  2. Step 1. Scuff lure Step 2. Bulldog adhesive promotor Step 3. Nason 2k Etch Primer Step 4. White or Black Auto Air 16 oz base coat Step 5. Paint Bait Step 6. Dry really good over night with heat lamp or hair dryer Step 7. Dick Nites Step 8. CATCH A HUG FISH If you want to save money DON't PAINT THE BAIT!
  3. I dont use paint... I just wiggle my nose like that chick did on bewitched and WALLA.. 100 dollar lure.
  4. What if you drive a semi and your from the State of Alabama.. Can you call your truck a ALABAMA RIG? or is that against the law too.
  5. You can also use a plunger.. its is made of rubber and you can just pour your resin in the bottom and put your wires in it... WALLA!! A REAL ALABAMA BAIT
  6. COOKING OIL.. works. PEANUT OIL. OLIVE OIL..
  7. Sense I normally try to do 30 to 40 baits at a time -- and I normally mix 2 ounces at a time--- I can run one coat on all the baits and hang them as I go. Then when its time to do the 2nd coat and 3rd the process doesnt change and they have all tacked up really good. Not sure if this answers your question and if it doesnt we will try again ! Regards, Blades Im glad you told them about the tack coat John cause I was about to say the same thing. If you put too much clear coat on at one time it will cause the wrinkling problem that guy is talking about. When I spary my baits with Auto Clear I usually spary about 50 to 100 baits at one time.. I spary one quick tack coat no gloss. what is a tack coat? or what doest it look like...if you let the tack coat dry and touch it with your finger.. it would kinda feel like sand paper after you done and not have any gloss... if you do it right the tack coat holds the 2nd gloss coat in place and you don't need a lure turner and should not have runs or drips.... After I finish the 50 or so baits with my first tack coat.. I got back to bait number 1 and put the 2nd GLOSS coat on. Then let your baits dry for 3 or 4 days before you fish them..some clear coats might even take as much as 2 or 3 weeks before you even let them touch the water. The Rookie Blades is the master at finishes
  8. You guys want to really know why the A-Rig Catches fish....Cause everyone is using it right now. You can only catch fish on the bait you throw in the water...A spinner bait does the same thing.. make the bass think its a school of fish.. make a spinnerbait with a bunch of blades and WALLA you got the next A rig with 1 hook. Just food for thought. I got a chevy c10 pickup truck lure that catches fish.. do you think If I win a big tournament on it Bass will outlaw it because its not a Toyota. Guess I better have back Tundra bait too. GET BACK TO WORK DIPSTICKs and go create the beautiful baits all of you create... If I offended anyone by callin you a dipstick I ment it with love. XOXOXOX HUGS AND KISSES TATER
  9. Tony..if your only fishing in 1 to 4 foot of water you should NEVER!! I REPEAT NEVER!! lose a bait in the lake unless you cast 80 foot up in a tree or the fish breaks your line... if you don't have a lure retriever take your rod and reel all your line in until you get down to the bait and push. 99 percent of the time your rod will knock off your bait. I don't remember the last time I lost a bait I couldn't get off a stump or brush or rocks in less than 6 feet of water. Just what I do.. just try not to break your rod... If you get hung up as much as I do you will get the hang of it and before you know be purdy darn good at getting it un hung. Im too cheap to buy a lure retriever Ben!
  10. I wish that was my only problem today.. I got that stupid XP 2012 ANTISPYWARE VIRIUS.. LET ME TELL YOU..its a pain in the butt to get off your computer. If anyone gets try Spyhunter4 software.. That stuff is the BOMB! You might have a malware that is effecting your computer DOUBLE TROUBLE! The Rookie
  11. How long did it take to make the box.. That's cool too!
  12. Here you go DIPSTICK! HARD FLUKE. Darts all over the place. Make it in Floating which is good over underwater laydowns and brush. Slow Sinking is great in winter under docks and rip rap. Fast Sinking used off drops! [/img] Uploaded with ImageShack.us
  13. Do what I do. Shop at Target the mom's are hottier their anyway.
  14. Fisherman make the best baits...not engineers. Good luck with your study. I would talk more on this subject but I got to get to the lake and see if my boy YANNNN CEE Rate is correct on some crankbaits I just made. Wish I was an engineer...Then I wouldn't have to go to the lake and fish all these baits to see if they work! MAN THAT WOULD SUCK!
  15. IM JUST STIRin the POT cause man its been such a lot time since we talked about clear coats!. I have used them all... Epoxy has its place but its not my favorite. Automotive clear is great for mass production but it depends on the kind you use and the primer and paint you use with it. I didn't like Dick Nites at first because it was hard to use or I wasn't doing something right which is normal for this idiot. But I think Dick fix my biggest issue with it. I had problems with wrinkles on the old stuff but the new stuff seems to work out better for me when I brush it on. The wrinkle problems could have been my fault for all I know. But the new stuff I got from Dick is GREAT! My favorite epoxy is Bob Smith 20 min pot life. But I use it as a under coat for my foil baits then top coat with Dick Nites. As Automotive clears go....The best stuff I have found is POR 15 GLISTEN PC! NASTY STUFF...negative is it takes 5 days to dry and doesn't get hard enough to fish until about 2 to 3 weeks after you clear coat the bait. But if your doing productions its the best stuff to spary. Dupont Select is great product if you want speed in your production but it will not hold up as good as Glisten PC or Dick Nites. I have tried a bunch... All im saying is D2T epoxy is by far the worst of all of them if you did a tale of the tape. (MARK EXTEX SUCKED FOR ME BECAUSE I DONT HAVE A LURE TUNNER..NEVER HAVE AND NEVER WILL) But really none of that matters... WHAT MATTERS THE MOST IS!!!! DO YOU CATCH FISH ON THE BAITS YOUR MAKING. If fisherman are catching fish they could careless how great the clear coat is..if they do they aren't fisherman..cause I got this one bait that has been through war.. Caught well over 500 bass with it the last 2 years and it doesnt have much paint left.. I got a ditch left in the belly from the hooks..and the clear lip is no longer clear because of rocks docks stumps and hooks... but that sucker is my goto bait! I will never repaint it and if I ever lost it I would dive in for it. I don't really remember what clear coat I used the time I did it.. Could careless.. I don't know how much it weights.. I don't know how deep it dives.. I didn't make a blue print before I made it.. I didn't test it for months or have deep thoughts about it before decided to fish it.. I just MADE IT AND FISHED IT! Why...because Im a fisherman. I don't care if the bait got torn up.. Im just happy it is getting torn up. Their is better stuff out their than epoxy Gentle. But if you just want to paint a bait and go fishing the next day then epoxy works out great. It just doesn't stand up to the test of time as well as the others do...but if your catching fish WHO CARES! I just figured out after a few months of painting baits that epoxy wasn't for me.. Lure Professor told me to stop using it weeks before that but, I was stubborn and kept using it. Later found out the guy that had over 30 years of knowledge over me was right. Sometimes less is more and well more is less. Hopes this helps.
  16. Man I swear I hear about more and more people with cancer every stinkin day.. When is this crap going to stop. I don't know Don but those cranks look very interesting and original. Love the idea. Wish I had gotten the chance to meet him. Sounds like a heck of guy. The Rookie
  17. Don't use epoxy to clear coat your baits then you will not have any of these problems with added weight. Epoxy turns yellow over time.. Gets too hard..Doesn't Flex... CRACKS CHIPS AND PEALS.. The only thing epoxy is good for is glue. NOT CLEAR COAT. Not my opinion ....FACT!
  18. Just dip the lure in White or Black then go fishing. The world has too much gray as it is!
  19. Ben You're so ugly, you stuck your head out of the car window and got arrested for mooning. You're so ugly, when you sit in the sand the cats try to bury you. If ugliness were bricks, you would be the Great Wall Of China. You're so ugly, you mother had to get drunk before she breast fed you. You're so ugly, you have to sneak up on your mirror. You're so ugly, when you threw a boomerang it didn't come back. All in good fun for my pal Ben! Thanks for being a good friend and having a sense of humor. I know you will pay me back for this somehow... Matt
  20. Its only because I still have teeth Ben. see....
  21. Dear Santa, Each year as thanksgiving approaches I like to write you my gift request letter and get a jump on all the spoiled brats in the world. I feel like it's first come first served and well yes I know im 40 but hey...they say 40 is the new 12 and my wife calls me a child so if you can't beat them join them. Anyway, I have decided to make the list shorter this year and just stick to things I would like to have for my shop and maybe a few extra request to make 2012 better than 11. Feel free to add extras if you can think of something I might have left off...I know I wasn't that good this year but hey Im better looking than Ben in Texas so better has to be good for something. 1. How about a lure drying wheel. I always wanted one of those but felt like cooking chicken was more important. 2. A endless supply of #11 Razor blades..If this economy keeps up I might be able to sell them instead of trying to sell the lures I make using them. 3. A wrap on my Ranger that says "CHICKS DIG TATERS " who doesn't and my boat is only 19 foot. Its not how deep you fish Santa...its how you wriggle your hoochie! 4. Could it be possible to have an elf for the shop? Man that would be awesome! Then I could fish even MORE! and still ship out Mike's stuff to Maryland before next year. 5. Please fix Peyton's neck and return him back to form in 2012. Yes were suckin for Luck but rule number one! Never leave a good fishing hole to find new fish. I hope this year final ends the who is better Peyton or TOMMY BOY! Bite me Brady...Peyton never had a team! He was the team. 6. Cancel Dancing with the Stars. You lost me when you put Nancy Grace on! 7. Please let us write the world Alabama again without fear of a lawsuit. Can you trademark a State? Cause if you can I want Idaho and Arkansas! 8. Duck Tape! You can never have too much Duck Tape! 9. A new duel action airbrush that talks! It could say things like..."I wouldn't do that..... or I told you so"....man that would save me a bunch of time....no forget that...I got a wife. These are just a few of my requests. Any of them will do.... thanks again and Happy Thanksgiving. The Rookie
  22. http://www.coastairbrush.com/proddetail.asp?prod=CN If you want the best cheap airbrush I have ever used.. Click the link above. I got it to see how it worked. Personally I still love my DeVilbiss Dagr but its cost more than the Neo and the more you spend doesnt mean the better you paint. But if you paint alot of baits you want smooth feel. The DeVilbiss has a smoother feel than the Neon. Just like the Iwata Eclipse feels smoother when you use it compared to the cheaper Neo. Save your 20 bucks and spend 30 more...50 bucks is cheap for a airbursh. And the Neo is a great gun for that price range. Hope this helps you CHEAP TIGHT WALLET!....SPEND SOME DAM MONEY AND HELP OUT THIS ECONOMY!
