  1. Milia, it has a lot to do with what you are used to, should see me on a sewing machine. Keep at it, you just have to train your hands.pete
  2. rclark12 - I know there is a great photo of a harness for a swim bait in the gallery, and for the life of me can't remember who made it, and the bait, but it's worth looking at. I have searched to page 60 in the gallery, sorry but you will have to do the rest.pete
  3. Thanks Gary, it's not over yet, it's warming up again and there are a couple of big ones (of about 30) on the move again. They sent 100 fire-fighters from here on Sunday and another 100 to relieve them today, I'm too old for that stuff. So far 1036 houses gone, and they say now, deaths will be close to 300, most caught in their cars, trying to get away. I/we really appreciate your sympathy.pete
  4. Congratulations Steve on your fabulous win - If you hadn't, I was wondering how the mods were going to handle a breakdown over the net - I bet sales have gone through the roof . pete
  5. Thanks again Dan, and yes come to think of it, the prop was a pretty thin mix, so I will get some scrap and try with a thicker brew and also try this grey primer/filler I found, and see what happens????Pete
  6. They are usually readily available on ebay (microwave motors) in various RPM ranges, I have a 2.5 - 4 - 5 and 6 rpm, 5 or 6 seem to be the best. I think a lot of guys over there buy rotisserie motors from Walmart, maybe do a search, as there has been a lot of posts on this subject.Or you could always sneak into the kitchen and remove one from the microwave oven, takes about 5 min, just roll it over and undo 2 screws and disconnect the 2 wires and you are away -then just say it's worn out, and she can buy a new one!!. They are only good for smaller lures though. pete
  7. Thanks Phil/Dan, I dipped one in Prop which was thinners based, and it softened the expanded poly, the lip slot opened up and looked like it was laughing at me. I will try spraying it, with some primer, I think I have some grey stuff stashed in the shed somewhere.pete
  8. I have just finished sanding my second Expanded Polyurethane blank, and now need to seal/prime it with something. I tried propionate on another blank, and it just melted it -I know Vince uses ETex, is anyone using anything a bit less time consuming and less TACKY, the small pieces take some holding for drying etc, and thought there may be a spray on sealer, it needs to have a pretty good solids content to fill all the small air holes. pete

Dave - that post by MTrods also looks interesting, scale it down a bit. There is a page on how they work here- Endless Tech specs pete
  10. Great link Jerry, I might have a closer look at those 'Rapala' like blanks. Thanks pete
  11. Yes Diemai, you hit the nail on the head there, most of these towns are in the middle of natural forests or pine plantations, it's the price you pay for living in 'Idyllic' locations. It's the speed of the fire that suprises and traps people, these fires travel at around 40-50kph fanned by hot, strong wind's (usually N.W) and 'spot' ahead for up to 25Km, the same thing happened in my city (Canberra - 4 killed and 606 houses lost) in 2003, it was into the city from nearby mountains 10 Km away in about 15 min, so people panic and get caught in their cars, a big percentage of the people killed yesterday were in their cars. All the tragedy is being revealed this morning, 116 dead so far, sadly, this will rise as there are a lot of people in hospital with burns - the town of Kinglake (pop 3000) lost 600 houses out of a total there of about 700 homes. Half the state looks like a bomb site and there are a couple of larger fires still going, although it is raining. Just in contrast, in the North of Australia they have had two cyclones (Hurricanes) in the same place in the past week, one town has had 1150mm of rain, the top half or Queensland is flooded, and looks like another Cyclone is heading in, about 700 Km lower down the coast. That's summer, it's all happening here.pete
  12. Yes P.B, I too had the feeling I had seen this knot somewhere, never tied it thought - as I keep saying 'there is nothing new under the sun', except maybe the 'spiv's'.pete
  13. It's been so hot her lately, yesterday from Sydney to Adelaide (across 3 states) it was in the mid 40's, Melbourne topped out at 47 C (about 117 Fh). Fires started yesterday, in Victoria and N.S.W, whole towns gone in Victoria, Marysville a small town of about 100 houses, lost all but one house, about 700 houses and 76 killed so far, they are still going, in total these fires (about 10 big ones) have burned out 650,000 acres of Victoria in about 36 hours - hasn't really got going around here YET.pete Here's a link, don't know how long it will last!!. http://au.yahoo.com/
  14. I have been looking at this here, and on other boards for a while for a while now, and was determined not to saying anything!! It's all too much for me, we have our own bunch of half wits here, self promoting on suedo fishing shows, that are more a vehicle for adds for certain brands of fishing line, reels, boats, holiday destinations etc, than they are about informing us about who's catching what, where and how. I'm glad we are still in the dark ages here and don't get "Knot Wars", well knot that I am aware of anyway. Here, at night we still sit around a tackle box, have a beer/wine, get a piece of string or rope and bull**** for hours about double granny knots, clove hitches, rolling hitches, bowlines on the bite, and the old favourite here, the 'will knot', it's more entertaining and we don't get the adds. I sincerely hope your knot wins 'Fool', you may get a years supply of boiled sweets, and the second rate line they are probably promoting, where a good knot will be essential. I don't like your chances though if Phil's knot gets on there, he probably does not remember but he showed me the 'family knot' in Clinton last year, but we were a bit under the weather and like most of these 'knot nights', I can't remember it, and I'm still alive Phil, so you may as well tell every body.pete:wink:

PH- Thank you for this, I have seen the decking here, seem's much harder, never heard of the siding, but there will be someone banging on the door selling it soon I'm sure, siding is not a big seller here though. I'm sold on this white board (whatever the brand), they are using it in boat decks a bit now, but I have my reservations about weather it will stand up to the heat. Made a lure out of it yesterday, seems to have pluses and minuses, the big minus for me is it shows sanding marks, and on a small lure a little mark is BIG, but I'll get around it, I hope ! !pete
  17. Hey Jeep, what delicate parts are you trying to cast (we are all men here)? Don't take too much notice of me, I'm in a smart A--- mood tonight, going on four months leave, and lovin it. pete
  18. Mark- in regard to those air bubbles under the eyes, the bubbles come with them when you buy the eyes - If you make your own eyes, you get to see them before you coat the lure, and you are never disappointed, it's just too late to do anything about it. pete

PBB-Sounds just like Plumbers do @ $80 an hour here. Like you say this should make 'Through wire' a breeze, stick all the ballast in, and the wire, then squash it, 3 mins later, ready to ride, no wonder Walmart can't sell D2T.Thanks .pete
  20. DT- although I am probably one of those old buggers' and I don't use any of this 'T shirt' paint;) ( mainly because I can't get it), I find all these, and some of your other posts on epoxy very interesting and informative - But what is happening with that all singing, all dancing UV stable, DN blasting clear? I'm hanging out here, knowing that if D2T is scarce there, it's soon going to be impossible to get here ( and I have one lure to coat). pete
  21. I don't know who made them, but I know where I could use them. As for the rest , sometimes I know how you feel. Ned Kelly said 'Such is life' just before they dropped him from the gallows, (he did not make lures). Come up with another one, and don't tell any bastard!!!pete

Thanks Jim, I have some 10mm sheet and thought it would be good laminated for 'through wire', should make it a breeze, glue it up, clamp it and it's done- sound's easy anyway. Thanks again. pete
  23. Form one 'codger' to another, welcome, you are never old!! With only one and a half hands you can only make 3/4 the mistakes, wade in and go for it.pete
