  1. Pete, I don't think many TU members use Solarez, but it was worth a shot. I find their website confusing. I've sent them an email to clear up whether the vinyl ester epoxy resin, which is described as matte, but which has gloss on the bottle label, is, in fact, gloss, and whether it is UV cured. http://solarez.com/products/vinyl-ester-epoxy-gloss-resin-with-nano-quartz/ I'll post their reply. All I want is their product in a finish that isn't dull looking over darker colors. Mark
  2. Dieter Maiberg (Diemai) made some of those and posted about them here quite a few years ago.
  3. I have been using the Solarez dual-cure polyester resin that cures in three minutes under a UV light. They also offer a vinyl ester epoxy gloss resin that cures in five minutes under a UV light. Has anyone used it yet, and, if so, what has been your experience?
  4. How long does it take to dry, and to cure?
  5. I don't remember ever reading about a squid bait here. Maybe a striper site's forum would have something. Dan Warme brought the Tora Tube, a salt water squid bait, into freshwater bass fishing. That's all I know about squid baits. Try doing a search for squid in the search tab.
  6. Eyectcher, There is a rule most of us follow: Hard master, soft mold Soft master, hard mold It is darn near impossible to get a hard master out of a hard mold without damaging one or the other, or both.
  7. I use a band saw, and then do all but my final hand sanding with this: http://www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGID-Oscillating-Edge-Belt-Spindle-Sander-EB4424/100061671 My machine is 20+ years old, uses the same 4X24 belts as my hand held belt sander, and has a dust port in the back for a vacuum attachment. It removes the melted face from Azek quickly, as I am rough shaping my blanks.
  8. Fingernail polish from the dollar store is a cheap, easy way to paint lures.
  9. As well as the one shaking them! Sorry, couldn't resist.
  10. I think that might have something to do with light passing through the plastic being bent, as opposed to light being reflected back off of glitter.
  11. I used a 1/2 hp Milwaukee drill motor with a mixing blade to mix drywall mud in 5 gallon buckets for many years. That drill was lower rpm, and had plenty of torque. It was like this, but without the pretty paint: http://www.all-wall.com/Categories/Mud-Mixing-Tools/BuddyTools-MixIt-Mixing-Paddle.html
  12. I don't know if this will work for you paint scheme, but it's worth a look: http://www.rustoleum.com/product-catalog/consumer-brands/painters-touch-ultra-cover-2x/clear/ You can always add a coat of mat/semi-gloss over your gloss top coat to dull it down. That way, you have the protection of your original top coat, and a mat finish, too.
  13. I don't know if your repainting instructions included different eyes, but, if not, you can look for a hole punch at a craft store the same diameter you can punch out discs of blue painter's tape, and just mask the eyes, instead of removing them. I do that with a 5/16" punch I inherited from one of my kids' school projects, and, if the disc is too big, I use a sharp exacto knife to trace the smaller eye out, using the outside lure eye groove as a guide. Did I mention I was lazy, too? Hahaha
  14. I think trying to use a power tool to clean up the inner faces of swimbait joints is like trying to drive a brad with a sledge hammer. At the risk of sounding old, which I am, one of the beauties of PVC is how easily it sands by hand. Take a thin piece of wood, or a flat file, fold a piece of 80 grit around it, and have at it. Move up to 100, or 120, and you're done!
  15. I have no idea what any of that means. Sorry.
  16. If you coat your master using your finger to spread the silicone into all the details before you push it down into the already filled mold box, you can get more details.
  17. I found out about Azek PVC from JR Hopkins, so he's the one you should thank.
  18. Just remember that the molecules that make a finish glossy also make it stronger, so ask the paint store person about that, too.
  19. I think the weight moves to the back of the bait on the cast because of centrifugal (centripetal?) force as it's slung forward. Once it lands, and the bait orients bill down, the weight moves down/forward because of gravity. I'm no engineer, but I did sleep in a motel once.
  20. Yard sales are your friend.
  21. In the past I've had to disable my ad block in order to get other sites to allow me access.
