  1. Pop, Are you looking for wire to make your baitholders with? The little spring that will extend from the chin of your shaky heads? If this is what you are referring to, you might try buying some of the 'hitchhikers' from Stamina. They are already preformed. Order the 'medium' ones as the larger ones wont fit in the Do-It football head mold.
  2. First, let me thank you for your post on "Making Shaky Heads with a Do-It Football Mold". Bought the mold, been pouring the shaky heads and catching some fish. My question is this - some of my buddies would like to have some smaller size shaky heads. The smallest size I can pour with the football head mold is 1/4oz. I see where Do-It also has a weedless round head mold that has cavities in smaller sizes (1/8, 3/16 & 1/4). Do you know if the round head mold will also accept the 'standard' Hitchhiker spring/worm lock in the place of the fiber weedgaurd? I have been ordering my 'hitchhikers' from Stamina. The only sizes that I see in their catalog and on their website is 'medium' and 'large' - I dont see a 'small' listed for sale. I have been using the 'medium' ones in my football mold. The roundhead mold that I want to buy calls for a "FG-30" weedgaurd and the football mold that I have calls for a "FG-12". The FG-30, which fits the roundhead mold that I want to buy, has dimensions of a 1/8 base and length of 1-3/4. The FG-12, which fits the football mold I have, has dimensions of 5/68 base and length of 1-3/8. If I have my math right, the FG-12 weedgaurd (football) is smaller than the FG-30 (roundhead)???? Is this right??? Just seems backwards that as I am trying to decrease the size of the cavities for the lead, and at the same time, the size of the weedgaurd is getting larger????? Somebody tell me I'm wrong :-) Anybody know???? Anybody got some other tricks up their sleeve? :-)
  3. I've been curing mine in my outdoor gas grill. I just turn on one of the two burners and keep them flame as low as possible. Hang my jigs on some of the upper 'warmer' racks in the grill. Let em cook for about 30 minutes. Not sure if this is the optimum method but it seems to work o.k. and I didn't have to spend any money on a toaster overn.
  4. Few More: Matzuo 9014 9044 9024 9064 Owner 5318 Eagle Claw 570 574 575 Mustad 32746 32756 32831 VMC 9147 Gamakatsu 114 604??? I think that about covers the spectrum of jig hook manafacturers. Thanks for all your help guys and if anyone else has any others that they know will fit, please send them along.
  5. Added one more that I had left out: Owner 5318 Eagle Claw 570 574 575 Mustad 32746 32756 32831 VMC 9147 Gamakatsu 114 604??? Anyone else have this mold and know of some hooks that will fit without modification of the mold?
  6. Thanks for the help Elken. So here's my "new" revised list: Eagle Claw 570 574 575 Mustad 32746 32756 32831 VMC 9147 Gamakatsu 114 604??? Anyone else have this mold and know of some hooks that will fit without modification of the mold?
  7. Thanks for the help MDC. So here's a list of the hooks I know will fit this mold: Eagle Claw 570 575 Mustad 32746 32756 VMC 9147 Gamakatsu 114 604??? Anyone else have any experience with this mold and the hooks that will fit?
  8. I tried that but I still can't quite figure it out (I'm sorta a novice at this). When I went to Barlows, they have the Eagle Claw 570 and 575 classified as a "Regular Wire Jig Hooks" but they don't have any Gamaktsu's or Owners classifed as "Regular Wire Hooks". They only have Gamakatsu's and Owners in the "Heavy Duty Jig Hooks". The "regular Wire Hooks" are shown with the corresponding wire diameter's as measured on a 1/0 hook while the "Heavy Duty Wire Hooks" are shown with their corresponding wire diameter as measured on a 4/0 hook which, for me, makes comparison's a little difficult. Hate to spend $30 on a box of Gamakatsu's or Owners only to receive them and find that they dont fit my mold so any help is appreciated.
  9. The Do-It weedless football jig mold (FBW-4-AF) calls for a 3/0 or 4/0 hook in style 570 or 575. The 570 and 575 hook styles are Eagle Claws. Does anyone know if there is an Owner or Gamakatsu hook that will fit this mold and if so, what are the model/hook style numbers?
  10. Those are some great photos. Thanks for sharing.
  11. H2Fishing Your post made my finally break down and purchase the football mold and a pot. Received my delivery yesterday and went straight to the garage. Took me about 5 minutes and I was making Shaky Heads. Dipped em in some green pumpkin powder paint and the look AWESOME. If anyone out there fishes alot of shaky heads, get the mold and give it a try.
  12. Cool. Viewed the football head in the gallery. Thanks so much for sharing. Never poured myself but have been 'toying' with the idea. You may be my inspiration to buy a mold and get started. Getting tired of paying $5 for 5 Spot Removers.
