  1. It looks like a Bandit 100 to me.

I have the same addiction. Of course, I choose to call it a hobby, so I don't have to face reality. Hahaha

You did a really nice job!
  4. I'm gonna toss it, and get some new when I order more plastic from you.
  5. Well done! I hope you get years of service from it, and catch a ton of fish on your baits!
  6. The hardener is now semi-solid, not thick honey anymore. Is the some was to "thin" it to get back to that honey consistency?
  7. I have some hardener that I bought from Bear 10+ years ago. I used it when I first got it, and it was like thick honey, but I haven't tried to use it since. I tried to use some yesterday, but it wouldn't "melt" into the plastic. Instead, all I got was a white lump. Does this stuff have a shelf life, or is there something I can use to bring it back to usable?

    speed trap copy

Sorry to be so late replying. I use an oscillating belt sander to get the basic shape, and then a rasp and file to get the belly tapers. The final shaping is by hand, with sand paper. The pointed, V shaped nose is a key, I think, in making the bait stable at high speeds. The two angled faces going back from the nose force the water over the body so it's being pushed down and to the side, even on a fast retrieve. Having a Speed Trap to use as a reference really helped me with the shaping. Every detail has a reason it's there.
  9. Great looking baits! Where did you get you props and hardware?

What does the V shape of the belly do?
  12. I do that with swim baits that have bent tails, and it works.
  13. I've made that mistake, too, more often than I care to mention.
  14. I think Dieter Meiberg (Diemei), who is from Germany, has used it. The PVC I use is buoyant. The decking is as buoyant as poplar, and the trim is as buoyant as med. heavy balsa or pine. If you have the equivalent of Google in the Netherlands, look up PVC decking and/or building materials.
  15. Did the bubbles make the baits more buoyant?
  16. I only use pop for soft plastic molds, and I add some yellow carpenter's glue to make it stronger.
  17. Man, you could get arrested for cruelty to lures! That fight must have been fun! I don't think nail polish will help that bait! Battle scared baits are the best. I have a Predator Baits wiggle wart hanging over my bench that had it's belly hanger twisted 90 degrees by a 30" salmon. I still get a kick out of it every time I look at it. I caught in on the San Joaquin River, where salmon are catch and release, so I put it in my livewell for an hour with some Rejuvenade, and it went from belly up when it went in to feisty when I released it. A fun memory.
  18. PVC baits don't require sealers, are totally waterproof, and hold up to toothy critters in the salt. It machines and carves like wood.
  19. I would contact the foam manuf. and ask them what to use.
  20. When they get chewed, take them home, dry them out, and use clear nail polish to seal over the chewed parts.
  21. Crayons are a pain to use, because they take forever to melt, unless you use a crayon sharpener to shred them into the plastisol. I always got lumps of partially melted crayon in my pours. That's why I stopped using them. The colorant made for plastisol is so much better, and easier to use.
  22. The caulking gun silicone is much harder to use to make molds. Because it cures so slowly when it's thick, I had to coat the master with a cover coat, using my finger to force it into all the details, and then mix some water into the rest of the silicone as I filled the mold, so it would set up overnight. Otherwise, it would take a week+ to set up. It still came out with voids, and the molds are a pain to pour. I don't use it anymore, period.
  23. I've never been able to use pop with hard masters. You can use the caulking gun tubes of 100% silicone, which are cheaper than the true mold silicone, but it is a lot harder to work with.
