  1. Welcome Mendoza, 28 years of experience should make you a big asset to TU. Post up some pics of your lures and tell us about them. dj
  2. Here's a couple old timey style topwater lures I made last year. My version of a woodpecker with glass eyes and gill slashes and a turtleneck. Turned from poplar wood and hand painted with a brush. What'a ya think?
  3. Thought I'd run this thing by you all and see what you think. It's a woodpecker type topwater with three fixed double hooks. It is turned from basswood and measures 4-1/8 inches long. Plans call for a red/white/black paint scheme and double position line ties. Thanks for looking, daymon

    Wood Frog Bait

Nice frog John! Love the old timey look!
  5. Nice looking pop-n-dunk! What did you make the lip out of?
  6. Good looking trout Jason, what kind of trout is it going to be? I vote brookie!
  7. Nice popper, and good looking brush job too. I like your version of bluegill. TJE is right, try photographing your lure on a lighter background. A piece of styrofoam works great and doesn't reflect the flash.
  8. Nice stuff Bruce! You are definately a detail man!
  9. Well, I'm not in high school anymore but that doesn't mean I'm not poor LOL. I don't own an airbrush so all of my lures are done with spray cans or brush or a combination of the two. For my spray paint I use Krylon and for the brushing I've used everything from enamel to acrylics to fingernail polish! Next lure you make grab some spray cans and try your hand at shading, blending and maybe some scales (search past posts for info on scale painting) and then maybe add some brushed accents like this one I made last fall. Above all don't get discouraged, practice a few techniques and develope your own style. Then everyone will be trying to paint like YOU! Stick with it and post up some pics of your progress.
  10. Thanks guys for the compliments, it means a lot coming from guys. In answer to a few of your comments; Vodkaman, this prop was made just like that, by soldering a tube into the hand cut copper propeller, and although it doesn't show up well in the pic it rides against a cone washer epoxied to the nose. Fatfingers, I have used pop rivets for tubes too and they work pretty well. And Spare, I'll have to check out McMasters for those nuts. Again thanks for the encouraging words.
  11. Nice looking lure, love the paint job!
  12. Turned from Poplar, glass eyes, rattle can base colors with hand painted spots and gill slashes, dual props and hook point dorsal.
  13. 6-1/4 inch underwater minnow made from a paint brush handle. Glass eyes, 1/0 hooks, handmade copper nose prop and folkart 'Peacock Pike' fihish.
  14. I don't know if any of you all are into this or not but here is a bait I finished recently. When I think of 'Folkart' I think of using whatever you can scavenge to make a piece of art or something useful. So here is what I did with my favorite paint brush when it finally wore out. This BHM (Brush Handle Minnow) is 6-1/4 inches long and sports minimal carving, 7mm glass eyes in the factory hanging hole, a handmade copper prop, 1/0 trebles and three belly weights. I'm not sure what you would call the folkart pattern, maybe 'Pea#### Pike'? LOL My plan is to wear this thing out this summer as I attempt to dredge up a muskie or two on my local river. Comments welcome, good or bad! daymon
  15. "King" he is! Those are awesome, I think he missed his calling though. He should be a taxidermist, LOL. Thanks for showing us these Husky.
  16. Cute little "Keepers", and the fish is nice too!
  17. Very nice lure John! Excellent carving and great realistic paint job. Love the eyes too.
  18. Nice looking lures! As for me, my favorites are the Pike and the Musky. I'm currently working on a folkart style underwater minnow in a Pea####??? Pike pattern, hope to post a pic soon.
  19. Great stuff man, made my cold windy day much better! BTW, you do realize you've started something here? You'll be expected to keep us entertained from now on man! Thanks for the great vids.
  20. Great looking lures Rob. Love the Florida stuff.
