This one is my rendition of a golden shiner.

    shiner

I called it a shiner we have here.

    little shad

The bars on the side were painted with silver and just fogged on. When you turn it to the side, they pop. You can barely see them in the photo.
  6. I try to make my swimbaits oval, because fish are oval shaped. If it works for them.....
  7. If you know how much weight you'll be using for ballast, then why couldn't you suspend the weight with screw eyes attached. A jig of sorts to hold the ballast where it belongs while you pour the resin. Just a thought.
  8. I don't want to hi-jack the thread, but how does one go about making the edges of the foil disappear with out overloading with paint?

    Tail jerk foiled

    You make some gorgeous baits!
  10. It's all sticky Vic, just the nature of the beast. I'm not sure of the brand but it may be Devcon, I could be mistaken. I ran into the same problem but kneading a small piece the size of pea wasn't an issue. A little acetone cleaned up my fingers pretty quickly. Jerry
  11. I've used the epoxy stick and had great success with it. Just slab off a little with a knife. Cut the slab into quarters or eighths. I just put the remainder on a piece of plastic and don't worry about it. Mix as you would a large piece and get an even color once your finished mixing, press into the hole and sand off the remainder once it's hard. 10 to 15 min. tops, ready to sand. I primer my baits before I paint and the epoxy takes the primer very well. Once it's painted, ta da, you can't see the repair. Just my .02. Jerry

Just something I thought I try. I think it came out ok.

My attempt at a smallie, even with red eyes.

    Bass Pattern

This is my rendition of the bass pattern. The essence of the bass in my opinion.

    New bream pattern

I hate you guys that paint great pumpkin seeds. I just have a hard time with them. Those are awesome paint jobs.
  16. I've use the same technique as Ben. I just use a brad point bit for the size of eyes I use. Drill a small depression in the bait on either side, paint as necessary and right before finish, I add a little dollop (that is a real word?) of super glue (gel type) and install the eye. Press just hard enough to seat the eye and wait a minute or two and then finish as usual. Jerry
  17. Since the "slammer" is a wake type bait, I would do as you did on the others, just a little past center to get the maximum side to side motion. Just my .02. Jerry
  18. Vic are they the same company that makes the epoxy resin for the tabletops? I saw some in a lumber yard in the area where I work, just wondering.
  19. The only change you may have to make is the hose connection from the brush hose to the compressor hose. Just dial down the pressure to the airbrush and you should be fine. Another addition you should purchase is a moisture trap. With a 16 gallon tank you should be able to shoot many, many baits without it coming on. Have fun, but be sure to post any pictures of your baits you've painted in the gallery....
  20. Everyone has their opinion on what ever airbrush they use. The ones you mentioned, who knows. If I tell you one is better over the other that's my opinion, but on the other hand you purchase the one I picked or someone else picked, and you don't like it....well who do you blame? I have an inexpensive one, I think I paid around $45 or 50 dollars for it and it suits my needs just fine. The first one you called attention to is around $120 retail, and the other, around $170 retail, what's the difference? Looks like $50 to me. Just my .02.
  21. I like the instant gratification aspect. If I see something I like and it suits my needs, I'll probably buy it. I would never purchase a blank, spend the money to send it, have someone paint it and pay to ship it to me. If you have figured out what sells, then buy that blank, the overages on the others can be sold on ebay, CL or hang on to them if that size bait is needed. Just my .02.

    Heater

I use a small portable electric heater. My shop is 10X12, well insulated and it doesn't take much to heat it up to a comfortable level. Sometimes that thing will run me out of there.
  23. Just a question, are you wanting a silent bait ? Wouldn't the epoxy you put in the vacant space change the buoyancy of the bait and make it heavier? Just wondering.
