  1. What material do you guys think I should use for the tail segments? I was thinking about useing polycarbonate for the paddle tail but don't really know what to use for the tail body. I'm also thinking that the claws should be made of some boyant material like balsa so that the float above the head like a defensive crayfish.
  2. I posted that with only thinking about it for about five minutes. Now I have the thought that polycarbonate would work as rock guards. For weighting I was thinking that if you place alot of the weight in the lowest section of the abdomen(tail) that when useing a jerk pause retrieve it would cause the tail to relax then curl in again sharply like it was swimming. It would have to be a sinking bait of course to truly imitate a crayfish. Give me a day or two and I will have this thing drawn out.
  3. I was just inspired to make a crayfish swimbait. Has anyone done this before? I would think it would'nt be to hard, just multi hinge the tail and use like powder coated brass or ss to make plates to scew on to the top of the tail to protect if from rocks. What do you guys think? should I give it a whirl?
  4. hmmm.. this is interesting, I got a ulcer about a year ago and I am 17 and I was useing createx paints for my baits. I don't make cranks anymore but am starting to get into swimbait making and plan on useing createx for that. I don't remember if I was making baits at the time I got it but there could be a link. Maybe you should research some of the chemicals in the paint and see what turns up.

    crank

Very well done. Would love to have a triple trout painted like that!
  7. Very nice, love the mix of rubber and silicone.
  8. I would use auto paint. Get some good auto primer and some topcoat. I would use about 3-6 coats of clear over the paint to protect it.
  9. LOL, you can buy these at wall mart now:lol: .
  10. I just made a discovery. I used masking tape on my hypalon when glueing my handle up and when I removed it it cleaned the hypalon perfectly. So when your nice black grip gets dirt on it just dab it with tape.
  11. I will post a picture in the rod gallery soon.
  12. Hey matt, could you pm me how you do that carbon insert in the split grip. I would love to know how to do this on my next rod project.
  13. Thanks thats kinda what I figured. I just did'nt want to buy the wrong size. Looks like there biggest size is a little small. What tips do you have for reaming these?
  14. I am looking at using winding checks on the next rod I am making and I don't know what size to buy. The blank that I have has a .65 butt (heavy action) and I am making it a split grip. What I am wondering is how they size the inside of the winding check. The checks I am looking at getting are from this site http://www.shofftackle.com/winding.html and are on the bottom of the page. They list sizes like from 250 to 615. I was wondering what this means. Or if do you have to translate this into metric or inch. The matagi winding checks are the same way. Thanks.
  15. The problem with these is that you will get stoped by a warden for using illegal bait. Nice looking baits man!
  16. Make your own out of phenolic or some other composite and counter sink it.

  18. TD-Z weighs 8.6 I think. TT did'nt do a reivew of one, wish they did:( .
  19. Thanks for the sites but I had found them already. Yeah the ZPI stuff is sweet.
  20. I have two daiwa advantages and I love them but I would like to upgrade a couple things on them. The first thing is the handle, the second is the drag star and the third is the spool. And maybe the metal drag washers. Do you know where I would be able to get those things? I am planning on getting the new super tuned advantage but I still have those two. Thinking of checking mcmaster for some washers. And I am planning on getting some CF for a custom handle. Thanks.
  21. Do ya have a pic of the rod? Who built it for you?
