    Beaut paint work stingjam.pete
  2. Very Very nice Matt - I'm checking out every part of this (tail, joints, carving) and you have made it look so good/easy.pete
  3. Any colour other than black will do, but I usually use matte white.pete
  4. Ben- you must be using 'clear' or 'Opaque' colours, good solid colours, especially blue over yellow should not change that much. Not sure what sort of paint you are using , but if water based acrylic maybe you should try a few coats of each colour, if it is watered down a lot then ANY one coat will be opaque. If it is thinners based then one colour is probably eating into the other and mixing??????????????pete
  5. Brendan - If you go to 'Member submitted tutorials', there is information on using templates etc for your profiles - Then get on your computer ('Microsoft Paint') and draw up something or find a profile of a lipless you like and reduce/enlarge it to what you want, print onto paper then stick it on a piece of aluminum or plastic sheet, cut it out and you have a 'template' and away you go.pete

    Rapala copy

no Mark, I'm just discovering how hopless it is - I recently had to re coat about 10 lures so they are more waterproofed. no more, it's back to timber and foam. pete
  10. "Vodkaman" (Dave) had a formula, or theory, or something for this, so maybe do a search of his posts - I think you will find it is all more or less neutral, even D2T is pretty neutral.pete
  11. Brendan I have made these, with varying results - this is something relatively new in this country (like swim baits) so I am no expert and there are heaps of guys there who would have made the larger U.S variety of 'lipless'. I know what you are after as these 'Lake Police", like some of their other offerings is a very nice lure (IMO). I made these recently and found the secret is (like 'swim baits) is to ballast them neutral to sinking (depending on where you want them), I find a ballast bias towards the front is the go, but you need to experiment with 'your' profiles - these are 3 1/4" long. I found testing in the bath tub was not definitive, the action is so subtle, only the real world testing on the end of a rod, in a lake/pond shows the true action, which seems to be irresistible to Trout Bass, Bream and Flat Head here- very similar to some 'Rapala' actions. The top one is the real 'Killer'.Pete [/img] same lure with bevelled front: [/img]

Yeah!!!! Bananas in Pyjamas - I am trying to get the 'Tiger Stripe' the rod builders make, getting close, just have to line up the stripes.pete
  13. DSV, look at it this way, if the needle and tip is still o.k you have a spare and next time you bend a needle you won't have to wait weeks to fix it - AND - just when you think you have it all covered, check that the nozzle tip, and caps are tight and that the gaskets (if any) are good, because this will give you the same symptoms, usually when the needle is just opened and the tip is at low pressure - daba little soapy water around the caps and you may see some bubbles when you pull the trigger. pete

  17. Further to Jerry's post here is how to make one (cyclonic extractor) if you have the time. This is a very good site for anything involving wood and finishing. How to make my Dual Cyclone - Dust Extractor - Woodwork Forums There are several different guys offering plans if you google it - there is a guy in the States somewhere with a name like Smith or Brown who is quite famous for his extractors, both commercial and he also shows how to build one. I bought a small one which I attached to my sander, it works quite well in conjunction with a filter.pete
  18. Dave - there is a lot of portable evaporative coolers down at the tip and these are my go to sucker /blower/ sander motors, four speed and cost about $10 here - we call them Pelton Fans (I think) but the 'Yankees' seem to call them 'squirrel cage fans'. I know evaporative cooling would be as rare as hens teeth there but maybe they use them in some sort of air conditioning or smoke exhaust from a chip shop - they move heaps of air for very little revs/noise - the smaller ones I usually use are about 2' in diameter and are also a great paint extractor with the 4 speeds, on four they will suck your toupee right off your head. Anyway you know all about this stuff, just suggesting some sources.pete
