  1. I buy alot of used old worn tackle and have never fixed that problem with glues or resin, but i have put black cloth tape wrapped over the entire reel seat, the reel post itself, and part of the blank. I have many custom rods that have cut foam inserts that fit my hands perfectly but look strange. After i get the right feel i usually wrap breathable tennis racket tape over the whole thing for added comfort. My friends laugh at them until i let em feel what a good grip is really like then they ask me to do theirs. Good luck, you may have a great rod to experiment on.
  2. Wood, for tradition, casting, feel, and beauty !!

    2" crankbaits

Those are great. I think they would help on those really deep divers to tone down that over exagerated wobble. I also think maybe a single siwash hook set pointing up would allow for changing tails and might catch fish loke a rubber swimbait. Just some thoughts.
  4. Keep feeding her, keep catching her, don't mount her, or get her mounted.
  5. All 3 lakes have campgrounds, Pyramid is about 3/4 mile away but has good quail hunting 150 yards away, and will be less crouded and Castiac is only 20 minutes down the hill.
  6. Glow in the dark trout, with red gills, tail, and gold leaf on the sides. What else is there except red and white.

    8" and 10"

    Nice work, Those are great.
  8. At about 200 feet deep plastic crankbaits implode or crack and fill with water. At deep depths the water is cold and my flourocarbon gets brittle and breaks at my knots. Also these findings are based on Lake Tahoe fishing, Macknaw lake trout and the elevation is about 6200 feet above sea level. We use wire line to cut the water to get that deep and feel the wiggle and avoid line stretch.
  9. Sorry i don't pour but i use smelly jelly on all my soft and hard baits from bass to trout to all saltwater. For the Ca. anglers its against the law to use prescented baits in lure only waters, but you can add spray or smear scents to any artificial bait. I wonder why they call California the land of fruits and nuts ?
  10. How about mid october on a lake with stripers and largemouth, after a trout plant or two ? Silverwood, Skinner, Pyramid, Castiac. Im open for some fun but would like to show off and see everyones shad and trout baits.
  11. We had 2 perfect days of 70-75 degrees on the beach last week and i tried for 2-3 pound barred surfperch on 4 pound line and 3-1/2 inch sluggos. Unfortunatly i only caught 1- 4in. 4 oz. on my second cast and i fished for 4 more hours in 57 degree water with swimtrunks on. I did see a corbina feeding on the shore and he's about 3 months early. Now its going to rain this week and i have to wait until the toxic bacteria levels go down before i wade back in. Our surf teams all have their hepatitus shots and i would rather deal with clean snow.
  12. They look great to me. I wish i could find a long finesse minnow like yours with a paddle tail for dart type leadheads, kind of like a long skinney gambler paddle tail.
  13. Isn't silverwood too cold now?
  14. For me black is good but dark purple with a little glitter is better, the old bomber minnows gold with the orange stripe on the bottom and top worked great with a very, very slow retreive.
  15. I love the rattlesnake ! and the bomber. I tried the river2sea alot in the ocean bays without much luck. You guys gave me an idea for a crab bait made from a spoon drilled in the side of the center with a hook on the other side of the center to swim like a fouled spoon. ... Ill let you know , thanks
  16. Im crazy, but i enjoy leaving the plastic wrap on as long as possible, 1-3 years is good ! When cleaning i use soap, hot water, and a teflon scratchy pad, or any kind of pot scrubber
  17. Dear 338muskie, doesn't that one lure have better action than all your other lures ? If you tried another type of lure with your favorite color would it get bit as much as your one favorite type of lure in a different color ? I hope you have alot of fun deciding and comparing.

    Crazy Money

For $255.00 ill put my old catchers mitt out in the rain under a bush and catch real slugs for anyone !
  19. Nice video, I used to think spoons were for kids, then i learned how to 'work' one, i love it when they hit em on the drop!
  20. Im thinking of making a Brady/Patriot plug seeing as how he/they got hit so much !
  21. Regular pine works for me, But you might look at scrap wood like broomhandles, paddle handles, table legs, etc.
  22. Theres only one thing better than watching a pretty quarterback like Brady eat dirt ! Feeding it to him yourself. Defensive line for N.Y. should have been co M.V.P.
  23. For reference, i remember the Cordell Pencil Poppers came with 't' style hooks and they were probably V.M.C. 4x strong and about 3/0 -5/0
  24. We used to start with tapered table legs and a heavy rasp file and saw to make the origional A/C striper plugs up to 10 inches. we also had sucess starting with oval shaped wood (birch i think) paddles. I now use tapered chair back dowels and a table sander for all my walkers and poppers, i do drill and pound split shot for weights. I have alot of fun fooling around with different designs.
  25. My free theory is that the front section always wants to pull to one side for the path of least resistance, then your line retrieve pulls it to the other side, then the line turns the front section back to the other side. The back sections just follow the previous front section turn !! REMEMBER; You get what you pay for !!
