1. Thanks for the research and for the info. I thought the wire looked light, but I don't have an accurate caliper, and I couldn't tell with my tape measure. My buddy said the same thing about the deep runner wire. Too bad. They are a good blade, but I won't be buying any more.

tilapia plug 3

Thanks Ben. I was kinda thinking that, too. Flashy silver/grey contrast could be a crappie, a shad, or just something to eat before it gets away. I got inspired by your deep diver, so I'm about to start shaping some 2.5/type bodies out of PVC, and adding a deep diving bill, to see if I can do it. Fingers crossed! When I add a bill that is going to have the line tie on it, I typically drill down through the bait and bill, and epoxy in a piece of spinnerbait wire to reinforce the bill/body connection, like a dowel I worry that, even though my line tie wire will be set in epoxy, the strain of casting might loosen the bill. Do you think I'm worried about nothing?

tilapia plug Dd

Same paint scheme on a DD22 Norman plug. I uses Createx pearl silver on the gill cheeks and back, so they would be lighter than the shallow runner I did. I wanted more flash down deeper. Fingers crossed the bass do, too.

tilapia plug 2

I saw a 2lb tilapia floating dead on a local lake, so I decided to paint one up.
BustinBass 2.5 in a tilapia pattern, no rattles.
Createx pearl white base, scale with Createx trans. med grey, bars with same grey using a comb as a stencil, light fog sides and back with Folk Art metalic gold. I used a black solvent based sharpie to do the gill accent.
Heat set each color and the sharpie well with a hair dryer.
Three dips with SC 9000 urethane, heat set on low after 15 minutes, and then again after 30 minutes. That let me redip in an hour.
I'll let it cure for a couple of days (BobP, you were right), and then take it out for a swim.
5. Stuff happens! Years ago, I borrowed a friends 8" Pupfish, and threw it up onto a mud flat on the first cast. It hit the only hard thing there, a green beer bottle, and broke. That's what got me started making baits, because the Pupfish is no longer available, so I made him one out of wood. The rest, as they say, is history. I guarantee you that whatever broke that bill wasn't trying to break it. It just happens.
6. You're right. Now, if they could just restore my gallery and email connections.........
7. Shhhh!!!!! You're not supposed to mention how much our little hobby really costs.
8. It does sound too good to be true! I hope someone here knows something about it, and shares.
9. That's a relief. At least one person isn't pissed at me! I am clueless as to why my gallery connection disappeared. Someone PMd me about a pearl green color, and when I tried to find my photos to show him my green crappie, I came up empty until I did a convoluted search. I never thought that the photos might have been switched, so the oldest is first. You're a genius for figuring that one out. Now, if you can figure out why, and where my connections went, I'll send you some money to buy lottery tickets for me.
10. I thought I was the only one having problems with the gallery. I posted this in a new thread: Jerry, I just checked and my photos aren't in the gallery anymore. There is also no connection to my gallery photos under my avatar anymore. Did I piss someone off? Seriously, am I not doing something I need to be doing? Please let me know. I'm a carpenter, not an IT person, so, if I screwed something up, let me know and I'll fix it. Thanks in advance, Mark

13. I think putting the line tie in the bill raises the center of gravity, and that is what enhances the action. For me, raising the center of gravity is the key to making baits that hunt.

15. I've found, for both flipping and pitching to tules and brush, that the 4" Super Hog, moves enough water to get bit, and it doesn't wrap around the brush, like the regular brush hog, or a lizard. And it's easier to pitch in the wind, because it catches less air.
16. Sounds like an acetone backflush and needle cleaning is going to be my last step whenever I use Future. I've gotten spoiled, since a water/detergent backflush cleans my brushes so well now, but the addition of Future seems like such a plus, I'm willing to add another cleaning step. It's probably a good step to add, anyway. Thanks for the headsup, Bob.
17. Actually, I've had both break, but the deep runner is the one that broke off right at the head. I don't know what the diameter of the wire is, but I have also had the wire break if I have to bend it back more than a few times. I have a friend on their pro staff. I asked him what was wrong, and he asked me if I were swinging my blade fish into the boat. I do, but I've never had this problem with othe spinnerbaits. I stopped buying them. They are too expensive to break all the time. But I love the detail they put into the lures. Very realistic heads and eyes, and good skirts.
18. I fish Revenge brand spinnerbaits a lot. I like how the look, and how they swim. But I find their wire breaks much more often than any other blade I've thrown. Yesterday, I had one break off right at the head. All I got back was the wire and blades. In the past, the wires mostly broke at the R bend. Is there a reason their wire seems so prone to breaking?
19. That's it! Thanks. It's a great flipping bait.
20. Does anyone sell a mold for the Super Hog?

Ben, That's a good looking bait! I'm guessing the thin width of the bill has a lot to do with the tight action. Plus the bait looks taller than it is wide, so that may contribute, too. I really like the line tie wire and connection. What did you use for the lip?
22. Nice tutorial. Thanks for sharing.
23. I typed in lureparts.com, and this time that drop down option opened. I swear it wasn't on the crankbait/minnow page before. Maybe I'm just blind. Thanks again.
