  1. OhioLureMaker-John- I'm doing everything almost the same as you are, John, except you might try drying your lures in a low humidity area. I have a dehumidifier in the house. I made a hanger for 25 lures and bring them in the house for 48 hours. The Top Secret seems to like this. No runs or drips now. Al texastopwaterlures.com
  2. I've been using a Jet Midi Lathe now for about a year with a duplicator. After turning 800 lures, it's like driving a car, so much easier and faster than doing them by hand.

    best sealer?

Next time your wife goes to the store have her pick up a couple bottles of clear fingernail polish. It's cheap, goes on with a brush, cleanup is easy and waterproofs your wood lure. .99/ea
  4. Here's a tip that will save you a ton of money. Next time your wife goes to the store have her pick up a couple bottles of clear fingernail polish. They run .99/ea for the cheap ones. Use this to seal your bare wood lures.
  5. Here's a little tip most people don't realize. A great wood sealer is clear fingernail polish. No sanding needed. Next time your wife goes to the store have her pick some up. They run about .99 per bottle. Whatever you do....do NOT go to the checkout counter with them. Have your wife do it.
  6. Had the same problem with one set of lures. I used enamel base with acrylic paint and epoxy coating. The customer called and said he had caught two speckeled trout, then he caught a flounder ( they have sharp teeth). He said the paint on the lure started coming off in sheets. He brought it back and I refinished it in all acrylic with the epoxy coating. No more problems.
  7. Try a product called Top Secret TS100 Cear. It's a one part epoxy that has a two year shelf life. This stuff used to be top secret. They used it on tanks, aircraft carriers and aircraft radomes. Since declassification, the company that makes it changed their name to Top Secret. Being a one part epoxy, it is oxygen activated. I dip all my lures in it then just put the lid back on the jar. It runs about $29.95/qt
  8. Muskysucker- I use acrylic paint because of the simplicity of the cleanup. I can spray a set of lures one color and be spraying the next color in a few seconds. As long as the airbrush is set right and a good water filter is used on the air compressor, I have no problems. For the final clearcoat I use a one part epoxy, Top Secret, that has a shelf life of two years. It's a slow drying epoxy that takes 48 hours to completely dry to a rock hard deep clear finish that will never yellow. Only drawback is it doesn't like humidity. Living on the Texas coast we have plenty of that so I bring the lures inside the house and turn on the dehumidifier. Hope this helps!
