  1. I really like the TN Shad with the Circut Board lip!!! It's my fav.. Cedar is a witch to carve that's for sure... But seems to be alot easier to seal up before you paint it. Both are poplar woods to pick from if you want to make your own lures.. GET IT DEAN!! POPLAR...
  2. Dean is right ..... CEDAR is nasty!!! I been making some Cedar baits all week.. I will say its alot easier to seal up than balsa.. but Balsa has more action and by far my favorite wood to work with since I started messing with this stuff.. Good luck The ROOKIE..
  3. CAN WE GET a AMEN from the CONGREGATION!!! SPEAK TO US BROTHER MCCLAIN!!! I GOT A SHOOT GUN FULL OF JESUS deep down in my Balsa bones!! Whatever you do dont tell them that you can seal it with DUCK TAPE!!! or we will open another can of worms!!
  4. Good point Blades... well said.. I got one for you along the same line as your boulder story... someone told me at a insurance conference a long time ago... The Snowball effect... When you start out making a snowball its really hard to get it going.. once the snow starts to stick and you move the ball in the snow..it gets bigger and graps up more and more snow... Never heard the boulder effect.. I like that one a little better!!! When the snowball gets so big you will need help to push it.. I would rather have a boulder run down the hill... seems a whole lot easier!! As for ebay.. JT is right! It's tuff to keep it going. Believe me I kill myself daily trying to keep up with it. But if you have a passion for what you do and enjoy it. You can be successful at it. Im lucky for the fact I have a great wife and insurance customers that keep their coverage with me so I have renewal commission to buy lure supplies!! woohoo!! I do ok on ebay but I also dont have the pressure to make my living at it!! But even if I didnt make a dollar selling my stuff to friends or on ebay.. I know I would still paint and try to craft.. Its that much fun to me.. Sometimes, when Im on the lake I wish I were home making lures or painting them.. rather than fishing (USUALLY ON A DAY I left Dean's instruction's on my desk and the sucker's arent bitin..but).. That was when I knew I was screwed up and hooked on this craft! When sanding and painting sounds more fun than fishing!!! GOOD LUCK!! Greg...Dont let anyone tell you!! " YOU CANT"!!! YOU CAN'Ts kill dreams!!! And all of us on TU are dreamers!!! If we werent we would just use the same old stuff they tell us to use.. Whoever they are? NO GO STICK IT TO THE MAN!!! TIME IS WASTIN!!! GO MAKE A LURE!!! The Rookie
  5. Do you guys think our boys at bud could do a radio commerical like here's to you MR. LURE Crafter!!! I bet that one would be funny... Sometimes I know we kinda go to the extreme just to get a fish to bite! This one took me awhile to paint!!! I would much rather paint shad patterns!!! The ROOKIE
  6. Kirbman, I know you can use 5 min epoxy and get it to work... I have tried it before.. but Fatfingers got me on this Epoxy putty a few months back and I love the stuff!! It works better than wood filler.. I use it on all my lure nows.. THANKS FAT!! anyway you drill the hole and fill with any kinda of weight.. I get finesse weights at bass pro...1/8 oz and 1/4 oz.. you can cut them down and play around with the size.... as for drilling the hole I use a dremmel... After you put the epoxy putty over the weight and fill the hole you have to wait about 45 min or so an its rock hard.. I normally wait a good 3 to 4 hours or next day. then I sand the hole smooth so you cant see it when you paint over it. Hope this helps if you need more advice ask Fatfingers. The Rookie
  7. Rofish... YOU DA MAN!!! OUTSTANDING POST!
  8. Man I like to look at the Gallery every night before I go to bed so I can see what everyone is doing... I kinda miss it.. anyone know whats going on with it!! Seems like its been down for 2 days now..
  9. Maybe we should stop the lure painting altogether and follow the Nascar Circut from Track to Track this year. I know we could paint Dale Jr's new paint scheme on buses and campers with this handy dandy mobile compressor!! But believe If I bought one I would break it in about 2 months!!!!!! as far as the Nascar idea... I think this could be a good venture!!! Now all we need is a name for this new business.. finish this one off DEAN!!! You name it.. I will laugh..
  10. :yawn:HE DID IT HIS WAY!!!! Sorry Vodka reminds me of a song!!! Had to post..
  11. I have been messing with the stuff!!! Tigger.. I made a square box out of lexan and epoxied it together... I can put in 4 crankbaits in one mold.. But I also did a 8 inch swimbait!!! I got all the piceces in that same box plus one crankbait... Now making the freaking box was fun!!! I had to cut 5 sides of lexan and hold it together while the epoxy was setting... If yall had a video you would have cracked up watchin!!! As for Foam lures... I have a old Foam Lure Jerry Lohr was messing around with and a friend of mine knows a friend that knows Jerry..LOL anyway he gave me some lures to put some lips in and one was a foam lure...THE SUCKER SMELLS like Gasoline!!! If all foam smells like this I dont want to mess with it!! I will stick to the plastic and microballoons... I hope to have some picture of my molds and lures soon so you can check them out.. I been messing with this for months... But man its fun!!!
  12. BIGGER IS BETTER!!! I have broke two small air compressors... I got a 33 Gallon Craftsman because I was tried of it.. But I paint alot of baits each week... If all your going to do is paint baits for yourself that 6 gallon tank should be ok.. but if your going to try and make a business out of it.. Get something that doesnt have to run much!! Its quieter too... If you have more questions pm me... OH YEAH!!! GO COLTS!!! hope they play your PACK!!! #4 vs #18 would be a great game..
  13. I mix Purple Power and water... just make sure you run water only through the gun after you use the purple power mix... on a side note.. its a great soda remover if you ever have some stains in you car.... MIX it 10 parts water.. 1 part purple... Its great stuff. you can find it a Walmart in the Automotive section..
  14. Fat.... I like the pattern and the lure... do I see a slight bend in the lip too!!! did you boil it in water...
  15. I think they use the same pony I use to ship stuff!!!
  16. Thanks BJ and Thirty.... Balsa was the wood!!! Good luck with the carving.. its fun.. The Rookie
  17. rlcam... I dont know about the rest of the guys... but I put the clear in the O ring holders on purpose.. I want to seal the LURE COMPLETELY!!! so water cant get in their... as for cleaning it out.. I was burning it out with a hit gun.. but the smoke of the epoxy is TOXIC!!! so.. now I take a dremmel and very small bit and grind out the clear!!! Hope this helps.
  18. Well the more I think about it.. I guess I would rather program it to rub my wife's back than paint a lure!!! Think of all the time we could saved Men across the world...
  19. Ok.. I know this post should be in the DOCKS!!! But im never at the DOCKS on this site. My friends are in the hardbait forum... I told Dino this story other day and I think he got a kick out of it...So I thought I would share this lesson with all of you. HEY FORREST!!! YOUR RIGHT!!! The Rookie's Christmas Story. My brother in law is a big guy. But his heart is even bigger.. anyway. He goes over to his Dad's on Christmas eve for the normal gift exchange. As the gifts are being passed out. Big Ben gets his annual gift from his father. Weight has always been a problem for him but he doesnt let it get him down. As he is opening the gift. To his surprize its a box of chocolates.. He looks at my sister with dissappointment and says.."WHY THE HE_L would my Dad get me of all people a box of Chocolates." "He knows I hate Chocolate" He says thanks Dad and puts on a fake grin as he lays the box to the side...Ben's father never tells him to open the box and just says your welcome son. The next day.. Its time for Christmas at My Sisters house. I have 3 Sisters and my Sister from Texas fly's in without a gift for our father. She asks Ben what should she get our Dad (BEN's FATHER IN LAW) for christmas.. Ben, in the giving spirit decides to give away his only gift from his father and hands over the Chocolates... "Here Steph he says.. give your Dad's these..HE LOVES Chocolates I know he will like it.. and I dont really want them." Later that night its time for the gift exchange and Dad opens up Steph's gift...Ben was right!!! DAD LOVED THE Chocolates so much he had to open them up and have just one..... TO his surprize... HE FOUND A CITZENS WATCH in the box and was kinda upset their were no chocolates!!!!!! I wish I had a picture to show yall the expression on Ben's face when Dad put on BEN's watch!!! It looked alot like this!! To this day Dad.. who has a good sense of humor still thinks STEPH got him a Citzens watch!!! Ok to the MORAL!!! IM SURE YOU CAN FIGURE OUT THIS ONE "LIFE's LIKE A BOX OF CHOCOLATES!! YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOUR GOING TO GET" Add your regift story!! Im sure yall have one.
  20. Vodkaman... I got a question for you.. First im lost in Translation on the engineering side.... anyway.. THE ROBOT arm got me thinkin.. Im a video game junkie.. is it possible to hook my arm up to those video game suits that they use to copy player's movements like in Madden Football video game.. EA Sports trys to make it as real as possible and the some of the players dress up in some kind of computer suit and it put's there exact movements in the program.. Im curious to know if that possible for a robot to paint the exact way I paint .. kinda like copying someone's hand writing.. IF THIS IS STUPID QUESTION!!! Let the games begin..I can take it...
  21. Man that show was really cool but it had way to many Commericals!! the best part was the Gator Garr... and the Muskey Replica... I looked into CNC machines a few weeks ago... that one on the show had to be in the six figure range.. I met a kid today at the hobby store who is a engineer major and he said he saw the same show last night.. He told me the machine more than likely cost about 400,000.... WHO's with me.. LETS ALL CHIP IN 1,000 bucks and share it!!! I wouldnt mind to store it in my garage... so yall dont have to worry about where we would put it!!!
  22. WOOHOO!!! IM STILL UP!!!! and its 1:44am. THANKS ALBION!!!!
  23. IM WITH STONE!!! Nice to meet you...Dude those are cool!!! I love the eyes too!!!
