Wow, that is sharp. Can't wait to see what you build a few baits from now. John
  2. Cute kid, her smile reminds me of mine when they were young. Your lures look good too. I bet those tail fins do some nice waggling. John

    New Medium!

Looks good, is that a resin product? How does it swim? John
  4. Mark is right about the fumes from super glue, ventilation is a must. It gives me one heck of a headache and really make my sinuses burn. I don't think it completely waterproofs the bait but it does make the balsa extremely hard and durable. Check this out, it is a better buy If you want to buy in larger sized bottles. National Balsa Co. - CA Glue and accessories
  5. Looks good, nice clean hinge slots too. Hope your first one does better than my first ones. I had several failures but I learned something from all of them. Hope you will keep us informed of your progress pics are nice. Good Luck with this. JohnB

    First Working Swimbaits

Here is video of baits swimming. It's not very good and doesn't do them justice since I had to hold the camera and just pull the rod. I will try to get better video tomorrow if it is not raining when we go fishing. John http://s253.photobucket.com/albums/hh72/JBlaze1952/Making%20A%20Swimbait/Three%20Swimbaits/
  8. Dieter, Liesure time? Whats that?:)I am really not that productive, matter of fact, I am kind of slow. I have a minimum of 15 hours in each one of these beginning to end. Just glad I'm not trying to make a living at it. No one would be able to afford them and I fear it would take away the joy of making them. I am taking them to the lake tomorrrow afternoon and when I get home they get put in my Gransons tackle box. Which will be given to him when he gets old enough to appreciate them. He is nine months old now so I have plenty of time to fill it up with special stuff. Jamie, I should have been a little more clear but I posted this thing backwards. The PVC bait in the picture with three baits is bait #2. Also the one on the rock by itself in the gallery pictures is #2 bait. If it had not worked, I was not going to post at all because bait #1 would have been just a dumb luck thing. But since it did swim I think this is the right shape and form for this small bait. So I posted both at the same time. I started on a different shaped and smaller bait this morning. It is only 2

    decoys for spearing

Get out the skillet!!!!!!!!! Oops we're not supposed to eat those:whistle: Nice Job, it needs a couple of treble hooks.
  10. Hang in there Pete, seeing the beauty of your lures, the paint schemes you do, the incredible contraptions you have made/invented and processes that you have came up with for getting things done, tells me you are a man with lots of perseverence. You and a few others are the ones that go that extra mile to create and freely share with others what you know and have learned. Learning from you fellows has been a blessing to me. Hopefully, I will be able to pass on to others what I have learned instead of guarding it like gold and having that knowledge lost when I die. By the way, looking forward to seeing more of your stuff in the future. John

    First Working Swimbaits

V-Man I think it was the tapering of the sides of the body from first joint to head and first joint to tail. One of the post that was made by Snax had a set of 6 rules for making a successful swimbait. That was one of them and it worked for me. The single joint Balsa lure was the lure from the thread titled "A Different Hinge" It was another dud until I put a bib in it as suggested by JR Hopkins in recent post.
  12. Ok, all you swim bait gurus. As many of you know by now I have been trying to make a working/swimming swim bait for quite some time. I think I have followed every thread and post that mentioned swim baits or hinges. I

    First Working Swimbaits

This is the first swimbaits that I have been able to get to swim. I am really surprised at how easy the PVC was to work with. Many thanks to everyone for all the tips and advice. TU Rocks! I made a couple of videos of these. It is poor quality but it shows them swimming. I will try to get it up in the forum later tonight. John

Don't know how I missed seeing this one. Babababababa baaad bad to the bone! That is really nice. It ought to get clobbered. John B
  16. I keep mine in a one quart mason jar. the wide mouth makes it easy to dip the baits instead of brushing it on. John

    Walleye Swimbait

    First swimmer

Like him said! (Mark) Good Job. John
  19. Don't give up on the three segment lure. Thanks to the combined advice from all of the experts on TU, I finally put a three segment lure together that swims and swims well. A three segment lure with no lip is do-able. It is a little over four inches long with hinges.. Will be posting a video of it very soon. John
  20. Looks nice, I bet it works. Those smaller baits aren't easy. I think jrhopkins suggestion on tapering the nose is good advice. That is what it took to get a swimmer for me. Looking forward to seeing your finished product. John
  21. love that fluid motion. looking forward to seeing the finished product. John

    "Small" 4in swim bait

Looks like it aims to go out and kick some poor ole fishes butt. Nice Job. About the hinges, don't know which John you got the idea from but I am sure that if he didn't want anyone to build on the idea, he would not have posted them for all to see. Hope to see some more of these bad boys. John B
  23. That is one wicked looking crappie. Thats Incredible!
  24. Great tip on the bubble reduction, first time I've heard that one.
