Hi guys . I have removed the paint on several lures . I want to finish the lures with transparent green and blue flake. The question is -" Can I use a base coat of fast dying clear laquer?" I don't care if it yellows, just want the paint and devcon to adhere properly. Many thanks! ps. I use createx paint.

Well my results with this product are as follows: I dipped the lure and let dry @ 90degrees for 8hrs. Re-dipped, dried another 8hrs. Let the lure set 36hrs@ room temperature. The finish dryed with no bubbles and was fairly coated, crystal clear. Hardness? You could press a thump nail into it and leave a mark, didn't even back out. I then submerged the lure in regular tap water for 10 hrs room temperature. The finish had softened some but not terribly. What do I think of this finish? Not suitable for those who invest time into producing a quality paint job or for those who sell to customers. I wouldn't trust it. However, if you are doing you're own work and fish them , It may be ok for you. I for one am too picky and I want my paint job to last as long as possible whether I fish them or sell them. My wife seems to find out about my little experiments somehow and has informed me that the finish would be great on our trim in the living room,,,,,,,hmmmmmmmmm. Oh well, I tried even though some had warned me, I told ya so's may be warranted. Next project, Uv medium pressure mercury lamp. Look out! Have fun guys.

Well I dipped one a few hours ago guys , put it in the hot box for the night. When its cured I'm going to let my jack russell chew on it for a while and then submerge it in the tank for a day or two. Sounds like fun, at least for spazz. (my dog) I'll post back in a few days,enjoy the weekend all!

Thanks for the reply. I did buy some today and it was cheaper than I thought @ $58.00 a gallon. I'll be giving it a try soon over createx and I will post a follow up on it. By the way, Sherwin Williams Rexthane(@85.00) seems to be very similar to dick nites product. If this doesn't work out I will propably give it a try although it seems that the shelf life is questionable and you really have to watch how you handle it as with any moisture cured solvent based urethane. Any tips on that would be greatly appreciated from anyone!!!!!!!!!Also , I am interested in Sherwin Williams products only because I have a freind that works for them and I get his discount. thanks for the imput guys. I now have an $85 dollar delema. I may go ahead and try. If I do I'll post the results whether its a nicely finished lure or a really shiney garage floor, thanks again.

I picked up a couple of used micro-waves at the thrift store for next to nothing. The motors are easy to take out and easy to adapt for the most part. If you do pick one up , ask to plug it in first to check the turning motor first.

Hey guys! I was looking at this one part water base urethane industial floor coating called armorseal 1k. Its low VOC , the company says that it does'nt yellow and its totally water resiliant. I talked to the rep and he said it should be ok for dipping. Just wondering if any one has had any expirience, or heard anything about this clear finish, thanks in advance.

I occasionaly use Pelon. You can get it at wal-mart . Buy the thicker stuff. Its not what I'd use if I were going to make a bunch of the same pattern but it sure is easy to cut.Simply insert your blade(you don't have to bare down on hard) and move the pelon along the lines of your pattern. ps. the guys are right , don't start out with a complicated stencil.

Hi BJ ! Do you brush or dip the crackle on? I have had some success with the folk art medium but I just kinda poured it on , let it dry until it was just slightly tacky and sprayed on a thicker than average coat of createx. I crackled pretty well but I have no real technique for it yet. Any help wound be great, thanks.

NItro, I agree with BobP. Laquers are awesome paints but the toxic affect is a real concern. If you do use laquers take all correct measures for your health and saftey. Laquer fumes are a real threat, take that VERY SERIOUSLY, read the threads, and ask alot of questions. I use createx and some wasco paints , but you still need ventilation.

HI guys! 70 degrees in leavenworth kansas today, wow! Hey I was wondering if anyone could give me help for painting stripes on a bait such as a blue gill pattern with scale in the stripe.And, I was wanting to know the best way to paint fairly close stripes on a lure like on some old bagleys that don't look stenciled. My hands are a little shakey and free hand is out of the question. I do use an airbrush. Thanks for anything you have in advance. Ed

hi fellers, I've been painting my own stuff for a few years but I'll be darned if I can create a good stencil beyond making gills and spots. I've tried the stencil making material from the craft stores and it works fine but when it comes to making one for the body on a curved bait I have a real problem. Since its going to be spring soon I wanted to make a craw fish pattern on some wiggle warts I have so I wanted to ask some of you guys how to go about it before I screw up another paint job. PS> do any of you guys use a special holder for the bait, like a fly tying rig when painting. Many thanks, Ed.
