  1. those look great......the only thing is, I might have a problem fumbling around with the foil on 1/4 oz (small) lure bodies.....but it sounds easier than copper, nickel, silver!
  2. With brass lure bodies getting more and more spendy....im just wondering if a person can plate lead bodies (I have a lure body mold) with silver or any other metal.....anyone? thanks
  3. Instead of borrowing a friends, im looking to get my own lead pot for jig making. Besides looking on Ebay, does any online retaillers have good prices for a 5 or 10 lb pot? thanks
  4. I am looking for a 3-5" size worm (s) in bubblegum pink color (or something very similar) for steelhead. If the price is right, I would be willing to buy several hundred because I know friends that use them and we are tired of paying $5 a bag of 10 for 'fancy' worms. Anyway, if you are interested and can supply what im looking for, lets talk, blackdoglures@yahoo.com thanks Russ
  5. I have an Iwata Revolution and its real nice, gravity feed is the way to go.
  6. been looking for the samething myself for over 6 months now........dont think they exist. Best bet might be to have a mold custom made for one.
  7. wheel weights work OK but they do have about 10% tin/antimony in them, which makes it pretty hard. Plus u have to skim off the metal clips and any paint or dirt on the weights too. Its pretty messy but you can get good deals if you dont mind casting hard lead (it doesnt matter for most sinkers).
  8. So how much is the silicone stuff for making a mold and the foam, ball park.....? And where is a good place to get it from. thanks
  9. im looking to get some stiff mylar to make wings for drift floats (ie spin-n-glow, winged cheaters, etc).....anyone know where to get it? Ive checked a lot of craft stores online but cant seem to find anything that will work. thanks
  10. I just use a dremel with a small grinding or drill bit.........do about 250 at a time and it works great
  11. buy a pair of side cutters at the dollar store and grind down the sides with a dremel so they are more sharp.......bingo~ $1 gate shears
  12. yeah id get one of those 1/2 respirators that take cartridges. I think that would work for any lead fumes, then your safety glasses, and work in a well ventillated area. And yes wash your hands afterwards. That should do it.
  13. I use VMCs standard on my salmon spinners (30-40lb fall chinooks not uncommon) with Owners avail as upgrades. I think either are great, VMCs sharpened with a file will hold up real good and you can re-sharpen them. While in my experience Gami's and Owners cant really be sharpened because the steel is so hard. VMCs are probably 1/3 the cost of either also......but I still think they are a quality hook. Better than Eagle Claw or Mustad
  14. Im going to be buying a few jigs molds, ive looked on ebay but for the ones I want they usually go for more than retail!! Normal prices I see are around $30-$35 for new molds......I was just wondering if anyone has bought some for less anywhere. thanks!
  15. do you think there is any diff between it and a cheap air brush? (besides not having a needle in it) ?
  16. Anyone have one of the Powder Spray Guns like CS shows here ?http://www.csipaint.com/powderspray.htm Im just wondering if its a cheapie air brush or if there is something special about it for PP use. It looks just like the low end air brushes that Harbor Freight sells.......
  17. if ur not using much, try sling shot ammo.......steel round balls, and they come in 1/4" and 3/8" size usually.
  18. Im looking for someone to mold me some pink bubblegum color worms (or similar) for steelhead. Doesnt have to be anything special, but a round worm, tapered at the end, at least 3" long would be great. email me if youre interested, thank you Russ russell@blackdoglures.com
  19. There has been a few versions of that but they have different names.....so I dont know how 'different' one would have to be in the design. I think if it was similar but called a different name that would be OK. Just like there is "Stee-Lee" brand spoons but you can buy the same thing in 'generic' form from Lakeland or other places, they are just called something else. But yeah a person would have to watch that
  20. okies are spendy......they sometimes go for around $1 EACH on Ebay. Thats why I wanted to make some of my own
  21. ok so the SIlicon is what makes the mold? and then use the resin or expandable foam for the body? Sorry I have never done any of this casting so its new to me........is the expandable foam very expensive? Does it stay soft of harden up on the outside? Im just trying to figure the cost per.....most popular sizes of these are about the size of a marble. thanks
  22. They are called Okie's or Oakie's......they are very popular for steelhead or salmon fishing out here in the NW. They havent been made for many years. They are hard plastic type outside and foam inside (they float high)....with a hole thru the middle for the leader. I am thinking a person could make some molds and then pour in some of this fancy lure plastic I see you guys talking about......the most important thing is that it would have to be airy (light) and float. For you guys with experience in this (I have none) is this possible?? thanks! Russ
