  2. does anyone know of a scale painting tutorial with pictures? I can't seem to find one and I'm really interested, just dont know what mesh fabric
  3. Cory I know how you feel man, I just started a week ago and am dissapointed in how mine come out, not like im surprised lol. I'm just going to keep working at it, it's more of a winter wasting hobby for me, too much ice to fish so why not make lures for the upcoming season! Just enjoy making them and remember that most of the people with those amazing lures of which I'm very jealous of have been making them for yearSSS. Stick with it if you enjoy it, if you feel like it's a hassle and not enjoyable then there's really no point

i dont get how they get the two hooks connected? is it like they split the bait in half, put the hookeyes in and then glue it back? I've just been drilling 3cm-ish deep holes, and epoxying in the hook eyes ???
  5. thanks bob it was Krylon Gray Primer. Doesn't say if it's Oil or water on the can but I did brush it on and it didnt stain the brush so I'm assuming it's water? I just found a old primer can in my garage, it's oil based white kilz though. I'm just a little dissapointed because I can picture what I want the painted to baits to look like but they dont come out quite as well I was looking through the gallery at the poppers and almost all of them have a nice silvery "chain" scales look http://www.tackleunderground.com/photos/index.php?n=249 Does anyone know how I can go about doing that?
  6. what size split ring should I use for a 2.5"-3" popper? 1,2 or 3? and what size treb hook? I'm about to order off netcraft and lurecraft so any help would be awesome thanks
  7. Just started making my own lures a few days ago, already asked a few Qs on here and got some greatly appreciated responses. Today I painted my first two lures and noticed that they look a little bumpy, not as smooth as many of yours. I'm using pine, primed, then painted right on top of the primer. Am I supposed to sand with say 150 before applying the primer, or should I sand after the primer and then paint on that? I'm not a expert on wood but it looks to be the grains are sticking out and that's why it's a little bumpy? Then again it could be that I'm using acrylics and not airbrushing.
  8. Can somone please tell me? I'm at the final stage and don't know what to use. Also, if I use epoxy what do I apply it with? A paint brush?
  9. Which would you prefer for a final coat (after primer and acrylic paint). Polyurethane Clear Gloss or Devcon 2 Ton Epoxy? Most of you may prefer the epoxy but does anyone know if the Polyurethane would work almost as well? thanks
  10. cool, im from ipswich and what should I spread the epoxy (2ton) with when I do a final coat over the paint? and when I use the primer, it's after I put in the eyes with the 5 min epoxy right? if so should i just dip the lure in the primer or do i paint the primer on? thanks
  11. hey jason what town are you from? I'm also from Mass
  12. A.C. MOORE!!!! AH THANK YOU! lol I couldnt think of a place that may have crafting supplies around here (I'm not a very artsy person). Thank you so much Jason, you answered everything I needed to know:) I'm going out to a few stores tommorrow and I'll go to A.C. Moore as well. Thanks again
  13. yea I had seen that, I'd rather not pay the money...and I dont have a credit card. If my questions are simple enough I'm hoping and I can get some answers in replies, that way I can respond. Can't really talk to a book =P
  14. Hey everyone, a bunch of people have been saying good things about the helpfulness of this site and from the posts it seems to all be true:) Alright, I just started making my own lures (well trying) 3 days ago. It's winter and I want this as a hobby. I've carved out a few poppers from pine(still trying to find some balsa locally), sanded them with a dremel. Now I'd like to put in the hook eyes and paint it. I've heard about "sealing", what exactly is that? Is it just for crankbaits? or is it for all wooden lures? And if I'm going to paint them does it matter what kind of paint I get(using paintbrushes)? I know it has to be water proof. and do I need to put a coat of something on the bait before I paint it? I'm planning on using epoxy to glue in the hook eyes, havent decided whether to use stainless steel wire or screw eyes but should I "seal" them with something when I finish inserting them into the lure? Sorry for all the questions, you can probably break them down into some simpler basic ones if you choose to help me. Any help would be greatly appreciated
