  1. Well said Dave - I just wonder with such large populations in Indonesia,Thailand and Philippines, how do they weed these crazies out.pete
  2. Ah!! like standing in an air conditioning duct, been in plenty of those - that must be some fan you have there, I just hope it's not too cold outside.- Can't wait to see the set up. pete

    In Tears

Not sure what a sexy shad is, not even sure what a sexy woman is any more, BUT you can get a fine line with your air brush (practice practice) , mask it, use a pinstripe brush, or drag a piece of cotton (not polyester cotton) loaded with paint down your lure, all will give a fine stripe with the cotton probably the finest.pete
  4. Jacob- I have used a can of Pelucid and it is good stuff, the same as DN c/c, with the same oxygen problems- PPC - Pelucid - I have something new though (new to me) which seems to be the same stuff but without the moisture cure, but the jury is still out on this - it's about twice the price of 'Pelucid' though. As for your D2T problem, I have had my fair share of these too. and like all are saying, mix, mix, and mix some more - I have found the biggest culprit of "fish eyeing" to be the underlying paint (w/b acrylic) which I suspect has additives such as styrates and silicones etc, anyway the sure-fire cure is to isolate it all by spraying on a clear sealer coat first and allowing it to fully dry before applying the D2T- I have been using 'clear hard shellac' for some time now, it has worked well for me, I used to use matte artists pastel sealer but found it to be a bit hit and miss.pete
  5. KF - Interesting project and something I have been thinking I should be doing, I have the fan, just need some mDF and motivation. Will the 'spray booth' be between these filter towers or in front of the exhaust tower?? There is a recent thread (past 9 months) on building a booth, this may have a few tips?? Like your little shed, looks very cosy.pete

    Final Finish

Low Cost - I don't know how many over the top priced resins and auto clears I have stacked in the shed that were next to useless for our requirements. Dippable - for me this always gave the best looking finish, no matter what you use, plus no over spray etc, just put the lid on and put it away. Not 2 Pack – cause anything any good is $$$$$ and a year down the track the gallon cans you had to buy have all gone off because you only use ten ounces a year. UV Stable – if we are paying heaps for some whiz bang coating, it should at least last the life span of your average Bass /Bream. Maybe this is the key, if a lure lasts too long the fish start to recognise it, even become friendly with it, and don't want to hurt it !!!This could be what is happening when I go fishing in the same dam all the time, are Trout that smart?? Stroft – strong but soft, like toilet tissue – soft, so it won't scratch, but strong enough to resist penetration by teeth (not digital). "New"- If it's not "new", no one will buy it!! I have this new stuff which is supposed to be all of the above except $ (it's about $280 for a pint) - but isn't that what they all say? Will let you know how this preforms, first try melted all my paint work.pete

    weird casting spoons

Diemai - we can tell you can get free s/s plate, those are beautiful, and can't see how they would not work, keep at it, the fish deserve to be caught on one of those beauties.pete
  13. John - like Dieter I too have never been into this, but am into bending wire for other things, this is my kind of tool, I can appreciate how much time you would have put in to refine your design - great work. pete
  14. I got this email from 'Balls' (Wayne) about a month ago, he was having problems posting anything and requested I post some pictures and text on how he makes eyes /rattles for his lures. As you can see they are pretty heavy duty owing to the types of fish and crocodiles they get up there (Northern Territory). Sorry for the delay, but I have been everywhere from fishing to funerals and as many would know it takes a while to get something like this together. All the lures pictured are 135mm (5-1/2

  19. Sorry for the delay in the reply 'atrophius ', 'Sonny.Barile', & Vince, been away to a funeral- Sonny.Barile - yes those are the reflections of the light bulb. It's all very fiddly making these, I (and others) posted something on this about a year back but I can't find it so I have attached a drawing from my 'Photobucket' album which might explain it a bit better - I found D2T goes off too quick and does not release the bubbles, so used an epoxy called "Flex Coat' which is 12 hour set, the same as Etex etc, I got a pin (domed 'dressmakers pin') and blue tacked (or 'super glue') an appropriate coloured sequin (with painted pupil) and a small circle of polycarbonate which I punched out with a paper punch, onto the round pin head and spiked it into a piece of cardboard (vertical), mixed up some 'flex coat' and let it settle for a while to get some of the bubbles out, I then used a wire to place drops of the epoxy onto sequin until I had a dome of epoxy- the epoxy will not run off the sequin because of the surface tension/ meniscus of the epoxy, and it is surprising how much you can add. I then let it settle for about 1/4 hour and gently heated it with a hair dryer and gas flame for good measure to remove bubbles, let it cool for 5 minutes and then flipped the cardboard over so the eyes are on the underside of the card, the epoxy will then sag a bit (gravity) - leave it for about 12 hours to set, cut the pins off and if you are lucky you get some domed eyes. Like I said it's all very fiddly but you get to make some weird eyes, if you put too much epoxy on you can get 'double domes'- These are nothing like "robotic made eyes" but if you get organised you can make a heap in one session.pete [/img]
  20. Don't use D2T you get bubbles like these, Etex of Glass Cote or similar slow set epoxy is much better. The two on left are D2T, the three on the right are 'Glass Cote'. pete http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb290/hazmail/uploads/eye2-1.jpg
  21. Jay - could be lots of things, I would give it a good clean first, is the paint too thick? the nozzle or cap could be loose or have a busted gasket? coarse paint (low quality)? or you may have the dreaded split tip if you dropped it - I would have a good look in this area with a magnifying glass, but the most likely is a partially blocked tip from dried paint - '68KingFisher' is the man on brushes, so maybe send him a P.M . Here's some more posts on brush problems, I did a search for you. pete Tackleunderground - Search Results

I was just doing some surfing for cod colours for a repaint for a guy here and came across this great idea which I have not seen over there (U.S) - they have been using this lip (bib) system for years here, works well .pete Catalogue
