  1. yes powder paint and magic marker
  2. 4 oz rainbow trout and 3 oz spearhead firetiger
  3. im currently meting lead in a cast iron pan on a outdoor propane cooker. it works very good but looking for a deeper pot. where do you reccommend i get the best deal on a cast iron pot. nothing huge, something that will hold 20 to 30 pounds would be perfect. i doubt ill be getting the best deal from anyone that sells lead melting equipment.
  4. how do these things work? can you do pinstriping with them? spots? is the nozzle adjustable or is the stream basically a cloud?
  5. i use allergy pillowcase with great results. i get some volcanoing on my clear gloss powder and CS glow is OUT OF CONTROL!!! but all my other colors fluidize well. i also stuff a coffee filter under in the cavity under the pillowcase membrabe to help break up the flow.
  6. ok im really starting to itch for a airbrush. can airbrush paints withstand 350 degrees and be clear coated over? im thinking base color powder coat, airbrush design, then heat and dip in clear gloss powder and cure off. would i have to fully cure the base coat first before airbrushing? im also thinking high temp engine paint with stencils then clear powder over the top.
  7. i did all that already. modified the rack so it is mounted as high as it will go, got the thermometer. problem is my baits are just too big, most everything i pour is at least 4 inches long plus the paper clips i use to hang them turns it to 6 inches easy. the girlfriend dosent complain too much about the kitchen oven so ill keep running up and down the stairs from the kitchen to the garage for a while longer. i have a contractor buddy that will hook me up with a full size oven when one comes up.
  8. tried it with some 1 ounce shad heads and man there is just no room. hard to get even heat, couple of the heads ended up having a nipple on the end of the nose where it got too hot and the powder ran. im gonna have to get something bigger for my saltwater jigs.
  9. Akriverrat, I have a couple of questions about one of your jigs. Can you pleas PM me with your e-mail? I would like to ask you some questions off-line. PM sent
  10. i generally dont use white base but sounds like i should give it a try for flourecents. i used once under translucent brass and it came out a crap brown. one color as a base i do bake for a bit before adding other colors is extreme chrome, this color swallows anything i have ever put over the top of it unless i half cured it first. still get a good blend as in the lure is smooth with no seperation lines. all other colors are added before the curing process with good results.

    Wobblehead jigs

    i think they look great!
  12. anyone got a line on a blood red powder coat. i like adding to the throat area but only have pink and a maroon looking red.
  13. sweet! thanks guys ill give it a shot. i am kinda concerned because all the wiring is in the bottom of the oven and heat rises . i was just visulizing a metdown. most jigs i do are at least 4 inches long so got to get creative. might have to add a rack to the side too someday when i start doing bigger jigs for monster bottomdwellers in the salt!
  14. anyone here mount there toaster ovens upside down? i need to either operate it upside down or mount the rack somehow on the top end maybe with sheetmetal screws but the rack dosent fit anywhere except in the grooves which are on the bottom of the toaster.
  15. interesting, i checked the london market exchange and calculated it to be at .45 cents a pound right now. i have so much sheet lead that i am thinking about trading for some reloading equipment for my new marlin 1895 gs but im not sure i want to give up a hundred pounds of lead for 50.00 bucks
  16. very cool, look like they will work great.
  17. look good to me. keep it up.

    4 oz ultra minnow

heres a nice yelloweye that took a liking to one of my ultra minnows tipped with some cod. also caught some big lings and hooked into a porpise for a short time until my line broke and my line guide got tweaked. poor guy i hope he got the hook out. no halibu8t on this trip but a good one none the less.
  19. i use a copper vein i got off of ebay. i also get the spotted look even on bigger slab baits. not sure what the trick is might want to talk to the distributor.
  20. nope it dosent work, the magic marker isnt dark enough and it bleeds.

    ugliest prize

ill take the prize for the ugliest. this 40 pound wolffish took my 6 oz shad in white with a pink throat 3/0 treble with a bass skirt attatched in white and black. this fish was so ugly he didnt even come into the boat.
  22. nice looking spoons turkeylegs. looks like those would work well for silvers in prince william sound around august.
  23. i have been using clear coat powder for a little while now and am planning on using magic marker for eyes or spots before i clear coat. anyone ever do this? after i heat and paint allow the jig to cool and marker on eyes and spots then start the cure process, after 10 minutes or so dip into clear gloss powder and finish off.

    3 oz spearheads

a few spearheads with the 570 7/0 hook i plan on using for black bass or rockfish in prince william sound. was playing around with masking powder coating and wasnt real impressed with the results but not too bad. the high temerature tape pulled on the first coat pretty good leaving some potmarks. maybe i need to try and use the actual masking tape for powder coating.

    foil shad

maybe try an assist hook tied like they tie on butterfly jigs. i used the 6 oz version of the shad last year and didnt have any problem with it fouling. if you dont like the assist hook idea try and keep your strokes short or like you said you can attatch the treble at the head and your main line at the tail. probably wouldnt get too good an action that way though. i am going to fish the 4 oz version this year probably with an assist hook setup.
