Here is a foil Plunker I did in a Bluegill pattern.. Ok so its not Tigger or Rowhunter quality!.. haha.. But Im getting better with each attempt.. I dont think I could have chosen a more oddball lure blank to start foiling with, might have been much simpler to try a flat sided lure for my first.. This one was still on the rotator at photo time.. Lure is 3" length, 3/4" diam, aromatic cedar, 2 coats D2T epoxy and 1 coat Nu-Lustre55 for final finish.. -
Those are beautiful lures,especially the ones with the foiling..Ive looked everywhere for anything I could use to come up with that underlay shape,the irregular honeycomb appearance..Only thing Ive found that pattern on is sponges!..haha.. I noticed Fatfingers mentioned Leesville in his post, would that be Leesville Lake in Ohio by chance?.. Just a short 30min drive or so from my home..Great lures, enjoyed viewing your Gallery immensely too, glad I found it.. John~ -

Hi Daymon, I have 5 in my collection in decent shape,far from perfect & I think 2 more in need of repainting.. Ive made that carriage before too, its not too difficult..Just cut it out on the scroll saw.. I got a sweet cup shaped bend in the diving lip by sandwiching the lip between a wood block dished out & a wood ball I bought at the craft store..Worked perfect as the brass bends so easily.. If you get one to restore or want to clean it up: be careful,they have a really cheap nickle plated coating that buffs down to the brass real quick..Thats why this one is brass as the nickle came off like nothin--but I kinda like the buffed brass look better than the nickle.. FORGIVE ME FOR POSTING A REPAINT AS I DIDNT MAKE THIS, JUST RESTORED IT WITH A NEW FLASHY COLORED SKIN..THIS IS A STALEY-JOHNSON TWIN-MINN CIRCA 1947-49..PAINTED TO ORDER FOR A CUSTOMER.. THE COLOR IS BAGLEY'S PISTACHIO WHICH I THINK WAS USED FOR 2 YRS BETWEEN 1980-81 OR SO..THEN RETIRED, MOST LIKELY B'CUZ IT WAS FOUND TO CAUSE BLINDNESS AMONGST THE FISHES.. PROBABLY THE CRAZIEST MUSKY LURE DESIGN EVER CONCIEVED.. I HAVE 5 IN MY COLLECTION.. IF YOU NEVER SEEN ONE, CHECK OUT THE BRASS BELLY CARRIAGE IMPLEMENTED TO HOLD THE TWIN BODIES ON,,, WILD STUFF~ -

Reading these threads got me thinking..If any of you want cardboard boxes in quantity, you might try Duerr Packaging near Pittsburgh,Pa.. They make boxes for the candy industry, a variety of sizes available.. The company I work for prints the box wrappings for Duerr.. I do know they make custom sizes too or choose from their standard sizes posted on the website.. Photos on the site show plain boxes & ones with pre-printed wrapping already on them, altho that service is expensive as thats were my company comes in.. They also have cardboard boxes with the cellophane type clear plastic thin lid tops just like Lure companies use.. I dont know if those are on the site, but they do supply them, as we print the side box labels for them.. ~Print labels yourself at home, its much cheaper!~ http://www.duerrpack.com/page10.htm You'll need to read below the box photos for sizes available,most wont work for lures, but some of the standard sizes will make nice lure boxes.. And as stated they'll make custom boxes in any size.. The link I posted is just one of several pages of boxes they supply, explore the site, you may find something you can use.. John

Im sure you'll get plenty of opinions on this subject, both neg & pos.. I cant complain about eBay too much.. I think I started selling on eBay almost 2 yrs ago.. There ARE reasons to complain about that site however, the fees are always rising, they get ya coming & going too, but you can rent a Basic store there cheap enough, as I do, & the fees dont hurt you near as bad that way.. And of course Uncle Sam can see what you're up to Im sure..haha.. But I keep good records & claim all my sales at tax time anyways.. I do use ebay to make sales via direct e-mail with folks Ive dealt with regularly from my eBay selling too, & bypass the site fees altogether & can still offer them payments thru mail-ins or by using Paypal billing.. Think positive, if you go into it with the idea of losing money, then thats probably what will happen..You also need to keep in mind when you sell on eBay that they're gonna take about 10%-15% of your gold bullion each & every time you make a sale.. Yeah I flicked it on with a small stiff bristle brush, one of those disposables with the metal handle.. I thin my paints 50% to do it, works much better.. I use a toothpick to smear a few larger spots on 'em too here & there.. i did a couple Punkinseeds the same, look great, may post one shortly.. Thanks! -

Yeah they all sound great to me.. I put it on ebay today & called it a Darter pattern!.. I paint alot of things I cant come up with names on.. I make my own P'Seeds & paint 'em whatever pops into my head.. Im working on one in largemouth bass, hope to post a pic this weekend.. -
I used pearls mainly for the body background coloring over a white base, pearl:green,purple,teal,and blue.. The belly is 2 flourescents: yellow,pink, & pearl orange with some basic chevy red for throat.. What I do is put all the colors on, lay down the black bars, do the gold scale overlay, then I lightly go over each & every color a second time, including the black bars,spraying over the scales lightly.. All the paints are semi-transparent so they do little harm to the scales but the method enriches the background colors greatly.... The candy effect comes natural from spraying semi-transparent pearls over the gold scales, makes a nice reflective quality to the paints..The paints are all enamels, Boyds hobby paints..I use an Aztek 7778A airbrush, nothing fancy but it works great.. and Nu-Lustre55 epoxy to finish..I have a Paasche & Badger too but they're dust collectors in my shop!.. HATE TO ADMIT IT BUT I CHEATED!..HAHA.. I DID THE LINES WITH A PERMANENT FINE POINT SHARPIE, SEALED WITH ENAMEL CLEAR,THEN EPOXIED THE BODY.. EPOXY TENDS TO LIFT THE MARKER SO I SEAL WITH ENAMEL CLEAR FIRST.. THATS HOW I SIGN MY LURES TOO.. THANKS,, JOHN~ -
