I agree completely with you on this hook and it is very reasonably priced. John

Thanks Mark for that tip on the blades, I will give that a try. John

I used to get the super stainless forms in the stainless steel color from Barlows. They quit carrying them for some reason for several years. a couple of years ago they came back out with it but in the camo pattern. Barlows sells it in a 25 ct pkg for $6.62. I like the camo wire as well if not better than the original shiny wire. Hope this is of some help. John

Thanks Ben, not sure that I deserved it but I was fortunate enough to have a job which provided a retirement and I am very thankful for it. As far as having my priorities straight, my better half helps me out with that one. She is a good one and has been with me for 44 years. I would hate to see where I might have gone without her. OK, enough of me and back to tackle building. Last night I woke up in the middle of the night and started thinking about soft swim-baits. This may already be out there but I am thinking about a long spinner bait frame with the lower arm being 6 to 10 inches long and the upper blade arm being the same length as a regular spinner bait frame. I think this set-up would look like (to a Bass) a larger fish chasing a minnow and might help to trigger a reaction bite. I will probably have to use .051 wire for this to keep it from getting bent up. Will try to get this done today will post a pic if I make it. John

Hey Mark, are you using these in daylight or for night fishing? A long time ago maybe 35 years (i was about 30 back then), I painted a deep little n all over with glow paint. I remember thinking what a genius and how smart I was for thinking of this I went fishing with a friend and was throwing it in very clear water at night. He laughed at me for this one. Nothing touched it. You could see the glow of it from the beginning of the retrieve and all the way back. It looked like a spotlight on a submarine coming toward the boat. I was determined to catch a fish on it and threw it about all night. I think it was way over powered and the fish were very afraid of it. My friend caught several bass that night so it was not a slow bite. He still occasionally reminds me of this one whenever I think I have another great idea. This was probably one of my first tinkerings with a bait. I am glad it didn't make me give up.

Hi Mark, I have never used the super glow powder, But I have used some glow powder that was made for mixing in grout it glows rather nicely when mixed in epoxy and applied over a white base coat. I have to be careful about mixing in too much of the powder because it makes the epoxy thick and hard to apply. I got this stuff along with silver, gold, and multi colored/iridescent pearl glitter and all of it extra fine size at Home Depot on close-out. It didn't sell very well here in the hills. I here good things about glo nation brand super glo paints and powder paints. They are advertise to glow between 6 and 12 hours depending on color chosen. I don't think their powder is for heating and dipping, but is supposed to be mixed in with a clear coat. Good luck with this one. I am interested in how it turns out. I have been thing about ordering some of the glo nation paint in different colors and painting a smidgen of it on some spinnerbaits. John

Thanks V-Man, I am semi-retired already, six weeks vacation started mar. 13th today is the start of the third week. the first two were full of activities around the house and I didn't mind. I feel good when I get up now and unlike going to work I am actually enjoying taking care of business. I have put off a lot of things that needed doing simply because I am getting older and more tired than I used to be when I was younger today I have been burning brush and working in the garden. Soon, I will be hoeing, weeding and picking/digging the veggies. Also, I have made a few spinnerbaits for me, a friend and the grandson. I am adjusting quite nicely and do not think that I will become a couch potato. I also have three grandchildren whom will get some attention the littlest one was born on my birthday last year. He and I will celebrate his 1st. and my 64th in June. I know that this has nothing to do with making baits but just want to thank everyone for all the excellent advice and the good wishes. I hope to be spending a little more time on TU and devote more time to tackle making. Thanks again to all the good and encouraging people that belong to TU. John

Hello smalljaw, and I was also wrong. you are correct, its proper name is as you said shallow cup willows. I called it a slow willow blade, its been a while since I have used them. Thanks. John

I do as the Dave does, school stick glue. Simple, easy and almost no mess. John
-
Thanks guys. I wasn't sure I would make it but I am getting very close and I am really looking forward to it. 45+ years of working 6 days a week, so I am planning on enjoying what I have left on this earth and will try to use it wisely but I am not a smart man and am sure I will waste some time in the man cave John

I design my lips using the paint program on my computer I make half of a bib then copy and paste, flip it horizontally then move it beside the first half merging the top, bottom and center lines, this gives me a perfectly symmetrical bib. Like Archeryrob I glue these to my lexan or circuit board, cut them out and sand down to the lines. I don't sell them so I have no need for being fast and efficient when making them but am very happy with the results. John

Hey guys, I went down to Rob's (JawJacker's) shop today and actually held this thing in my hand. He made it himself. I was very impressed with the things I saw. He is a very talented and versatile person and is not only a crankbait guru but makes other lures as well. If I were not so old, I would hire him to teach me the ropes. I really enjoyed my visit with him. John

You're welcome Cadman, I was hoping to become the smartest man in the world , trouble is I keep forgetting what I have already learned. John

I do, and speaking of being old , I am finally re-tiring. April 30th will be my last day of work. yipeeeeee!

I second Cadman's opinion on the wire. I have made my own from rolled wire and was not happy with them. the straight wire is better. Pre-formed are even better, but in my honest opinion the best wire out there is called super stainless pre-bent forms. Barlows tackle and LPO carries it in Camo. It is a little more expensive than the regular stainless forms but well worth the extra money. Couple that with a worth swivel and blade/blades and you'll have some of the best spinner baits you have ever used. The worth Co. makes a spinner blade called a slow willow blade. I have some of them and their regular blades in size 4.5. They do as stated. It starts spinning at a slower retrieve and also has a wider arc, (more thump) than their regular blade. It has a little less cupping than their regular willow blade. If you hold it up at just the right angle to the light you can see a slight flat spot on the top of the blade. I don't know who carries/sells the Worth blades. I bought mine direct from the Worth Co. several years ago. Hope this helps you. John

I asked this same question several years ago and received several responses on different ways to accomplish this. I found the thread and a member by the name of Lincoya/Gene gave me exactly what I was looking for. It does a nice clean job. read post #4 from Gene and post # 12 shows the simple tool I made and the results of using it beside the one I made without it. it is good to pass on one of the things I have learned here from the Guru's. Hope this helps you. John http://www.tackleunderground.com/community/topic/13057-weighting-a-bibbill/

Thanks so much, that is great news, I'll buy it. will be watching for it. John

Welcome my friend and best of luck with this new addiction.
-
John, that almost looks like a mirror. If I may ask, what do you use to polish it with? John
-
I think that turned out very well, thanks for sharing. John
-
Dieter, I too had no idea. Get well, you have my prayers and best wishes. John
-
My Thanks also Smalljaw. That is very interesting. I sincerely believe that vibration is the most important attribute of a spinnerbait.as it lets a bass know food is on its way long before they can see it. John

What was the year of the Bass Times that the article was in? I remember Wee R, but don't recall ever hearing about a V R crank.
