  1. Replacing the protective coating with blue painters tape will give you better protection, and you can mark it more easily with a pencil or pen for centerline and line tie locations.
  2. I just ordered the weedless football jig, FBW-4-AF, from Do-It, and 100 Eagle Claw 4/0 EL570BP hooks from Captain Hook. I don't know how long it takes Do-It, but Capt. Hook says 2-4 weeks. I may die of old age before they get here. Hahaha
  3. Thats a clever idea for a diffuser.
  4. I just can't for the live of me figure out how you would mask off the parts of the reel you don't want getting painted or top coated. Seems like it would take forever.
  5. I haven't tried the GST, but the hair dryer cut down my recoat time with water borne urethane from Target to one hour instead of two, so I could get three dip coats on in two hours, instead of four, and fish the lure the next day.
  6. I see that you incorporated a valve to control flow. My experience with sump pumps is they are strong, and it would be hard to cut down the flow too much without burning them out. Maybe a smaller pump, like for a big aquarium, would work.
  7. Have you tried using a hair dryer to speed up the drying process, once the bait has skinned over?
  8. I hope they do like it, because I just made a lure using them. Hahaha
  9. Thanks Smalljaw. I'll check them out, once we pick our mold. Right now we're leaning toward the FBW-4-AF.

    Pvc Filler

I have a shload of PVC sanding dust, so I may try that. I tried it with super glue, and it volcanoed on me.
  11. I'm sure you can work it out. You've done most of the hard work already. What kind of a tank are you using?
  12. Man, if that's your first effort at lure building and finishing, you're set! It looks terrific! Let us know how it fishes.
  13. You should probably check out the Rod and Reel Repair forum, and post your question there. I know there are guys who have successfully painted reels who posted their results there. Correction: I just checked that forum and couldn't find anything about how to top coat reels after painting them. Just a few people asking the same question you asked. On another forum, somewhere, someone used an auto clear, but it was a sovent based and toxic. I'm pretty sure that's the only finish that will hold up.
  14. Dude, you have us all on pins and needles. Post them somewhere so we can check them out. Hahaha

    Pvc Filler

Bondo, sealed with super glue to make it stronger once I've sanded it to shape.
  16. I would think magnetic wire might slow down the spin on steel blades.
  17. Thanks Ted. My pouring partner and I are debating which mold to get. Once we decide, I'll post it and ask for your help.
  18. I do use spray PAM every time, but I still seal my cavities with diluted epoxy.
  19. I can see how bubbles would be a problem if you're selling baits. You seem to have it figured out. Good for you, and thanks for sharing your method and insight.
  20. If you add the glue into the wet mix, do you still have to seal the cavities before you can pour?
  21. Man, that is THE test tank. Thanks. Dieter, do you have the link to that video?
