  6. Thanks guys for the compliments but a lot of the credit goes to Kelly. before he posted his tutorial, I used to make the hitchhiker type screw locks by twisting the wire around a drywall screw. I fish a lot of shakey heads so I made his tool, and used it for some time and every the time I used it, I kept trying to figure out how to make this type screwlock with the starter stud which makes it much easier to thread plastics onto it. It was a lot of trial and error but the light bulb finally lit up and this is the end result. John

  13. Hello Dieter, beautiful spoons! I was thinking the same thing as Spoopa should keep it diving like the bib on a crankbait. Will be interesting to see how his turns out. John

    Jigs, Shakeys or Both

I did make them and it is pretty simple. I will start a thread with pics showing how to make them. I will try to have it done by next week. You can start out by making this tool which is in the member submitted tutorial. You will need it to make the screw locks with starter studs. http://www.tackleunderground.com/forum/wire-baits-how/12471-making-consistent-screw-locks-rev-1-0-a.html This thing makes great screw locks. I have mentally thanked Kelly for posting this tutorial many many times. I made another tool similiar to his slotted screwdriver for making the screw locks with the starter stud. Now his tool serves a dual purpose for me. I can make regular screwlocks or the screw lock with a starter stud. I use .031 sst tempered wire. available in most all the tackle builder supply catalogs. If anyone doesn't want to build their own, I noticed in the new bass pro catalog, that they are selling the Owner brand of these with centering pin. They are called twistlocks I think and sell for around 41

taats a good idea mark. It is easy to make these starter stud screw locks. Do you think I should make a post showing how to make them? John

    Jigs, Shakeys or Both

Jigs, Shakey Heads or Both Not sure whether to call these jigs or shakey heads with skirts. I have been making this thing for a little while now. One of the problems I have with hitchhikers is getting the plastic started and centered on the screw. With this starter stud, that is no longer a problem. Due to the hinged cork screw which has no resistance of its own and collapses when getting bit, I think that this set-up has less interference with a hook set than when using a weed guard, especially when running the hook through the bait and skin hooking it. I first started making these with the cork screw mounted solidly in the jig head but after catching a few fish the cork screw and starter stud got bent and mangled so badly that it was practically useless. So far with this set-up that has not happened. Hope you like it. John
