Here Are My Questions. Can I Have Some Answers?
MR KNOW IT ALL KIND OF replied to xix coleman xix's topic in Hard Baits
I kinda do what Bob does.. only I dont thin out my epoxy.. never tried that before. Cool trick Bob. I just coat bait with epoxy...wait 24 hours.. Sand it after it raises the grain of the wood.. Then coat it again. Scuff it Prime it Bondo Glaze it Scuff it again. Prime it.. now it should be smooth as baby's face. Lure Professor has told me about using super glue before but I didnt want to get that stuff on my fingers... I dont really like the taste of it and prefer the taste of epoxy a whole lot better. -

Some of the dots were painted with the tip off the airbrush. like the ones on the head of this picture above. And some of the other dots were painted using the rip stencil trick with a dremmel drill bit. You can use this trick to add extra tiny detail in your stencils that you cant do with a hobby knife.

Take the tip off your airbrush and just paint with the needle only.. you will paint finer sharper dots. TIP 2.. IF YOUR SKILLS OF AIRBRUSH PAINTING are lacking and you got no FINGER CONTROL.. WELCOME TO THE CLUB SKIPPY your not alone! NO NEED TO WORRY... TRICKS arent just for KIDS. TRY THIS TO HELP YOUR DISFUNCTIONAL ABILITY Get out your hand dremmel and drill bit and a mt dew 2 liter bottle or any kind of plastic that is tuffer than most stencil you buy or most of our ego's..You get the point! TAKE A 1/16 or 1/32 or 1/8 or however big you want your holes to be and DRILL THE PLASTIC. The drill bit will rip the plastic bottle up and not make PREFECT DOTS! JUST LIKE MOTHER NATURE DOES. IMPREFECTIONS IS WHAT MAKES THINGS Look PREFECT in the end.. SO I agree with the MOTHER NATURE COMMENT TOO. Uploaded with ImageShack.us Good luck and HAPPY PAINTING!

I vote for Lexan. They last longer and you can paint them easy! Plus you can cut and design them to look like a real tail better than you can soft plastics unless your a soft plastic expert which I am not. I HATE SOFT PLASTIC TAILS ON SWIMBAITS.. THEY DONT LAST BUT 1 or 2 FISH PERIOD.

Dave the Gill thing is just a theory. I dont know how the heck I did it but something throws that design off balance yet keeps it in the water if that makes sense. But you were right its a square bill lip that hunts the best on that body.. However some of the deep divers I have made out of the same body hunt just not as dramatic as the square shallow runners do. not going to post any pictures.. but if you look at my site im sure you will figure out the bait it is.. you have seen it before in the gallery.. However the HOOCHIEMOMMA is still my favorite! So you all can take your huntin happy crankbaits and go kill a duck, bear, deer or possum with them... I got hogs to catch and those big girls already know about your JEDI WAYS that make crankbaits HUNT. BUT, THEY CANT RESIST SOMETHING as PURDY AS A HOOCHIEMOMMA that goes clack a lacka hog moetacka!

I got a bait I made where I tried to carve flaired out gills on the lure.. one of the gills is bigger than the other because IM RIGHT HANDED, Blind and it was made by hand. I molded that design and now they all hunt. WHY? I dont have a clue.. they just hunt and catch fish. My guess is that the bigger gill is pushing water and causing it to run off balance and throw off the action under the water.. I compare this to NASCAR Drafting. IF you ever notice those cars at Super Speedways how the draft effect the movement from the in car camera shots.. That is the main reason HANDMADE baits are KNOW FOR HUNTING ACTIONS.. they arent made by a machine and they just arent perfectly balanced.. no matter how hard we try to make them perfect. A good bait that hunts wobbles left right left right in perfect harmony and doesnt flip over.. but itm must not track in a straight line back to the fisherman.. the bait I made that hunts tracks in a zig zag track line back to the both while it wobbles left right in harmony. Basically a hunting crankbait is a walk the dog wobblin crankbait. BUT HERE IS WHAT I BELIEVE THE MOST... You catch the most fish on the baits you use the most. The Rookie.

"by thirtyacre86 » Tue Mar 09, 2010 6:40 pm hand made custom painted lures are always waaayy too expensive i feel. the rookies lures are definitely no exception. " I believe our Friend here on TU wants to be a CRITIC from his posted this on the Tackletour forum.. I came across this post a while back or someone told me about it... "In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face, is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so." QUOTE FROM RATATOULLIE ANY ONE CAN MAKE A FISHING LURE. YOUR RIGHT IM LIVING PROOF! ..Just like anyone can be a critic! Say whatever you like about my baits or this craft you have the right in this country... Just like I have the right to charge the price I want for my time and effort. BUT THE REAL REASON I WILL NEVER HELP YOU OUT AND BECAUSE YOU ASKED.. IS BECAUSE YOU DONT VALUE ALL THE HARDWORK ANY OF US ON TU DO.... I was trying to do it in a funloving way before.. butt now the CAN IS OPEN and THE WHOOPIN IS ON! DONT CALL OFF THE DOGS DINO IM ON A ROLL BABY! WHY DONT YOU COME OVER TO MY SHOP IN NC AND LET ME SHOW YOU HOW LONG IT TAKES ME TO MAKE A BAIT.. You might actually learn a thing or too BIG TIME BAIT CRITIC! -

I robbed this bookon how to paint a crankbaits by the LURE PROFESSOR from this old wine O! up at High Rock.. I think his name was Vince and he had this monkey that was slappin him in the face tryin to wake him up.. So the monkey and the book came home with me.. he was drunk and laid out on the docks and that's the last I ever saw of this man.. But he did leave alot of notes on how to paint crackle marble finishes in that same book.. I WONDER IF HE IS STILL ALIVE or DEAD! As for the foiling... I eat alot of left over fried pickles. They are about the size of my......... FISHING LURES. -
Steve.. great stuff!
