  1. Perhaps my problem is trying to sand on power wrapper..does it need to be a lathe?
  2. What a f...g joke, i finally get my order of rod guide. im sure some of the guys that work there are on this forum. i had to call cause it was taking a long time. find out they just shipped the other day, because they needed time to strip parts off of rods. what i got doesn't look anywhere close to the original. the whole reason i went to trouble of ordering from bass pro/outdoor world rod reel Repair was to get the right matching guides. wrong style, even slightly wrong size... they cut parts from totally different rod. its funny cause i gave them the model and year number for the rods.. with exception of the tip tops, everything in the order is completely wrong.if i had one rod to repair i might not notice, but ive got a dozen all laying side by side so i know what they should look like.i might need advice where to order these guides directly..ill try to measure sizes ...i need to figure out the style of pac bay guide...im not an expert just an enthusiast.
  3. Interesting..I'd thought I'd share..Berkeley,Fenwick and AbuGarcia share same stainless guides ss304..so if for those that think bekley makes crap,it might not be top.shelf, but for sure value priced..many of the berkeys I've got are indestructible...e-glass,bionix,e-cat,and some are just good for value..cheery wood..lightning stick,...so I now find that netcraft carries the ss304 in gold ,silver, and black but don't see titanium version for sale that's used on some berkleys.
  4. I've seen the youtubes..it just doesn't seem to work for me..surface gets rough, but doesn't bite down and change shape..I'm thinking next on lathe blade,or hot plastic burning knife. I've seen the youtubes..it just doesn't seem to work for me..surface gets rough, but doesn't bite down and change shape..I'm thinking next on lathe blade,or hot plastic burning knife. What's best glue for Eva foams?
  5. probably stupid question. how do you form foam handles. i tried to sand to shape, i tried a number of tools, short of burning or melting it down. how do you form it?
  6. I think they are all stainless.. Not REC guides..just look like simple wire guide. But all.metal, with thin metal insert..
  7. How about the guides off a Berkeley cherry wood rod...cheep rod Like $30...is there a place I can get guides cheeep enough to make repair worthwhile.. I think I saw reference as chrome insert ss304??? Whatever that is
  8. Looking for bass pro catmaxx guides..in particular..I got thru finally yesterday.. We will see..hopefully they get parts right..not like Okuma I spent 3 months they kept sending wrong wharehouse pulls, and most days I couldn't get thru to actually place order
  9. Looking for source for bass pro model rod guides..for repairing rod..I know.bass pro has a contracted shop in Missouri. But I can't get ahold of anyone there.... Also curious if there is schematic to figure out parts number ahead
  10. I'm hesitant to post pictures of other people's work,I don't mind discussing technique, but posting is too much..
  11. Actually I'm looking for more a gradient effect. Not so well defined color edge.I was also curious to a controlled color bleed by say making two batches one color non-bleeding,one bleeding, and cross stacking .leave for some precise amount of time, then effectevly stop the process by coating in worm oil .giving it a spot of color in one area that got gradient fade..any thoughts?...I've seen some custom runs,o can't figure out how they do it
  12. I tried molding and cutting out color and placing back in mold. I had a little problem of lure separating when tugged on at transition of color,,I tried a little paint in mold, but it wasn't durable,it would brush off mostly..
  13. I'm interested in understanding method to get dot of different color in soft plastic..for sake of disscision,I'm interested in both hand pour and injection.paint mold, pour color into mold by hand,???
  14. I had simalr problems caused by air in injector, you got to get all air out of tip.might be also related to temp of your mold.heat or warm it up.claws breaking might be too soft of plastic,I got some really soft stuff from MF, that tears kinda easier than I would think it should..but in all fairness I think it was my fault for ordering super soft..I thought it was the standard softness..I'm thinking blending with half standard as solution
  15. Interesting thread...not all "mineral" oils same..right..some pure grades or types work without long term affects...right??.. And I thought all worm oil now sold in the US is plastizer free..otherwise packages would require hazardous handling requirements..
  16. In theory. You should have fume hood evacuating fumes outside..full face mask with separate air source fed via hose that's suitable grade air to breathe..and gloves to handle both unreacted, and final reacted plastic ..as once pigments are added constant exposures of dyestuf is bad news..it builds up in liver..
  17. The head of a plastics research department here locally that I was chatting with said,he banned vinyl plastics from his department..only plastic type that he viewwed as dangerous..we had this discussion.somewhere here before..even.phalate.free might have some phalates since most suppliers.are rebranding.and don't really know.how there product was made.. 18. Interesting ...seems most people agree that with multi up mold multiple side injection is a mess and a lot of Hassel.
  19. I pour a few jigs and worms for myself..and somehow my pals gets many of them to the point of almost all of them.anyways when I add up cost, these baits, cost me almost what I can buy them on clearance for!!. That's whithout spending hours in my garden properly ventilated. I think without spending many thousands on duplicate large production molds,at least for me in a big city,I can't make as much as minimum wage we now have $15hr for many entry level jobs in service industry.. Making my own is just fun way to put custom touch on my fishing.
  20. What's pros of side port injection.seems like a lot of extra messing around to have multi up mold with a bunch of single injection spots.also I notice the holes are smaller than typical top injection.
  21. im surprised how little scientific information is available on this subject in this country. im sure a fair amount of research is public, just not easily accessible to most people. dow corning and dupont probably have a bunch of information, and if you could read Japanese im sure it would be amazing compared to what is known in this country. Japanese have researched everything, and its well organized. but impossible to get in this country.
  22. DaveMc... can you share what ever information...anything we would be interested in. please share.
  23. Curious if anyone cares to contribute..is it true heat stabilizer acts by preventing free radicals chain reaction..much like adding absorbic acis(vitamin c).if so it will work for limited number of reheats and or only to such a point if an area got to hot its powr will be used up and plastic will show signs of damage.
  24. If your mold is silicon rubber then it will stand more heat than the printed pieces. The print lines are a bummer with 3d printing technology..
