  1. JD, I use a really weak water/soap solution to clean my airbrush between coats. I'll have to check and see if that's the problem. Thanks.
  2. I think you're right about "over thinning", so the paint film is weak. I'd have to do some experimenting. My problem is I'm lazy, so I don't like to break out the airbrush just for testing. Hahaha
  3. Thanks. That makes sense, since teflon skillets get very hot.
  4. Three weeks ago I painted some 1.5 cranks with a light green pumpkin back and shoulders, and then shot a very reduced black over the back. The black kind of clumped up, and I really like the effect. Unfortunately, when I tried to repeat it, I couldn't. Does anyone here have any idea what made the black paint act that way?
  5. Will plastisol stick to teflon? I'm asking before I ruin something.
  6. I use a heat gun to even out the tops of my silicone open pour swimbaits, but I'm really careful not to overheat the mold. Hitting the plastic while it's still hot lets me get it back up to melting temp. pretty quickly. I would never try it with mold whose bait was cool or cold.
  7. If you added salt, that could be the cause.
  8. Would an ultrasonic cleaner work? Maybe you could put a batch in a small glass jar of something, run the cleaner for 8 minutes, and come away with clean pins. That is, if it works.
  9. I just posted two prop wake baits in the Hard Baits Gallery. The bluegill has already caught fish. I'm going to take the Ayu/golden shiner out for a swim this week. Fingers crossed!
  10. Two prop wake baits. 40 grams, 4 1/4" long, 1 1/2" tall, 1" thick. On a slow retrieve, they wake and wiggle, and the prop spins. On a faster retrieve, they dive 6" to 12". They have metal rattles in the tail pieces. #2 KVD EWG trebles.
  11. Adding a drop of runny super glue over the threads will lock in any loose filaments. It penetrates.
  12. I spray PAM into my Bass Tackle injector between each load, and I've never had to clean it in 10+- years.
  13. I ran out of a paint that I could only get from one supplier. They are the exact opposite of Coast Airbrush. The paint was $8, but the shipping was $14.57, and they only show the shipping cost once you've ordered and they have invoiced you. $24.33 with tax is a lot for four oz. of paint. Needless to say, I will be using that paint more cautiously, and searching for another supplier.
  14. Barry, it's all your fault! Hahaha
  15. I ordered some airbrush paint from Coast Airbrush a couple of weeks ago. I got a phone call from them to say one of the paints was back ordered for a week, and asking if I wanted the rest shipped immediately, and the other when it came in. I wound up waiting for everything to ship at once, and it did as soon as the back ordered paint came in. To me, that is great customer service, so thank you, and well done, Coast Airbrush!
  16. I'm talking about the topwater lures/wake baits that Allan Cole made back in the early 90's. https://acplugs.com/
  17. Does anyone here know what kind of wood the original A.C. Plugs were made from?
  18. I shoot some PAM cooking spray into the injector between each shoot, and I'm still on the same O rings after 6+ years.
  19. Airbrushed, and then coated with clear nail polish. You'll lose the jig before the paint/nail polish ever fails.
  20. If I really wanted to use the heavier Mustad hook, I'd pivot the hook so the eye is closer to the lead head, even if I wound up with the hook's shank at the bottom of the hook keeper where it enters the head or slightly exposed on the bottom. The bait will hide any exposed hook shank.
  21. I use the Mustad 32786 for my jigs and chatterbaits, and I've never had one open up, either on a fish or on a snag. If hook strength is really important to you, modify your mold one time, and you're all set.
  22. You might try spraying a water-based clear coat over the spray paint, and then try the nail polish.
