  1. I have the Harborfreight and the AirStar V. THe Airstar is almost silent and you can hear the Harborfreight but I wouldn't call it loud ........ shoot .... if you are near a Harborfreight store ..... ask them if you can plug in the display to hear how loud it is ..........
  2. I have one and you can hear it but it is not loud ......... It is louder than the Air Star V I have ...... but that is virtually silent ......
  3. after you cut it ......... melt it and pour it into some muffin tins coated with some high heat PAM to make ingots for future casting .......... Doesn't sound like pure lead ....... may have alot of other stuff in it ...... good luck and have fun
  4. You won't find bettter deals than the Badger Garage Sale ....... the 360 will probably do everything you need for @ $30 or you can run the gambit by getting a SOTAR, 360 and 155 for @$150. Keep a close watch because they sometimes have compressors but they go VERY quickly ....... I got 3 Air Star V's for $75 ......... wanted more but as I said ....... thet went fast ........ If you can't wait then Harbor freight has a decent ont for under $100 ...... $60 on sale I think .......... you want an auto shut off, quiet, at leqast 30 lbs pressure but 50 would be better ........ and regulator and moisture filters
  5. Mark ...... buddy ......fellow tacklemaker ......... please ...... give me a chance .......... the airbrushes just arrived on Tuesday ........ haven't had a chance to do anything yet .......... definitely not afraid and can't wait to play with them ......... I've been checking out instructional websites while I have been waiting ..........
  6. Nope ........ just a beginner ....... but I figure at those prices I should be able to sell 6 of them the Air Brushes for a profit after the sale is finished and make enough to pay for the 3 that I keep ......... in addition I was also able to buy 3 older model Air Star 5 compressors for $25 each because I saw them as soon as they came on the website ......... and they go for around $240 each ..........so, I figure I will probably have at least 1 SOTAR, 1 or 2 360's and 1 155 and either 1 or 2 compressors basically for free ......... and I can learn with the different ones to see what I like the best for me ......... it seemed like a win win situation to me .......
  7. go to howtoairbrush.com ........they have a lot of good tips and tutorials ......... they recommend water with food coloring or India Ink. They say DO NOT buy the cheap airbrush paints or other paints and try to run them thru the airbrushes because airbrush pigment is ground finer than regular paint or cheap airbrush paint so thinning still doesn't work well ........... I don't know because I'm still a TOTAL novice ........ just repeating what the website said ...got all the equipment ....... just haven't painted yet
  8. 1) Experience 2) Expertise 3) Knowledge a) Tackle you are making The business itself C) Supplies and Suppliers d) others who can provide help and Ideas 4) Equipment Good luck guy ....... keep the enthusiasm Plenty of people here to give you ideas and tips and to help with the equipment. As far as airbrushes ....... as someone said Badger is having a Garage sale ...... I know .... I bought 9 airbrushes and 3 compressors ....... probably the most versatile for you would be the 360. It uses 1 needle from wide to pencil line, external mix, is both gravity fed and jar fed. You will need a compressor. If you have one for tool use now, you can probably use it. Must be set for max 50 lbs. You will need an Air brush hose (best with a filter) and paints ........ It really depends on what you are making as to what really you need. Good Luck Rick
  9. Move to Maryland/Virginia We haven't had more than a couple of inches all year and they are catching stripers in the Chesapeake Bay ....... bigguns ........... sorry to hear you guys cooped up all winter ....... but hey ....... you should have plenty of new lures come spring ........
  10. How do you apply powder paints with a brush ........ I would not have thought that was possidle because of the heat necessary to mely the paint .......
  11. Nothing ......... infact I will tie a bunch of dropper flies in the creamy color but I'm just use to the bright white. Using bleach is ok with me but will it damage the hair in any way and is there a dilution I should use .........
  12. I just bought a bunch of deer hair that I like ....... it's nice and long ..... just what I need for salteater lures. However when I got it home, I noticed that it was more of a creamy white instead of the pure white. THe question is how do I get it pure white ...... Thanks Rick
  13. I'm new to it also but I have friends that use them and have bought them. You may want to go to the Badger website. They have a short tutorial on the airbrushes and wht is what. That said, here are the things I looked for. You want a dual action (you adjust the air and paint flow through the 1 button on top) external mix (don't know why) airbrush that you can do everything from fine to wide without changing needles. To do larger areas you should have a bottom feed (uses a jar for the paint) for smaller amounts of color and fine painting you probably want a gravity feed (small cone on top for paint) because it is less weight and less bulky and you can make finer strokes. My friends use and bought mainly the Model 360 because you can use the bottom and gravity feeds with it and they like them. I covered the gambit ....... I bought the 155, 360 and the Sotar. This will allow me to use the 155 for a base coat then add a second color with the 360 and if I want to go REALLY fine I can use the Sotar ........ and what I don't like I can sell on EBAY for at least as much as I paid for it ......... You should buy a kit if you can that has the hose and jars (if bottom fed). You will also need a means to power it. Either a compressor or a propellant can. You can either buy an airbrush compressor or use a regular compressor set to around 50 lbs max. Badger may have some compressors coming up in the future. They did have some a little while ago but they went VERY quickly so you have to keep an eye out and be prepared to act quickly. Good Luck Rick

    optic eyes

Has anyone tried to put a small Tritium vial between 2 pieces of fiber as a light source?
  16. Buddy's of mine and I have ordered 14 Airbrushes and are waiting for the compressors .......
  17. WAY TO GO TUBEMAN !!!!!!!! WAY TO GO !!!!!! Now where can I buy some ..........
  18. Anybody interested in a good air compressor ........ watch the Badger Garage Sale closely tomorrow ........... It's down now but should be back up tomorrow with some great deals on compressors ......... very limited quantities so keep a close watch ..........

  20. Hey thanks for the post ........ I REALLY went overboard and ordered 6 .......
  21. Can you melt down and recast Berkley's gulp without affecting or changing it's potency? Many times bluefish will bite off tails of a bait ruining it in it's present form but it could save a bunch of cash f they could be recast without affecting the potency of the scent.
  22. Just recieved my Harbor Freight Sale paper. It had a 6 port airbrush so you could paint up to 6 different colors by using 6 different airbrushes from the same source. Has anybody used one of these? How do you like it?
  23. Hey Thanks David .......... I will let you know if I find something and of course lie me know if you find something. Lately I saw some popper hooks and I wonder if they are the same thing as the dropshot hooks and if not what the differences are. I haven't investigated further if they make them in heavier gauge wire or larger sizes but it looked interesting Thanks Rick
  24. I have one from CSI too ........ It did not work very well because I couldn't figure out how to keep the spinnerbait blade hot long enough to get the blade out of the oven and sprayed. Anyone else have the same problem ........
  25. I use a rotissere toaster oven. It is much higher than the standard toaster oven and can handle both the fresh water and the large saltwater spire point jigheads. I use the rack that it comes with to hang the jigs for curing.
