  1. I like the colors together. Nice as always, and on the cutting edge of painting. They are good enough I cant decide witch I like the most.
  2. Reeves hit it on the head. There is a lot of ways to heat a jig. Just use a clean fuel source. I like the heat gun the most. The oven dayooper talks of, I like for a large quality. But having a second heat source to reheat the jig helps me a lot (not sticking my hand in the oven) gets toasty. The cheapest heat source I think i have found is the alcohol burner. Have not had time to fix it up after a mishap but works well. I have one Friend that uses his propane camp stove. The trick is consistent heat. For a newbie I would think the oven would work the best. Fluff the powder and swish the jig. Maybe reheat the jig after to level the paint out. The pits can be gotten rid of by using a brush. When the jig is still hot tap the paint on. NO CANDLES.
  3. The lead sounds like it need to be cleaned(fluxed). But the dents I think are from the mold being cold or maybe the mold burning and gassing. Have you poured a couple with out hooks the heat it up and see what it dos. Water putty wont last long but good to test jigs. I have not used the rubber, but I would think it would work better like reeves said and have more detail. I generally test with water putty then cut a mold in aluminum.
  4. I have had this made just over a year. They are cupped a little and cast from lead. The larger one is good for trolling and fills like a hard bait shaking. The smaller one I rig a bead between the hook and the lead. Both make a worm swim like a snake. The hook is rigged weedless so it hard to snag. I like to leave them unpainted so I can cut them (like a bow tie)to change the way they swim. To tell you the truth they are my second favorite sinker.
  5. Yes that is a blank DO-IT mold. Cut with a dremel and a drill press.
  6. This is what I have come up with and like it a lot. The mold has 0.50 wire threw the center then pulled out after its poured. I like to put a bead in front of the hook and it wobbles very well. Its hard to snag dragging it and sticks up when you stop. You can cut the top off for a contoled wobble.
  7. Cadman I just started to drift over and start making hard baits and plastics. I purchased the craftsman 214000 band saw and like it quit a bit. Its the 10 in. but mjmmusser is correct the craftsman blades do dull fast, so do home depo brand (Vermont American). I have not found a good place for blades yet so if any has one let us know. I have to say I like that ridged sander but if you have a sears close I would use them. I have Had them fix tools for me and purchased parts from them fast and easy to fix. No sending it off to get it fixed in the mail. Just remember no tool is perfect. All will fail sooner or later just hope for later. And go with customer service. I need to find a job like that I'm jellos Cadman. Hey at least that heat tape saves me time when I get a chance to make jigs.
  8. Barlow's Tackle Shop: Browsing Lure Body Will this work I am having trouble seeing what you want. You could pour this mold with out the inserts with a little flashing on the ends where the pins would be. Do-it modal LB-5-A is a lure mold body that slides onto a wire but is in sizes 1/32 1/16 1/8 1/4 3/8 oz. I wish you luck if you draw it on paper and show us we might be able to help more.
  9. Any metal will work if you make dowels to line them up like two peace molds for plastics. The two halves need to match up with each other fitting flat on each other and not able to see threw them even 1/4 in straping will work. Aluminum is the easyest to work with. Useing althread rod drill the two sides the same size as the threads. thread the one side and drill out the other side so the allthread slides threw. Then use nuts to hold the two halfs together. Just drill a hole the size you want. You might have all you need already in your shop for this project! Metal peace to cut in half, two bolts if you dont have allthread, four nuts, drill bit or two. good luck and have fun.
  10. There is a lot of bubbles in that coat. But might be worth a try in our bulk buying program.
  11. Simple and clean. Thank you. That is alot better than dealing with oozing syringes.
  12. I fill like a chump and a bit embarrassed. I procrastinate until today to pull it out look look look, then I ask my kids. Gee thats weird they know right where it is? Yes its out in the silo (i use a silo for storage) sitting right buy one of your boat anchors. I get there and its smashed with nothing on top of it. The poor funnel is almost flat but wrinkled and cracked on the seam. But the bolts are still in the wood but not straight. Then the alcohol burner glass it shattered. So to say the least I still have the top with the wick and cap. It did not take much to save it. But no jar to put it on, might be a loss any way. I truly do not know why but I am not mad at them. I just smile at my adventure today. Hes only five and not on drugs or talking back. I can get over looking like a chump. Thinking this would only take a few minutes, its my wifes b-day so I need to get back to that. I will try to whip one up tomorrow. Need a new one now.
  13. Wife is out of town will the digital camera should have it back Mon. I will try to get a pic up on Mon night. In the mean time the funnel has three long bolts holding it about 1/4 in above the alcohol burner the three bolts are in a peace of wood at the bottom of the alcohol burner. The alcohol burner can be slid out at any time. The bolt pattern is in a 4 bolt pattern with one missing so you can remove the burner. To make shore the heat is all going out the top stick a peace of rope in and let it smoke you should see it all funnel out the top and not the sides. If not make the hole at the tip of the funnel bigger cutting off some of the tip. Just to clarify just in case. The funnel is up side down pointing away from the alcohol burner.
  14. Just make sure the hole in the funnel is big enough to let the heat threw and not around.
  15. If I want cheap. I use a alcohol lamp. Use the propane for solder. I fill the heat gun is the best but the alcohol lamp is my second choice. Are you leaving the oven on While you paint open the door grab one close the door. I think the oven is the fastest way to paint but if you want to add mutable colors you need a second way to heat. If you want to save money get a alcohol lamp and a metal reloading powder funnel (generally for black powder reloading)and use three bolts in a peace of wood that hold the funnel up side down, over the flame on the alcahol lamp. All the heat will be directed to the point of the funnel and you will be away from the open flame. That will help you add more heat after the paint is on the jig with out burning the paint. I think that is the cheapest way to heat your jig.
  16. I thought you were not supposed to smell plastic (toxic). Thought you supposed to where a painters face mask.

    Screw Lock

Welding wire 0.026 is what I use. Any where they sell welders.
  18. I need to try that. Already missed the ten year anniversary. That is a happy anniversary congrats.
  19. I now see it all. Thank you Downriver Tackle for sharing your knowledge. Nice site to!
  20. OK! OK! Thank you for your help. Still have your epoxy and your fishing hole.
  21. OOOOOH? ouch! I think you have plenty of secrets. Like your fishing hole or where you skinny dip.
  22. Thanks philb I see Etex posted a lot. Might have to try it. Downriver on the flex coat I thought that yellowed over time? Are you talking about the rod finish or is there another mix to use?
  23. This is good info and I really want to know what would be a good place for me to start finding another good clear coat. I use 2-ton now and like it but I would like a longer cure at times. Maybe to coat 10 lures at a time. I'm only good enough to get 4 or 5 in. I live high in the mountains (5700 ft above sea level)and its dry, moisture in the air is not a problem. Well unless you want it there. I guess Live in the mountain desert. ANYWAYS looking for guidance.
  24. OOOO no here it comes!!!!! No not that! Please any thing but that! Downriver Tackle what do you think the best brand epoxy or urathane for the application? I see that I should use slow cure (3 hours).
