  1. Correct - just buy them in the store!
  2. Never a problem using heavy salt in a Presto Pot w/ stirrer from Bears
  3. What size injector are you using? Are you using a presto pot w/ stirrer from Bears to keep the salt in suspension? You should have a medium injector. Inject slowly then hold light pressure on the injector for 10 seconds after the cavities are filled. After removing the injector top off each cavity w/ hot plastic from the injector. Who's injection stick mold are you using? Bears,Delmart,Bass tackle, Call the MFG. of the mold if you are still having problems
  4. I started out by selling to tackle shops. Respectfully, the shops I dealt with years ago wanted 40% off of your retail price and then you,as a manufacturer ,must pay Uncle Sam 10% on gross sales.( 10% excise tax) That totals 50% off which leaves an extremely small profit before expenses for the small ,custom manufacturer.Needless to say,I no longer sell to tackle shops.
  5. This topic has been talked about many times. Simply stated, injection permits you to shoot many different styles of baits- including twp-color w/ small appendages and thin tails. Hand pouring may be considered an art form by some and so it is but as a commercial producer,it's just too time consuming w/ many caveats- (mainly consistency) associated with the task.
  6. I've worked w/ two of them for almost 2 weeks. Filling them above 1/2 full is an accident waiting to happen. That said,I've filled them w/in 1" of the top and would never do that again. They are just too soft and pliable I use them only to fill medium injectors for two color injecting.
  7. I use the disposable mask. They seem to last a long time but I can't be specific. I updated my exhaust booth and don't use the mask very ofter any more. I just wipe out the inside w/ Listerine before every use.

  9. Use some Flitz w/a soft rotary pad on a Dremel Tool http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=flitz+polish&tag=googhydr-20&index=aps&hvadid=1421102427&ref=pd_sl_193ftxmf30_e
  10. I wonder- with all the custom pouring West coast guys, they would come here? Did Don Iovino move or are they looking for a c-h-e-a-p price?
  11. "Copyright the name ... get all the distribution you can and go far it ." With all due respect , you'll need to get a registered Trademark of the name to protect it.
  12. I just worked a bit w/ this cup this evening. I like the cup but would not fill it up to a full 2 cup volume. I'm going to order another as they are perfect for 1 + cup mixes for 2 color injecting.
  13. Be careful w/ water based scents as they can make the plastic boil. You can use them but add sparingly to hot plastisol.
  14. This is very true-UNLESS 1- your sell to a store w/your label on them and the store gets audited. 2- a jealous competitor makes a phone call and the I.R.S. investigates - they have a way of making your life extremely uncomfortable after they knock on your door. There is basically no limit to penalties and interest if they find intent to commit fraud. 3- your suppliers keep sales records and may get audited- especially over excise tax and exemptions and that my friend is a fact.Even though you don't have Form #673 on file w/ your suppliers, you may get investigated for what they consider an abnormal amount of component purchases for a hobby-or if you use a business name to make these purchases to obtain a discount.
  15. Both colors must be the exact same in temperature and viscosity.-350-370degrees. Then, just as Frank suggested, both injectors must have even pressure placed on them and depress evenly and smoothly.
  16. Jim I think you misunderstood me. Let's say you come out w / a new, unique soft-bait that is a hot producer and is in demand. You do not have a design patent on your bait. Now I come out ,copy the bait and try to get a patent on it and they file against you for infringement. That's not happening legally since you created and sold the bait commercially before i ever came into the picture. A manufacture must have the market demand and ability to produce 1,000's a week to cover the expenses of obtaining the patent and then defending it. Like you have stated, the small manufacturer doesn't have to financial resources to fight the big manufacturers. R.I. has the name Sweet Beaver trademarked. I think is rather foolish for people to use that name on their product since you are liable for a trademark infringement. I believe R.I. has filed a suit against B.P.S. and Strike King lures for infringement. I'm very interested to see how the Net bait design patent infringement turns out.. Someone is going to be "on the hook" for some astronomical legal fees if they fight this out in court and loose. Al
  17. You don't need a high $ patent lawyer to prove your original date of sale of your unique product. Case closed before it even goes to step 2.
  18. There is a flip side to all of this-if you develop a unique bait and start selling it,another company cannot copy & get a design patent on that bait and stop you from selling it .
  19. You know I love borosilicate lab beakers since they will not explode like Pyrex but they are fragile when pressure is place inside of them.
  20. I have 8 mandrels and nose pieces complete for Bears 4'' ,single cavity injection tube molds. 1 3/4" nose piece w/ a 2" skirt mandrel Retail $44.00 ea---------------Sale $20.00 each plus 5.00 shipping Take all 8 mandrels-$150.00 shipped to your door PM or call 215-781-2515
  21. You're permitted to make X amount of dollars annually depending upon your specific disability. If you're donating the items then you don't have to pay the tax since there are no sales.(Where's the beef? )That said, enjoy your hobby but declare it as a business so you can deduct all of your your business related expenses against your profits. You may be surprised @ the outcome if you persevere and are successful.Uncle Sam wants his 10% excise tax on gross sales for fishing tackle manufacturers
  22. That's what they all say-UNTIL they get caught and nailed Penalties and interest from the I.R.S. can exceed the actual amount owed.
  23. The hot plastisol ate a hole in the bottom of them on the first heating session. Mine were not Sunbean but they stated microwave safe.
  24. Sounds great- then spend the $ to trademark the name on the product until are larger company w/more $ then you objects to the trademark application name that the U.S. trademark and patent office says is clean and not trademarked. That's when the legal bills really start piling up. I speak from an expensive experience A design patent- Excellent-BUT now you have to have the $ to defend the trademark and patent and that can cost mega $. They are currently trying to change the patent laws so you are protected from a foreign company. If they don't,what small company has the $ to sue a Japanese Company for a design patent infringement
  25. I spent 6k+ w/ lawyers over a trademark dispute in 1991. My trademark and patent attorney said,"We can win this if we go to court in Washington D.C." I said to him,"What will it cost?" He said 20 K I gave up and changed the name. There is no way a small company can afford legal disputing fees @ today's rates. It's downright foolish to use a trademarked name( eg:Sweet Beaver )or continue producing a bait for sale that has a registered design patent
