  1. Thanks for saying the color has changed. I thought I was crazy. The cinnamon/black flake I have is tranlucent, with a slight grey look. It's their #176 The cinnamon/black and purple flake I have, #221, is totally opaque and looks nothing like their color chart. Even the skirts, which have no salt, are opaque. I'm scratching my head, and other places, trying to figure that color out.
  2. While we're on the subject, when did the plastisol we pour with first come out, who was the first to use it, and what the heck is it?
  3. Roger, Whose colorants are you using? I need to add salt for weight, and to get the fish to hold on a little longer, so I have to factor that in. I may flour the salt and use it to take the place of the white colorant.
  4. Rookie, If the resin expands so much from the moisture in the air, wouldn't that make it more buoyant, and let you add the lower ration of micro to keep up the strength? Mark, who has never cast resin baits in his life.
  5. I am trying to match the Yamamoto cinnamon color that he uses for his cinnamon/purple flake hula grubs. It's like a lighter, milk chocolate color. Almost like there's some white mixed with the brown. I'm stumped. Does anyone here have any ideas, or know of a manuf. who makes a plastic colorant that matches that color?
  6. I add a little .15 red flake, and it gives the plastic a red tinge. A little flake goes a long way.
  7. I bought some red plastic worms in the '50s from Thrifty Drugs, that I used for trout. I don't remember who made them, but I found some of them melted to my old tackle box a few years ago.
  8. Bohica, When I bought my HP-C, I don't think they had the Eclipse HP-CS. If I were buying a brush today, I think I'd buy that one. The .35 tip is a little more forgiving of paint that's thicker. Not that I wouldn't thin my paints anyway, but I think it might not clog as quickly as the.3 tip.
  9. I wound up with air pockets from two things. First, the plastic wasn't hot enough. 360 degrees for me works best. Second, the vent holes were too big. My POP molds need vents that are only the diameter of a toothpick. Any more than that, and the hot plastic just goes right out of the bottom, leaving air bubbles. I have found that every mold has it's own quirks, depending on the size of the actual bait, and it's configuration.
  10. There's no P in beer, at least not until you've drunk it. Then you'll go to pot.
  11. +1 That's the brush I use 90% of the time.
  12. Lurecraft sells an oxblood color, already mixed. Kind of a purplish red.
  13. I tried the super secret sauce, and then couldn't find my garage.
  14. I have never seen a muskie in person, but I've caught a lot of barricuda, and they look a lot alike to me. Big, strong, lots of sharp teeth. I'd never use anything less than .092 sst screw eyes, at least 1 1/2" long. Brass is too soft. There is a pike fisherman, Jeep, who is a member here. He just posted a video of some fish he caught with his Esox swimbaits. Check out his video, and give him a PM. He'd be the perfect guy to give you some first hand advice.
  15. Great video! Those guys are some real cannibibles, as Tigger would say.
  16. There's probably some flame retardant, or some other chemical the manuf. puts on the material. Maybe it's left over oil from the manuf. process itself. Lots of possiblilities, or suspects. If washing takes it off, great. I wish all bait making problems were so easily solved.
  17. I was thinking of how the Ika skirts flare out.
  18. Thanks for all the tips. I'll get a smaller cup and give it another go. The mold will abide.
  19. I hope you guys can help me. I have a two cavity open pour RTV mold from Lurecraft for a 4 1/2" lizard. It looks a lot like the Zoom lizard. I am having trouble pouring it without tons of overpour. Are there any secrets to doing really small details, like the legs and tail? Thanks in advance, Mark P.S. I'm already working on making it an injection mold, because I'm so frustrated.
  20. Frank, Does anyone make a mold for a tube with a flared skirt?
  21. Thanks guys for all the contacts. I actually found someone here, or they found me, who makes them and is willing to sell me some. So my search is done, at least for now. Thanks again for your help.
