  1. it would be cool to see if they can bite one in half except for the wire:) thanks andrew, got some ayc comming.....I'm loseing it the stripers and blues are gone and it don't look good for icefishing, no ice yet really and the weathers warming:(
  2. the one that spike a pike posted is the cheapest one I've seen (its what I use)...I used a 5 gallon bucket to draw a circle on 1/4 inch plywood and built a drum:)
  3. thanks, I'm learning alot from you guys and the site:) balsa go to 19 pounds:) I'm glad I asked first:) I'm going to get the heavyest balsa I can find:)
  4. thanks for the imput everyone the balsa site I seen is nationalbalsa they have a website and there from ma. looked like a great price and shipping was like 9 bucks for like 10-18 inches of 2x2 stock...bob, they do have construction balsa 4-7pounds strenth:yay:
  5. clamboli, I'm from rhode island:) we use val oil 50/50 mix with mineral spirits to seal, I'm going to try epoxy sealing a body too...the val oil don't penatrate too deep, ceder never splits when I use this sealer mix, but maple and popular have given me problems in the past also broomsticks:lol: split sometimes:)
  6. thinking of building a balsawood pikie and I've never used balsawood before...going to be used bluefishing, looking to get some killer teeth marks:) in it...I'm wondering if it will get waterloged, is it hard to seal? doe's it suck up water, I found a good price for blocks, before I order some I'm wondering how bad it will waterlog after the teeth break thru the sealer...thanks ed
  7. I sent ya a e-mail, I don't know of any 5 oz ultra minnow jigs:) barlow's tackle in TX is good
  8. I though the same about the flatheads but guys have told me that the drag from the line(braid) keeps them upright and that they flap left and right..there 40-80 feet deep where I use them, I'll never know:) I'm going to try the boxer jigs this spring, best I can find them is 3oz, I'll send you a pm...ed
  9. hawnjigs, thanks...I don't notice much difference .where I use the jigs, we fish rip tides, one place is the cape cod canel in mass. we cast up current and freespool the jigs to the bottom sometimes 20 sec count or more then try to stay in touch with the jig as the current takes it pass us, most inportant thing is getting down to the bottom:) its a mess and we lose alot of jigs whereever the eye is...in rhody I swim the jigs in the breachways...two jettys with a rip going threw them forming a rip out frount, I cast across the rip and let them drop untill I hit a rock and I'll swim it hopely bumping rocks across the rip...I like the smilling bills because the mouth gives them more action and the bean jigs if I have to get down the water collum fast:)
  10. I don't sell, but I sent you a pm:) price of lead has gone up, I pour them, the one's in the pic....some I buy and paint, sometime it's cheaper to buy 25 jigs then paint and tie them than to get the mold/hooks/lead and time
  11. I fished disney years ago when they had the food and fun deal going, I just got back from disney last nite:) I fished the water behind the disney village (downtown disney) it was more than 5 years ago and I made plans to go out it would have cost like 200 bucks back then...the guide called me 2 times asking if I still wanted to go there was a cold frount comming...it was low 40's:) I said yeh I want to go its nice out:) he picked me up amd we fished out of a pontoon boat, he fished too..he was a good guy just a fisherman that worked for disney and he figgered theyed pay him to fish:) we used cream worms that he said cream gave disney and the maker of the pontoon boats loaned them to disney so people would try them, like them and buy them...biggest bass he said he seen caught was 9 pounds behind planet hollywood...he never took off this snowsuit or:lol: gloves all day:lol: I had a 3 pound bass untie one of his knots...its hard to tie good knots with gloves( I watched him tie it and I still don't know what type it was:) it looked bad)..I ended up catching a 1 pound bass..all in all it was a good time..I enjoyed watching him try to fish in a snorkle jacket and gloves in 45 degrees...I see them fishing now and they drift shinners.
  12. hey mark, what do ya fish for?
  13. I fish for stripers and blues and use smilling bill bucktails up to 5 oz, but mostly around 2oz.. after pouring them I paint them with powder paint and bake them at 350 for 20 mins or so then tie them up with bucktail and other flytieing stuff to give them color or flash and generally I use nail polish to cover the threads:) nice and easy...ed
