Was up to my usual messing around and was trying to get a perch swirl. Well didn't come out as nice as I had hoped, but here it is. what do you think? Like it hate it?

Not sure about the others. I did get a nice sample of 15 gold from a company in Pennsylvania. they sent me 2 ounces of polyester and 2 ounces of mettalic. Both are nice, I noticed the mettalic adds a bit more weight in the same amount. Might be useful to soften up baits by reducing salt while maintaining fall rate. I'll see if I can find a link

You guessed it... Another Stick Bait Thread
One Sock replied to TheBaitPhotographer's topic in Soft Plastics
SNIP> I am however told by many hand pour-ers that a hand poured stick bait (if poured with the correct ratios of salt, softener) will out-perform a GY senko any day. I'd very much like to know why this is. Any help? Thanks I can say for myself that the sticks I pour can outfish GY's because I can change the sticks depending on condition. If I want to drop shot them ..no salt, if I want to wacky rig them in deeper water with a faster fall rate. add more salt or even some mettalic flake. There is no limit to what you can come up with, with so many colors and flakes you can show the fish things they haven't seen before. adapting to your conditions is the key to consistent bass catching. too mnay times an angler sticks with a bait because it caught fish last time. then after hours of catching nothing, they blame the lack of fish activity for their skunky day. bass bite all the time period..if your not catching fish, your doing something wrong. it's just a matter of knowing what they want and how they want it. hunger and aggravation will always have fish biting, so if their not readily eating your baits, then annoy them until they do. I don't always catch fish when I go out, but I know better than to blame the fish one of my favorite things to do is make flukes that look like the local forage in the lakes, whenthe little ones go bobber fishing for pan fish and stuff, I always take a picture then see how close I can come with the custom flukes. I have had some spectacular results fishing afterwards -
have you ever tried the MF indigo? you can match the zoom perfectly, add small purple flake and you can match the riverside junebug as well. Best part is you only will need about 7 drops per 4 ounces, but as you said it's all in the green flake. Not sure what your using for flake but I have also noticed a difference depending on who you get it from, some bleed worse than others
-
both good points, multiple molds of the same design will definetly make it easier on you, especially if your using a microwave and working with flake that tends to bleed. selling baits dirt cheap just to undercut someone will only lead to minimal profits and unless wal-mart is knocking on your door to buy your baits( which they won't) you will soon find yourself losing the enjoyment you once had making baits for others in the first place. I don't think there are too many people who just woke up and said "hey, I want to manufaturer baits". Most likely it was a hobby born out of necessity, too many high price baits, not the colors you want etc etc. then when they realized that their baits catch fish just as good if not better, they decide everyone in the world would like some. hey everybody needs a dream, but if your gonna dream big, listen to what others are saying. It's a tough business but it can be done succesfully

The Junebug!!! 50 drops? or is that a typo? inquiring minds want to know :-)

wave? got a pciture of them?

I have seen too many people who make their own baits and sell them, try selling them dirt cheap. They never figure in supplies properly or most importantly "time". A friend of mine did it, we calculated he was making about 1.28 per hour of pouring for every hour he poured or something close to that. I think a lot of guys don't figure in their time because they love doing it(pouring), me i'd rather be fishing than pouring anyday Anyway, you also have to factor in quality to your baits. there are quite a few that I have seen that I would never throw because they felt like rocks or the colors were horrible or the suppliers, salt, plastic and glitter they use were far inferior to what is available, so do your research first. This is anything but an easy business to make money in. you can do it if you do it right. Word of mouth is everything, send sombody a bag of rocks and you will never get another order, send them some really good baits, and they will tell others. IMO

Dead on reply. I am a big fan of red hooks, especially on wacky rigs. I don't believe in the whole bleeding bait thing, but I do believe it resembles the flash of a gill on a bait fish. I also believe in different colors on diffeent days. I was fortunate to be able to fish almost every day for years and have had numerous days where all I could get bit on was a certain color. But hey what do I know

Loosen the drag like the others said. I also would go with a med/heavy set up. I use a 6 '6 med heavy with a shimano scorpion reel. i spool with 10 lb yozuri and never have a problem snapping lines on hooksets

Just messing around again with some mix colors. You can see how the frogs evolve. Not sure i'm done yet with the frogs. I like them but something is missing, maybe some purple flake. I was happy with the flukes, easy enough to pour and they look dynamite in the water. Might try them with an orange or white pearl belly

It is indeed possible, handpouring them it's a pain in the a$%, but once you have done it numerous times it becomes quite easy. I can salt a tip of a senko and have it stand straight up in the water. skinny worms work well for that too. i also do a lot of supersalt heads and tips so that the baits don't rip from the hook as easily while the rest of the bait stays super soft, and retains the action of unsalted baits

Ok so what applications do you use the highlight in? how much is too much etc etc, if you don't mind?
-
That's what I use(popcorn salt) and I never have to heat it up first, lots of stirring though. I would be hard pressed to use anything else. It seems to work real well
-
I play around a lot with different colors different techniques as I am sure most of you do at one point or another. If your willing to share a few tips I would appreciate anything on multi pours etc etc. One of the things i do is to preheat clear plastic(no salt) with a touch of orange flake, then reheat it until I get a real subtle orange bleed. I use in in fluke belly's and on some of the frog heads. I'm more interested in using highlight powder but have no experience using it. Any ideas? applications?. sorry if I am asking a bunch of questions but I figured I would take a shot. what about plastic paints? eyes?

Was messing around with this for a while. i didn't like all the white in them and was going to change it a bit, and then a customer called to tell me he wanted a bunch more, seems he hammered some fish on them, they looked great in the tank just jerking them around with a nose hook. I guess they did good at the lake also, But I still think there is too much white:)
