  1. Thanks Saltshaker. I hope the fish agree! I wanted a transparent scheme, like the old Wiggle Wart Phantoms I've seen, and this one is see-thru from below and the sides. Our water is clear out here in SoCal, so I just want to give a hint, not hit them over the head with something solid.

  3. It is no secret, I'm sure. But it does look good, at least to me. I'll have to wait to see what the fish think.
  4. .3 grams, not oz. Thanks for catching that Barry Bait.
  5. Thanks. I hope you're right. I meant grams, not oz. Doh!!! I weighed both baits before I dipped them, and they weighed the same. Afterwards, the one with two dips is .3 gram heavier. That's a little less than .3 oz for sure. I'll check them again tomorrow morning, in case I'm hallucinating.
  6. Two of Jim's Wiggle Warts, one two rattles, one three rattles. The belly is Createx transparent orange, thinned 50% with 4011 reducer. I sprayed multiple thin coats over the entire bait to give an orange cast to the whole thing. Then I thinned med. brown transparent 50% with 4011, and sprayed the sides and back. I did additional coats on the back to make it a little darker. Before I began painting, I put shell markings on with black and brown sharpies. I did the eyes with a black sharpie, and, using my gloved thumb for a template, I sprayed uncut tran. orange on the bill to give the "claw" look, like the originals. I put one dip coat of Solarez gloss on one, and two on the other. The additional coat added .3 oz. Please let me know what you think.

  8. I am going to post two of Jim's Wiggle Warts that I tried to paint in a phantom craw. They'll be in the Hard Baits gallery, as soon as they finish loading. It seems that the only thing guaranteed fast on the internet is delete. It's been 10 minutes and my emailed pictures from my phone to my computer haven't arrived yet! They finally loaded, so now I'll upload them to the gallery.
  9. Is that like reading the instructions BEFORE you begin? Hahaha
  10. Man, you are a wandering soul! I hope all is well with you. Tell us about the fishing there, when you have a chance.
  11. Dieter, Do you think adding a line of lead on the concave side, along the center line between the line tie and the hook, so you don't change the center of gravity, might help the thinner, lighter lures cast better without changing their action?
  12. Paul, As always, you did a great job, both on the lure build, and on the video work. Thanks.
  13. Here's what I use: http://www.solarez.com/productsnew/gloss.html
  14. Try dipping them quickly in clean acetone, and then letting them hang bill down to dry. I mean quickly, just in and out, or the acetone will melt the lure itself. If you're quick, and it doesn't take it all off, you can do it twice, but watch out that you don't remove too much of the bill's plastic in the precess.
  15. That's the only thing that stopped me. It's an attached garage, and I realized all the fire fighters are busy with the wild fires, so it would take my whole house, too.
  16. Thin your paint, fog coat by holding the brush away from the lure, and go slow.
  17. Is there anyone here who pours a laminated senko-type 5" worm with colors like Robo's Aaron's Magic?
  18. Yeah, that's one I'd like to paint, too. Thanks. That bait looks great!
  19. Sounds like sometimes being "civilized" isn't all it's cracked up to be. But you guys know your fishing resources, and how to protect them, best. Let us know how they cast. You could always bend over the hooks, so no hookups are possible, and still feel if you get bit.
  20. Man, there are a ton of materials to use for both the cranks and the molds. Most of us here have our own materials and methods for how we build, and they are all different, and they all work for each one of us. Try this: Enter rtv molds in the search tab at the upper right of this page, and also try foam cranks, and variations of both of those. You'll find enough stuff to read to give you a good idea of what's available, and then you can come back to the forum and ask more specific questions that folks here who use those specific techniques can answer. Take an hour and read as much as you can, so get a real sense of the pros and cons of the different materials and methods. You'll be glad you did. Think of it as reading a good topo map before you fish a new lake.
  21. Now I've got to figure out how to do the semi-transparent brown and red craw paint schemes....Jim, you make my life so complicated! Hahaha
  22. Man, you guys make me feel so inadequate. I just put two deck screws into a piece of plywood leaning against my garage wall, and suspend them with a paper clip through the line tie, and a rubber band at the other end. I'm going out right now to burn my garage down....again! Hahaha
