that. Guys that have seen them around hear want me to start selling my Harry Beev like that.

Here is a few i did, I think im starting to get it down. Who is using Del's Rods? I would like to see a pic of each of his."that sounds kinda faggy i know LOL" The bad lighting in the pic didn't show the color good so i photo shopped it--- gave them a plastic wrap affect.. witch brought out the color better. My lateral line is a pea#### Herl Feather The eyes are Goggley Eyes They Rattle are cheap and seem to work fine. do to the big bulgy eye's I think im going to call my version the BugEye Minnow

Tubeman, So you mean on the first three dips, you lean the dipping rod backward as you pull it out of the plastic so it drip's off the bait just behind the nose on the belly side? do you flip the rod just before the plastic cools to avoid having a string of plastic set up behind the nose of the bait? Thanks a lot for your great info I really appreciate it.
-
Tubeman are you using Del's dipping rods or did you make your own? Also what Temp is your plastic when you dip? that makes a difference on how thick the plastic will be. I also just noticed in some pic's of Basstrix on a web site that they look like a tag end is cut off at the nose. so my next question is do you just let the plastic run off the nose of the bait and then just cut off the long stringy tag after every dip? Or do you angel it back so it runs back onto the bait?

Thanks earthworm, I was wondering if they would take the heat

Hey guys, has anyone used Googly Eyes for these baits? I was at wal-mart and found them in the craft section. They are the type that has the moving eye ball but they are not Holographic. They were .97 for 80 of them. Stamina sells them for alot more 9.70 for 100 of them. I bought the 7MM and 10MM size.
