  1. Atlasstone, Thanks for the feedback on that other design. I have a 50 gallon Aquarium 12x48x20. that I have been contemplating trying to build a test tank for quite some time. I just wasn't sure how to go about it so I was very happy to see yours when you posted it. My idea was to have the water flow from one end of the tank to the other by using a flat piece at each end with many matching holes drilled In both pieces. I was going to let the pump push the water out behind one end between the aquarium wall and the false end wall with holes , hoping that it would flow through the holes to the other false end and through its holes then have a return pipe pick up the water behind this end piece. I have not tried it yet but am wondering if i could get enough flow with this design. and not have a lot of turbulence. I bought a 1250 GPH hr pump but it is a livewell pump which I think would work well with this design if I can get enough flow. Any thoughts? John
  2. Here is another design which I found on youtube, a totally different approach but does the job well.
  3. I have used Alumilite in a Do-It mold. Sometimes I have torn the alumilite casting apart getting it out of the mold. coating the cavity with Vegetable oil helped to make it a little easier to remove and I have not tried it using the dry graphite spray which Might be a better option. another thing is that it always left a residual film which coated the the mold cavity and after several castings all the small details of the castings were no longer discernible. then came the process of scraping and cleaning out the cavity. A real P.I.A. By the way, I was using the Ultra Minnow Mold to make my Bama/Tennessee Rigs.

    Gold Paint?

You can also mix very fine gold glitter in your epoxy clear coat. this gives a very shiny gold finish. John

i second what Ben says. I am surprised that the silver or white belly shows up that purplish color in the water. I like that. What do yuo use to accomplish that. John
  8. Hello Mark. Very neat, simple engineering and using the old noggin for what it was intended. Good idea on bending those ears to get the flat stable bottom. Merry Christmas. John
  9. Dave, that was the ultimate in efficiency. I think that was an ingenious idea, how you made the body curves match the curve of your belt sander. Thanks for posting. John

  11. Hey guys, I too am having the same problem, I don't know what this means but yesterday Redg8r posted the following about this problem it was an answer to this same question in "The Docks Forum". Maybe you computer Gurus can explain it so that people like me can understand it. TU is getting pounded by spambots atm. Pretty smart, given they expect staff to be out for the holidays. over 1200 registrations blocked today alone and theyre still trying, all different IP's Our spam monitoring service is working, as none have gotten thru, but it is taking up alot of resources to do so. I'm watching the server and making adjustments as necessary, you may see sporadic downtime while I reboot services. sorry, but its about all I can do for now.
  12. Have a Blessed and happy Thanksgiving every one.

    Woods?

Mark, well said. I don't think you are being defensive at all nor are you putting down wood in any way. But pointing out the positives of using PVC versus wood is a very helpful thing for those of us who don't have much time to invest in their lure-building hobby. I for one appreciate your talking about the worthy characteristics of PVC and how it has solved some of the problems for you especially time. Probably had I not read all your posts, I would have never gave it a chance. None of my lures nor my painting/carving skills compare to the talented people on TU (I would like to get that good some day) but, my time spent on lure building is very limited so PVC is my friend and the fish don't seem to mind at all whether it is wood or plastic. I use the PVC trim board and balsa. Again I appreciate that you have talked about how much faith you have in the PVC, it encouraged me to give it a try. John
  14. Well, I just thought I had screwed something up. I tried all day to figure out what I had done and it finally fixed itself. Glad to hear it wasn't me afterall.

    Crazy eyes

Vic, I think the eyes turned out nice and your chosen colors on this one look great. As usual, your top coat is superb.
  18. Mark, I have made a lot of weighted hooks using the Do-It lure body mold. I have had to do a little Dremmeling on it to get the hooks to fit. I think this is the most useful and versatile mold that I have ever owned. It just might be what you are looking for.

    Rod's Craw

Thanks for posting the pic of the craw worm. You enhanced its colors tremendously and adding the craw claws on the bib takes it to another level. This is one that really gets my attention, I think it will get the fish's attention as well. It did come to life. Hope you don't mind, I copied this image, if I ever become just half good at painting I would like to give this one a try. Thanks for sharing. John
